Alienware Orion Backpack
The Alienware Orion Backpack keeps all your Alienware gear secure and protected on the go.
The backpack's heavily-padded, subdivided main compartment easily holds up to two 17-inch notebooks. A secondary compartment contains an mp3 player pocket with headphone outlet, mouse holder, and ten other pockets from pens to CDs to plane tickets. It even features an RF-shielded cell phone pocket so your ringer never goes off at the wrong time. Four more pockets on the front sides of the backpack, including two mesh pouches, are ideal for carrying water bottles or other miscellaneous gear
The thick padded straps are ergonomically designed for comfort while the ventilated back panel helps keep you cool. Of course, the black chrome Alien head on the front of the bag lets everyone know its an Alienware
Dimensions:
20.25 Inches Tall
15.5 Inches Wide
7.5 Inches Thick
Colors:
Black mesh all over
Front compartment is a black matte plastic finish.
Alien Head logo is a solid metal button almost. Clearly very easily scratched.
Weight:
2.92 pounds
Outside
The outside of the front compartment of the Alienware Orion Backpack is covered by a soft plastic material. It has the same feel as the plastic used on the Razer Mamba mouse. The shield as I call it, is very smooth and an absolute particle magnet. Literally every small loose scrap of paper will attach itself to it. I’m constantly brushing crumbs and such off of it. Dent’s are also created easily, but come out just as easy so it’s nothing to worry about.
The nine zippers that adorn the backpack are all the same size, weight, and material. A very lightweight soda-tab sized zipper is crested with the Alien Head logo. No flex whatsoever and have yet to be scratched.
The bottom has two feet for grip when placed upright. On the left hand side, when looking at the logo side, the water bottle pouch is tucked away (took me a week to find it).
The weight distribution of this backpack is just amazing, though looking at the straps you would not think that. The shoulder straps are made of thin lightweight foam material. They are wider than the average the strap and that may well have something to do with its orthopedic feel. The back pads are where the real comfort lies. One inch thick pillows support your back along your oblique’s and Latissimus dorsi, and lower back region. Holding twenty pounds of weight in the backpack in one hand, feels like nothing when put on your back.
The phone compartment is removable. It can hold an EnV2 and Blackberry Storm snuggly. Two packs of Orbit gum as well
My only gripe is with the handle on top. It is much longer than most handles and flops around. It hits the back of my neck whenever I lean forward and is like someone slapping my neck.
First Compartment
So the outside compartment is the most lavish pocket I have seen in a while. On one side, there are ten CD pockets and a key ring. Not many people carry around CD’s anymore, let alone barenaked CD’s like that, so I’ll just put in some one hundred dollar bills as placeholders
Opposite this side, your laptop accessories are held; a writing utensil pouch, a padded zippered chamber for holding MP3 players at the top, a zippered mesh pouch at the bottom, and a very protective mouse case in the center. The pouch fits my Mamba perfectly, with just enough space for the cable. However the Mamba dock does not fit to my liking here, so I hold it in the main compartment.
Middle Compartment
The second compartment is very simple. The side closer to the shield has a space wide enough for two Asus EEpc notebooks, or five college-ruled notepads.
On the otherside of the compartment, there is a mesh pocket wide and tall enough to hold two magazines without bulging.
Main Compartment
The main compartment of the back is quite large; the size of the entire backpack, it has a single mesh/plastic filmed pocket with the text:”Checkpoint Friendly”. That’s just for frequent flyers whose bags are opened often. The sides of this pouch are fleece covered.
As a comparison for how large it actually is:
That's five one hundred page notebooks, three novels, a graphing calculator, a thirteen hundred page SAT book, a fork(i forgot to take it out), a seventy page thick passbook, a deck of cards, and some cash. My normal carryings. I'm 6'2", so the backpack is surprisingly compact.
This backpack is available from(at the time of this post):
Amazon $64.99(There is something funky going on with their pictures)
Newegg $69.99
Dell $99.99
Pictures with the M17x(I had a window to do two M17x's but I forgot)

Thanks for all the pics! I really want to get this, but I'm beginning to feal like a fanboy. I got them to throw in the two t-shirts when they botched up my tactx mouse, which I have now worn to class; but getting this bag may make me a nerd forever
But it looks so damn cool! I think you may have made me make up my mind...
-
I can see why you would feel embarrassed after wearing the 2 t-shirts to class....you could be mistaken for a fanboy.
Mind you there are worse things to be a fan of. -
I thought about the Orion but decided to buy a bag from another company, Mainly because i wanted a custom embroidery done on it. Went from pure black to pure Anime/video game nerdage
-
Does anyone has it ?
I have a M17 laptop and a Zalman ZM-NC2000 cooler. Do you think I can put both my laptop and the cooler inside the backpack and will there still be some extra space for me to put my Power brick adapter and maybe a mouse too ?
Thanks.... need answer urgent cuz I will be going to Malaysia next month... -
-

-
what are the dimensions of your cooler?
-
from website :
Dimensions 318(L) x 400(W) x 42.5(H) mm
http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=280 -
Oh yeah that will definitely fit with room to spare.
-
I have this back pack, and it is great,
it fits the laptop and my documents nicely,
It also fits in the over head storage on even the smaller airplanes -
-
Yeah the logo is quite the eye-catcher. My friends at school come up and touch because "it's so cool looking." A good and a bad thing i guess
-
If you think the logo is too flashy. check the bags at Timbuk2.com some are color customizable or come in a few different choices. plus its around the same price.
-
I'm getting this for my M15x. I'll probably also use it as a school bag. Sounds big enough!!
-
Err, the orion backpack has been renewed? I bought mine back in January and its not that cool
-
-
-
As far as I know, that model isn't in production but I'll do some scouting for ya
Edit: This is all I could find, and even here it says its not being produced by the manufacturer Buy.com
Looks like you're outta luck -
-
It looks kinda cool and old school.... but I still prefer the new one, it looks more stylish. I just ordered mine from Amazon.

While packing my trip tommorow I thought I might as well put up some pictures of just how much you can stuff in here:
Row 1
1000+ page SAT prep book, Xbox headset reciever ontop
300 page French book, Razer Imperator ontop
100 page notebook, Turtle Beach X31 Headset ontop
10.1 Asus EEpc, motorola rokr headset ontop
200+page Ernest Hemingway book
Red tape dispenser
Audio cable+calculator/psp computer connector
Shaving Cream
Toothpaste
Toothbrush
Razor
Retainer case
Wad O' Cash
Playing cards deck
TI84 Calculator
Razer Kabuto mousepad
AAA battery pack
Nalgene water bottle
6 pens
Knife
Pocket Watch
2 packs of tissues
Laptop power cable
PSP
PSP power cable
I threw in a water bottle on the side at the end. I found a hidden mesh pocket compartment on the outside
It is quite full and heavy but the weight distrubition when wearing it is very good. The final picture is to show how much it sticks out. I'm 6'2" so it doesn't look that big on me at all. I don't plan on having all this crap inside when i go out, just so I don't have to take extra baggage with me.Attached Files:

Sure need a nice bag to go with it! =D -
Updated my original post after one month of use
-
Nice bag. I actually just ordered it on saturday. Getting it tomorrow. Of course, my M17x won't be here until May 26th or so. I bought it from Alienwares website the same time I purchased my M17x. Which I canceled the laptop to add in some additional upgrades, purchasing it tomorrow. I was told I was going to be charged $100 for bag, they only charged me $45. Which I'm glad considering I had just seen the prices on amazon.
-
I am thinking of getting a pelican case since I am in the military and travel alot.
Just not sure what is the best size to get. I will see when my latop gets here next week. -
Is it just me, or are they not selling the backpack on amazon.com right now?
Amazon.com: Mobile Edge Alienware Orion Messenger - Notebook carrying case - 17.3" - black: Clothing
That's the link to the backpack (from a search and the link in the OP) but it's for the messenger bag. -
The third bag down still works for me(after searching 'alienate Orion'
-
I have both the Orion Backpack and the Messenger Bag. Love them both!
Be carefull stuffing a lot of things in any bag with the M17x. If you do, the screen will mash against the touchpad and leave marks. happened to me and had to get the screen replaced -
Huh...
Works just fine now. Thanks for ... uh ... trying it again to make sure I was nuts guys.
EDIT: Doh, I've repped bkc too much recently. If someone could cover me I'd appreciate it. -
Ha-ha thanks J. Do you yourself own a backpack or messenger bag from alienware?
-
I have a laptop backpack and a messenger bag but none are large enough for The Beast. -
. My dads transferring info from our family dinosaur to our new family rig(formerly my custom-built desktop) and it bluescreened close.to 25 times today, not exaggerating.
