I just read this in my owner manual. Is it true that AW still does burn in and benchmarks on it's systems before sending it to us?

Don't hold me to the fire on this one please... BUT.... I was told by a critical issues rep for my late Area51 m17X that the last of the burn in & benchmarking was done at the Miami facility. He said that if it is done on a new system there will be benchmark and burn in documentation included in your documents when you get the system. I had them with the original Area51 and on the replacement Area51 as well, but on the new M17X R2 the only documentation I received was the warranty info.
So take it or leave it coming from an employee of Dell but i would wager that if you don't have documentation then it's not been done.

According to the "dell order progress wiki" (or something similar to this name...), Dell does testing of all it's laptops, but I dunno what you mean exactly by "burn in" - run furmark+IBT+memtest for 20hours, or just run a few internal benchmarks to ensure stability and speed are upto tolerable levels for that model?

Our M17x (R1) was received new in November 2009 & came with a file that included a list of system components & various benchmark results.

The file was not included in my original M17x-R2 (received new in April 2010), nor the replacement M17x-R2 (received new in July 2010).

I can't remember the name of the file at the moment & the hard drive was replaced on the R1, so I would have to go through backup archives to find it.

I have mine saved in a backup of my old system's hard drives. It is actual documents saved to file on your computer. 3DMark06 is one that I know for sure, I think it was a Prime95 bench too. Just don't have it in front of me. if I can find just one of them I'll post a pic.
Nothing like that on the newer laptops thus far. I doubt they have the resources to do such a thing. Aren't the new laptops built overseas now? When I spoke to that crit. issues rep.; he said he and one crew were the last of the original crew in Florida. That once all warranties of the original Alienwares were gone, they would be too unless Dell could put them to work in another facility. Will come back with pic if I find it.

When I was going through my replacement my original computer and the first m17xr1 replacement I got had a file right on the stock desktop called My Alienware PC Information, the m17xr2 I got however didn't have it. I think it's a hit and miss now, almost like random quality control.

i'd be suprised if they used anything more than they're own delldiag too found on the resource disk (bootable)

they did warn us off furmark...
