I noticed a slight bulge on the keyboard of the laptop and decided to open it up to see what happened.

My warranty expired last year (I got the laptop in 2017).
Is it bad? Harmful? Should I send it back to Dell? What should I do?

Contact dell, they may replace it for free if you push them enough. I wouldn't use it like that.

Battery failure. Get it out of there and recycle it ASAP. Unfortunately this is becoming a pretty common scene across all brands, the battery type is to blame.

You can try and contact Dell but I seriously doubt they will do anything about it as batteries are only warrantied for a year. You can look at the part number on the battery and find a replacement on eBay or through parts-people or from Dell themselves. Your looking about $100 CAD for a new one.

What where the conditions for this to happen? Was it discharged fully a couple of times (normally the main trigger for this to happen).

Remove it, and call Alienware and complain that it is a hazard and they should take repsonsibility. Paste photos on their social media and I am sure you can get a new one out of it.

Alright so I bought a new battery on eBay and replaced the old one. It seems to be working fine for now.

Do any of y’all have suggestions or precautions I should take with the battery so it doesn’t swell like the other one?
