    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to these forums so heres a little background information about my situation. I've been researching to buy a semi portable laptop which would allow me to do some moderate to heavy gaming and school work. I narrowed down my choices to the new M15X vs Sager N8690. Since both of the suppliers for these laptops are based in the U.S, My main concerns are warranties, technical support outside of the U.S. ( I live in New Zealand )

Q1) If I were to purchase an additional "3-year Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover" would the warranty details be equivalent to someone who purchased their laptop in NZ?

Q2) If a component in my M15X was defective and under warranty, would my laptop be required to shipped back to the U.S to be repaired?

One of the sales representives said they would send the component to their repair factory in NZ (Assuming its dell), Once arrived a onsite technician would repair my laptop. ( I'm a bit skeptical about this, so if anyone has any experience or could verify this for me it would be great )

    Thanks.

P.S. If anyone has any experience dealing with Sager from NZ or outside of U.S. Could you share with me you're experience. Ty

Cant say for sure, but word of caution:

Alienware Australia has been shown to be extremely incompetent - so hopefully you have a NZ branch and wont have to deal with them

Both Sager and Dell are US based, so anything done in NZ will be less convenient for you with either model

They are both great performers so go with whichever has the details you are looking for

NBR being a US based site you'll have to hope a fellow countryman stops by. You'll have a better chance coming across one in the "Which notebook should I buy" thread.

I just would like to add that the new m15x will be handled by Dell, not alienware Australia. They both seem to still have two different offices (different companies). Alienware handles the old products and Dell handles the new m15x and m17x.

Their customer service is very good. (from my experience). They were really helpful. So, if you are considering Sager because of the bad Alienware service think twice. It is Alienware not Dell who have bad customer service.

I will be ordering the laptop from the U.S retailer to New Zealand (not Australia) , I was under the impression that should my M15X have any probelms which under warranty, they would send a any components need tfor repair to Dell. Aswell as supplying a technician if requierd aswell.

As for Sager, The reason I selected the N8690 laptop as my alternative choice, was because they're laptops were cheaper to upgrade, lighter and has a more generic design which wouldm't shout "STEAL ME" or "Look at ME, Look at ME" llike the M15X when I go to university. lol

But currently I'm unclear about their warranty policys for international purchases and whether they cover shipping etc. It's also seems too inconvenient to constantly send my laptop back and forth for repairs.
There is also no toll free line I can call so that would mean I would have to buy call cards to contact their help or technical support.
Maybe I'm wrong about this, but shipping parts like batteries does seem like it would cost quite a bit of money once you add shipping to it.

i like the sager better, the conservative styling , though modern looking. sager usually means quality. sager is a company that you don,t here about attorney generals go after, unlike dell that has its scrapes with the law..its disappointing that dell has slumped this low on their business actions,,,but a lot of that happens today when companys are public..the greed today comes at all costs.

Yeah, I've read alot about sager. It was actually my main pick. I was able to upgrade to a i920 and have a 280m gfx card while being around the same price of the M15X with the same specs.

But all in all the main factors that will determine what I'll buy now is the convenience of warranty cover and support for New Zealand. I think by the looks of it M15X will probably be the main choice now. Nothings worst then spending all that money and risk it breaking with no way to repair.
