Sadly the fact remains that you're relying on existing "Alienware technical support" to provide help, and it's well established that most members here know more about the Alienware specs & range than they do. Customers aren't satisfied, because the sales & tech teams barely know the products at all.

The amount of things I've heard come out of a Dell tech support's mouth... I'm surprised they even managed to find a job which USES computers, let alone selling or troubleshooting them.

Personally, I appreciate the extra effort, and it's definitely something that might help push me towards an Alienware in the future. And the hint of a lower price doesn't hurt either. ;)

Unfortunately for you guys, that won't be this upgrade cycle. But, again, glad to have you here, and welcome.

Kinda agree, because 8 out of 20 times that I contact the tech support last year, 8 of them doesnt know that Alienware is a High performance gaming laptop, and there method of figure and fixing the problem is purely Dell Laptop, while 3 of that 8 doesnt know that Alienware's GPU run hot, and not trusting the customer when they telling truth like the CPU is near overheat and needing a tech support to come to repaste the CPU/GPU, this is what I am truly frustrated on the service some Dell support are providing.

Anyway, still it is good that more and more representative from Dell/Alienware are coming up for feedback :)

Hey Allan @ Alienware I know what I m about to say doesn't has nothing to do with the post content and I apollogyze right now.

Since you are sales assistance from alienware of US and Canada, which are the biggests consumers and sellers countrys, including US, alienware home country I need to ask you why isn't there a website of Alienware to my home country Portugal, I know I m maybe asking for personal company stuff but, there is Spain's alienware website and it doesn't makes sense if you sell there and not here.

I know people that would buy alienware in Portugal in an instance if you sell it here they way you sell in other countrys, you tryed once but it was on retaillers stores and nobody enjoyed because we couldn't customize it.

Once again I apollogyze for the inconvenience of asking such thing in such post but I have this question for a long time.

I currently live in Costa Rica and we go through the same problem. We don’t have an Alienware website, of course we are a smaller country than Portugal. The answer goes back to Marketing and the studies they do with the brand. Also, country regulations and taxes that might make it less attractive for the company to do business in certain countries. That’s what might be holding back Alienware from promoting and selling in Portugal. I will do a deeper search to see if I can find more concrete answer.
We have sold systems to customers overseas but they ship them to curriers based on the US and the customer is responsible for their shipping rates and import tax from their respective country.

Thank You guys for the welcoming, I am here to represent Alienware, more specific in the sales Area. I have been in the company for many years since it was Alienware before DELL. I have worked my way up from Level 1 on the phone troubleshooting computers to Sr Sales Coach today. I will be happy to answer any question related to sales since its my area now and guide people in the right direction as far as new purchases, returns, availability of stock, etc.
Also this is a good opportunity for anyone who wants to take advantage of the technical explanation we can provide you.

Hi Allan and welcome to NBR - it's great to have yet another representative on board looking out for us all!

I have a question for you, one that I am hoping with all your experience you will be able to answer, with a view to helping out another forum member who is experiencing some problems.

I was hoping that you could give a definitive answer to the following question:

"Does an M18x, when configured with a SINGLE Nvidia 560m gpu, have the ability to manually switch over to the Integrated HD3000 Graphics via a Fn & F7 switch call?" - I know that a reboot is required, as Optimus is not supported for "on the fly" graphics switching, but the member I speak of is getting told (and I presume its by some unknowledgable tech) that his configuration will NOT be able to switch AT ALL to the iGFX (HD3000) that his cpu offers.

Its my simple understanding that he should be able to do that, even though he has a single 560m, via Fn & F7 and a reboot.

Hoping you can pass a senior comment on the subject and hopefully help out to get the official stance on this.

Again, welcome on board and look forward to your reply when you can!

Steviejones133 I was told by one of our level 3s that you asked them this question and they will be giving you the answer in the support thread. I would be more than happy to investigate further more but they dont want me to cross post or change the main idea of this thread. Email me if they do not respond to your inquiry in a timely manner and then I will step up to investigate your answer.

Allan - does this mean the M18x.R2 is about to launch? If so, are you permitted to let us know on details on launch date, specs and anticipated pricing?

That's actually not a bad thing. This has extended the service life of the M17x R3 and M18x and will help them retain their value. Ivy Bridge doesn't really offer a lot to Sandy Bridge owners anyhow, so sticking with the same CPU and chipset should help keep prices more affordable. Maybe Dell/Alienware plan to let their competitors be the guinea pigs on latent defects this time around and make sure there are no last minute Intel recalls, LOL. The new GPU offerings are also not earthshattering upgrades. There seems to be no compelling reason for an existing M17x R3 or M18x R1 owner to spend money on a system upgrade.

Allan it looks like its the end of life for the MX11, my wife loves her MX11 R2 and has a 3 year accidental coverage on it, what happens if something happens to it, will parts be available or will she be forced to go to an M14x or XPS?

I am also curious about the blu ray drive offered for the M14x, I currently own a M14x for myself and the only lacking feature for me is the blu ray drive. Is that something a customer should look into ordering/upgrading from dell since the size of the drive makes it extremely hard to find an outside source for an upgrade to the blu ray in 2.5.

    Not so fast ;)

They mention PCIe 3.0 and mSATA

While these are not in the current design, this tells me that what is likely happening is we will have a new motherboard with an intel 70 series chipset just using the SB CPUs for now since IB is not out yet. remember, the chipset is already out, just not the CPUs yet ;)

Certainly will save them time once they are allowed to offer IB CPUs

update: So I researched the GTX 675m some more and what a complete load of BS from nvidia....they are up the same old rebranding crap. It is IDENTICAL to a GTX 580m (although like $350 cheaper for SLI so that is something....) same core, same clocks, same card - I feel much better now about my brand new GTX 580m SLI :D (I mean GTX 675m SLI?)

Yeah, I guess there a few good things but nothing compared to the plethora of "wishes" on the "What users want in the M18x R2" thread.....and I couldnt agree more....Nvidia doing the same ole same ole "stick a new name on it" tactic....good job they arent more expensive!

Allan, I see that there is a triple hard drive option now. Is there a 3rd drive bay? I noticed that you can configure 3 drives and still also get a DVD drive so it is not just a drive caddy in the ODD bay

Or is it just a 256GB mSATA drive for the 3rd drive?

    Allan,

What are the chances of getting this promotion/your services across the water here In the UK? - I ask as there are many members on NBR who would dearly love to buy but we have huge price tags over here compared to US prices.

I started this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-system-accessories-please-contribute-76.html many moons ago to try and help out to make these great systems more affordable to the UK market - it has helped quite a few people out too!

What we could REALLY do with is something like this for us guys too......

Any chance you can help out?

I don't really get all the processor hype. I mean, I do, obviously, but in the world of gaming, what's the point? My current desktop has an aged Wolfdale E8500 and a GeForce GTX 570 and it plays everything new that I've thrown at it.

I'd LOVE an Alienware. One day I'll buy one, but man, they're pricey. It's nice to see some more customer service presence on here from Alienware, because honestly that's my biggest hang up with purchasing one. I built my desktop, and will rip into a system on my own all day except when it's something that costs so much money. I travel extensively and need my hardware to be rock solid so if I said that a fear of lacking customer support wasn't one of my most valid concerns, I'd be lying.

You can only do RAID using SSD SATA up to 3 Hard drives and include the mSATA as well.
Or single 2.5 SATA with the mSATA

This all we have on the configurator, of couse different options on sizes for the drives.
The optical drive also fits in the system, its completely separate from these components.

When sending me an inquiry. This is to speed up the response from my end.

    Please include the following:
    Full Name
    Shipping address
    Phone number

Configuration of the system you would like.
    Upgrade you are looking for.
Warranty upgrade you would like (Include Service Tag)

    Thank you for your colaborartion!

From your lack of response to my email and question, I take it that Dell isn't interested in giving people in Europe a better deal? - what a surprise......typical "sales guy" - only interested in "self help" ......when are Dell gonna realise that there actually are people OUTSIDE of the US and Canada that buy these systems....we want the same deals too ya' know....

To see if there might be a currier in the US that will ship to UK so we can sell you the system in the US and ship it out to the currier. Shipping and country tax charges of course would be on the customer. This is a method we use to ship to here, Costa Rica. Let me dig in a little more and will reply ASAP.

I will say that I have been in contact with Allan and he has impressed me with his rapid replies and willingness to assist. I'm sure he got totally crushed with quote requests, among other things, but his speed of replying has impressed me so far. Makes me even more likely to buy an Alienware now. :D

Just ordered a laptop from Allan over the phone. I had cancelled my order a few days ago for the M17x R3 from another rep because I wanted the updated R4 model and luckily saw this thread. Ended up getting a better deal through Allan than through the normal rep! :)

Thanks Allan - apologies if I came across as impatient - just that I would like to source a good deal for guys in EMEA Territory too......we ALL love a bargain, don't we? ;)

Thanks for looking into it for me/us. Will look forward to hearing any news you may have, at your leisure.

got my quote yesterday but sadly the components I am looking for not been released yet

on the other side Allan give me a super discount so I know this is the way to go whenever they get the components in line :)

Note: the discount is not going to show in your quote is only going to apply if you actually purchase the laptop thanks Allan and sorry for the confusion

Good news Speedy. Looks like this could be a really great source / avenue for buying at a good price as opposed to buying "direct" for US & Canada residents.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something can be worked out for us guys too...along the same lines as this thread would be great for EMEA customers!
