    AWEFUL!

I called 1-800-Alienware (which is their Sales phone number...) Then I explain what I want to the guy.. A Smart bay Hard Drive. He then transfer me to the sales department (?!?!?)...

Then I talk to this girl... for about 10mins.. she wants to know my account #. I give it to her and go figure... it's not the good one! (Altho this account # is printed on the card I received in my little alienware binder when i bought my m15x. Being impossible to track me down in their system - they dont even have my name recorded- she ask me what I want to buy.. " I want to buy a Smart Bay Hard Drive" ... She doesnt know what is it. "I want a hard-drive that is in the Smart Bay slot, which is one of the feature of Alienware Laptop". Still no clue is that... I try spelling it to her, I explain it to her - it's on the left hand side of the notebook, you can swap a DVD player, Hard Drive or another Battery" ... Still no clue... so she then puts me on hold for 15mins and tells me she will call me back...

    SERIOUSLY!

I'm not excepting any answer but damn it feels good! Paying 4K for a laptop that you can't even upgrade cause the sale dep have no clue what is IN the laptop.

Thank you for your time... :)

P.S. Anyone ordered a smart bay hard drive sucessfully?

I believe when I did it I ordered it through the tech support, not the sales.

Also I got lucky and a former roswell answered my call :D.

M15x was released about early 2008. Officially seen in Nov 2007 at NYC, but only hit customers in 2008. It's coming to about two years.

maybe I am thinking of a different model then

friends of mine in classes in fall 2006 had AW laptops that I could have sworn were m15x's... (smallish, glossy plastic lid with skullcap, whitish or silver)

Probably the M5550. Those were overheating little buggers.

I've only seen one on my campus, and it was being used by a female student in the English department.

I don't think so, it was definitely a solid color across the whole like like the m15x was

Hmm, that's strange. I don't know if there were solid colors for the M5500/M5550, but 2006 would be the right time frame for those models.

Scook's right, I got my m5550 in Spring 2007 when Vista just started coming out. It was already running with Windows XP in the Fall previous year. So, yeah, almost 3 1/2 years! I miss that thing though.

Agreed, Call AW tech support, perhaps you can buy one that way.

For what we pay... they could at least afford supporting us for a few years after our purchase.
