SO wrong dude....you are ignoring blu ray, hdd, AND screen

that link you showed, with the same stuff comes out to $2674. SO you are paying $374 for the 280m's over 260m's...so how is that any different than other configs through dell?

I see. I do not the know ins and outs of getting discounts and haggling with dell haha

But the MicroCenter offer is great if you are just waiting for the 4870's (if they even exist)

edit: I find this to be a nice deal, but I think if you can do without blu-ray than the Sam's club deal still wins assuming they can ship it reasonably quick

i haven't worked there, i work for FCPS in the IT field. I tend to go by microcenter when i'm bored to look around, almost always go there when i need to get something as they usually have most things in stock although they don't have the headsets i'm wanting to get.

well before your special dell discount, here is what the rest of us can get (if you are a student)

    GTX280m SLI
    Q9000
    Blu-Ray
    1920x1200
    250 GB HDD (base)

From Dell with no discounts: $2949
    From Dell with Sleey0's code: $2599 - $181.93 = $2417.07
From Dell with Sleey0's code and EPP: $2235.14

    All prices are USD

The code from Sleey0 gets you a cheaper base price, and then 7% off of that config. The EPP is an additional 7% off that same config. So they compound to a 14% discount on an already discounted setup. These exclude taxes and shipping. Need I say more? haha

update: Aparently I may have gotten my sums and discounts wrong here, here are the discount codes and the link to the discounted configuration for you to check yourselves:

But this is great for the rest of you!

girlfriend (pretty much wife) and parents

In all fairness, I do owe my parents for a $24k car and 4 years of college (about $60k). They frown on me spending all my money on (ultimately) meaningless things haha

Trust me, if I can conjure up a buyer for my whitebook at a good price (around 1700-1800 with x9100), I will be all over this!

edit: but can the student and employee discounts stack? or never exceed 7%? also what about their military discount? I am a DOD civilian employee and got a .mil email can I use that for further discount?!

The employee and student discount is the same thing. They both go order through EPP they just use different urls to get there. You can ask Rob about the military discount but I think that is a special portal that only military personel have access to. So if you don't know it you don't have access then. You at least need to know someone in the military. That doesn't stack with EPP either since you're buying it through aafes.com.

Even people who use cash for everything still need credit. Try buying a house with no credit. There are even jobs out there that run credit checks before hiring.

E-Value code produces a savings of $350. Upgrading to the specs of the Microcenter model with GTX 280M in SLI and you get a cost of $2674.

There's only one 7% discount from EPP, not two totaling 14% so the discounted price is $2486.82 before tax/S&H or $2382.30 with DPA.

So the e-value code upgrades the Microcenter model to GTX 280M SLI for $82.31.

    not to shabby

so I went by microcenter on the way home and looked up the employee price for the m17x as described on first page, $2128.93

Worth it or no? (im leaning towards worth it) the ONLY thing this doesnt have is gtx 280m SLI, but frankly, 260m's oughta do just fine

    $2128.93 is a great price.

If you could get GTX 260M SLI on that E-value code it would be $2374 configured or $2136.60 after EPP and DPA.

    Plus you save on shipping.

Do they sell the silver chassis in the stores?

So I have narrowed down to 3 configs/prices I am considering:

    Dell (directly)
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
    4GB DDR3-1066
    WUXGA 17" 1920x1200
    Dual Nvidia GTX280m SLI
    250 GB 7,200rpm HDD
    Slot Load Blu-Ray Reader
$2568.37 (includes tax and S&H - using EPP and the coupon code)

    MicroCenter (online only)
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
    4GB DDR3-1066
    WUXGA 17" 1920x1200
    Dual Nvidia GTX260m SLI
    500 GB 7,200rpm HDD
    Slot Load Blu-Ray Reader
$2299.99 (if I can not get EP on it)
$2128.93 (if I can get EP on it)
    Shipping = $20

    Sam's Club
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
    4GB DDR3-1066
    WUXGA 17" 1920x1200
    Dual Nvidia GTX260m SLI
    500 GB 7,200rpm HDD
    Slot Load DVD Combo Drive
    $2118 (includes shipping)

So far my thoughts have been, if I can get EP on microcenter, then get that one, if not, get the Dell one. I really prefer having the Blu Ray drive otherwise the Sam's Club one would be much more tempting (I feel that upgrading the Blu Ray myself would be a big PITA on this model). Very open to any thoughts or suggestions! Getting the system quickly is also a priority.

I don't know, but the Dell price includes it already.

I am heavily leaning towards the dell with dual 280m's as this will allow me to not have to regret anything in say...a week. Lol

It is hardly a price I can complain about given what I will get and I will have both a qx9300 and an x9100 waiting for it I think, depending on what I sell with my whitebook (if I can sell :(). Another reason I am leaning towards Dell is to try to haggle them some, maybe get shipping free and/or the Orion Backpack if I can. And who doesn't like a personalized name plate?!

How exactly could you haggle a dell employee to drop the price for you, wouldn't that be against some sort of policy they have?

They are usually pretty flexible and would rather drop the price than lose the sale. Trust me, I was surprised when I heard about this too haha

From what I have read on this forum so far anyway....I will update you all with my results
