I love my tactx mouse. But be aware the cable is like 6 feet long.... way too long for a laptop.

If you just wrap the cable up the sheeth with fray and start to damage the mouse cable.

I cut my cable down to 20 inchs and then re-soldered the connector inside the mouse. Works great and since the mouse is never more than 20 inches from the computer I got rid of some un-needed bulk.

Yeah the cable is quite long and made of polyester or something. It's a pretty nice mouse though and is definitely worth $36.

    Isn't it a rebranded G9X?

If so, it's an excellent mouse and for 36$? Go for it!

    Edit:

Not a big deal. The mouse is extremely comfortable and it has one of my favourite features for productivity - an auto-scroll wheel (one quick spin = several spins) - This feature is excellent for digging through libraries of files (like I do everyday). I hope it's the same for the TactX.

    ---

    @Kalashnikov5
You should of watched reviews on YT instead of asking since there's limited quantities and only reveal the location after you've made a purchase :p

    It's a steal-price for a gaming mouse - I don't blame others for rushing to the deal ;)

I picked one up last time it was on sale. Found it was a bit small for my paw and made it feel cramped. No complaints from the person I gave it to though :)

I like the scroll wheel toggle, on the bottom, that lets ya change it from a lose feel to a more controlled feel.

TactX is a good and sturdy mouse and it looks good. I am using it as a "desktop" mouse with my m14x. I also own G700 and if you are into heavy weight precision gaming, Kalashnikov5, you may want to consider a wireless mouse. Cable vs no cable = all the difference.

the mouse's sensor distance between the surface. I'm sure now days nobody wanna lift off their mouse any more , with those insane dpi you don't need to lift off your mouse.

    Thanks.
I had a bad experience with a laser mouse once, I bought a gaming mouse and the lift off distance was literally about 2cm. I couldn't use it as I was used to low sensitivity and I had to lift off the mouse to make another turn, which would just mess things up.

I bought a R.A.T. 5 today and it is excellent, extremely low lift off ditance yet very high DPI and adjustability.

Interesting. the Tactx mouse is currently on sale for $39.99 on Dell.ca. Think I may buy one and see how it is. Definitely seems like a good price.

Not a bad price, here in the UK we have to pay £60GBP ($94USD or $96.3CAD) for the TactX mouse from the euro.dell store

It's weird, my Tactx mouse arrived today. First impression is I really like it, but I'm having some software issues. I installed the software on the disc, and the mouse shows up in command center so I can change its colors, however there is no way to change any of the actual mouse settings. I reinstalled with they keyboard software selected as well, its own control panel opened up right away, but never anything for the mouse.

Pretty much when I try to install the mouse CI it instantly says its finished installing. Weird. Definitely wanna start customizing the buttons. Do I maybe need to uninstall command center or something?

Check the start menu for the "Mouse CI"

Mine installed right away like that too. I suggest you also check out the user manual. It gives you some info how to change your profiles and such.

But, to change from the 3 profiles you need to hold down the button on the bottom and using the DPI switch you can change profiles.
The default settings are pretty perfect, but you can change the dpi settings to be how ever you want them.
The gaming profile has 5 levels of dpi adjustments, the other 2 profiles I think only have 3 each.

Ah I found out what the issue is. Apparently you can't use the Tactx mouse software with Logitech setpoint software. Bummer. Almost a deal breaker for me. I just uninstalled Setpoint and now the CI installed fine. I have a Logitech Performance MX as my main mouse though, and a Logitech keyboard so this is pretty sad discovery haha. One forum I found on google said, uninstall Setpoint, install the Tactx mouse software, setup all your profiles than uninstall the Tactx mouse CI and reinstall Setpoint and it remembers all your profiles. A bit of a hassle but if it works I may hang on to this mouse. Don't wanna have to ship it back to Dell.

    Excellent solution!

Any chance of a write up or pix? I would love to do this but don't want to destroy the mouse in the process. :D
I'm not even sure how to disassemble it.

    Well its actually pretty simple.
    First things first.
Turn over the mouse, using a small phillips screwdriver you will need to poke holes into the teflon pads.

You can see there are 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom, and one on the triangle pad.
Once you have those removed the mouse will pull apart. You do not need to remove the pads, just poke some holes in them From here you need to remove the scroll wheel. Be carefull and remember where each part goes on the stroll wheel.

The mouse cable has a plug on the end that just goes into the board. Unplug it. Now cut the plug off, but make sure you have ample wire sticking out so you can splice in the shorter wires.

There is a plastic "grommet" thing that holds the cable into the front of the mouse. Gently slide this grommet twards the USB plug untill you have your desired length.

Now trim the wire, tie a knot in the wire. Strip off some of the fabric covering, then strip each of the little wires in there. Connect the plug wires to the cut down half, solder them backtogether and shrink wrap it. Now you can put it back together.

Or you could simply roll up the excess cable and tie it....that is what I would do..no risk of damage

Actually, rolling up the cable and tieing it back does damage it.
The cloth covering on the tactx mouse with start to split on the sharp bends when you wrap it up. Then the rubber cable with-in starts to poke out. This problem can not be reversed by unrolling it and pulling it straight.

I originally had my cable like that, but that happened so I just trimmed it.

Personally I'm very happy using the tactx mouse. It has a nice sturdy feel and good weight. You can assign profiles and change sensitivity with the click of a button.
With regards to the extra long cable, I'd say in most circumstances the buttons would be more likely to wear out before cable fatigue from being tied.
With my setup I let it free ball (for lack of a better word) and manage to mask it up behind my desk.

sorry had to bring this up, I just got mine for $60.
Opinion: Best. Mouse. Ever. (if you already invested on any alienware computers)

The mouse is a bit smaller than I imagine it would be, I'm using this to replace my 4 years old Logitech MX518 which is pretty large and fits my hand perfectly. The cable isn't as long as you guys implied: P_20130906_235029.jpg . Definitely not short, but I think I don't have to fold it.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied right now, nice mouse for $60. But how durable is this mouse? I heard the cable isn't very durable (I do not fold it however).
I'm very impressed with my MX518 that still performs very well after 4 years long, I have to admit Logitech does makes durable mouse. But this Alienware Tactx is also Logitech-based, yes? So it should be as durable as MX518, yes?

I have had mine for a few years now and it still mostly works. sometimes it will disconnect then reconnet... but I think its the hub its plugged into more than the mouse itself.

As for the cable, you can actually buy new ones on ebay for pretty cheap.

I bought the Tactx mouse with my AW18. I love the mouse. I just wish they had a wireless version. The cable is extremely long and sometimes gets in the way while gaming and laptop use.

I really like my TactX mouse a lot. It is an awesome mouse and I can say it is the best wired mouse I have ever owned. It would be really nice to have a wireless version of it. I really like my wireless Logitech G700 and it is shaped very similar to the TactX mouse. It has fewer buttons, but I don't use most of the extra buttons on the G700 anyway.

Been rocking the Steelseries Sensei for a good 2 years and have to say it's so much nicer than my old TactX..

    Better fit in the hand
    Glides with ease
    better trigger mechanism
    Durable cable and mouse
easy macro changes for SC2 and LOL (I really struggled to switch the mouse macro on the TactX)

The other night I found a mouse I like better than my tactx, the cooler master sentinel 2.
So many more features and fits my giant hands better. I still use my tactx, but am transitioning to the cooler master mouse and my new cooler master quick fire rapid keyboard.

I just started using the Logitech G700 and love all the buttons...I was on the G9x previously, but actually didn't have enough buttons since I had to go in the tool to change dpi on the fly...Helps with productivity/work a lot to tab around browers with a click, reload a page, close windows, top/down on a page, etc...Can't have too many buttons IMO. No experience with TactX, but Logitech has great support/warranty.

So it has been 3 days since I've been using TactX. I know this thing is kinda old and there are probably better mouse for the same price range by now, but I can already tell this mouse is awesome, I should have bought this 3 years ago. Soft and nice to hold, DPI level indicator, dual-mode scroll that just works, the looks that mimics my M15x, and now knowing that it is durable as well, I couldn't be happier :D

The mouse is small though, don't you guys think? My little finger hurts the first time trying it.

The mouse works with any system, but to change colors there is a snap-in module in AlienFX that is used for that purpose. I have never tried using it on a non-Alienware system to see if there is a way to change colors, but there could be. The mouse is made by Logitech, so there might be something in a downloadable software package for non-Alienware systems.

    Hi all,

When I bought my Alienware 18 I bought the tactx mouse with it. I know it does DPI switching but is there any software for it so I can choose the DPI on each setting etc???

My System is Windows 8.1 with the latest command centre 3.5. I can change the lights in CC but nothing else? My Corsair M65 has some good software be nice if the Alienware mouse did 2.

    Thanks all

Is there a small mouse anyone can recommend?
I'd like to use a mouse using the bottom right section of my AW 17 as the mousepad if that's possible.
