Hi there, first post so apologies if this has been covered (I did search!)

I've been using the ThermoFan utility to monitor temperature and have found that it contradicts with other monitoring software.

    ThermoFan: 63
    SpeedFan: 51
    HWMonitor: 51
    NHC: 51

This is a rough average over 10 minutes, but all the others seem to read about 12 degrees lower than the Alienware app. Logically I would say the three that agree are correct but has anyone else got any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Other three should be correct. Personally I trust HWmonitor the most

    Hey Method, Welcome dude!

I use ThermoFan to check my system temps. I'm sorry but I cant honestly tell you if the recordings are accurate.

I use it because it was pre-installed on the system and if the recordings are correct, it works well.

I look at it this way.. Just as long as when I've finished playing a game my VGA Skin Temp is not close to 100c than that's fine with me.
The highest vga skin temp recording I've had in ThermoFan was 78C..
Also since the x34 bios update, the bios description stays true to itself. In stealth mode depending on what I am doing the CPU temps hover around 45c - 52c. Any higher the fan kicks in. But it rarely ever needs to. :D

(Am I right in saying the vga skin temp is the GPU die temp? And the vga internal temp is the heat surrounding the GPU? That to me makes the most sense, but I am not too sure.)

wouldn't the other way 'round make more sense?

I guess Whizzo. It's just the terminology used. "skin" to me means gpu die. But Internal, thinking about it, could mean the same thing. As the Internal temp always reads lower than the skin temp, so... you could be right. :D

I'm sure since I upgraded the BIOS to 34 its "reading" about 10 degrees higher in idle. Maybe the version of Thermofan I have doens't like the new BIOS revision.

There is a newer version. It was released around the same time as the x34 bios. Check the My Hive section in your account. Should be there available for download in the same list where you find the drivers and bios updates for your system.

Thanks for that, this one shows the correct temp now. Might be why some people thought they were getting higher temps with x34.

Is there a way to monitor your system temps and fan power besides using AW's thermo fan. It seems that they automatically adjusted fan speed based on thermo fans readings.

they dont use thermo fan to adjust fan speeds. they use the bios. once it hits a certain temp the fans will kick up. thermo fan just tells you what the rpm and temps are. you are suppose to be able to control fan speed using thermo fan but AW seems to have disabled the feature. maybe one day they will give us this feature.

you can use RivaTuner, Everest, Notebook Hardware Control, etc

Only with the right version though, otherwise it isn't.
