I recently ordered two Alienware laptops 14 and 17 and see there is a new "trade up" program where you can send in your xbox, wii or other devices for $200 credit off your new purchase. I have a xbox and a wii that I would like to send in.
As I was going through the process, I noticed this is only available in the US?
Does anyone know if this is the case? I've chatted with a few agents and they didn't seem to know. Seems a bit ridiculous if this isn't available in Canada, I would be willing to ship my console to the states.

Seems to be available in the UK as well.... whoever is in charge of these marketing promotions needs to seriously think this out before they launch it and certain people can't take advantage of it because of where they live. Is Dell/Alienware not a worldwide company. If they can launch that in the US and in the UK theres no reason for Canada not to be able to take part unless its some stupid restriction with Dell Canada
-
Yeah I know. I feel like we live on a different planet. Half the coupon codes I find don't work on the Canadian Dell site, or a deal "isn't applicable in Canada". The Canadian Dell Outlet site selection is awful compared to the US one, and we can't do the trade up program either. Why so different?

I spoke with Dell about the Alienware stock on outlet. Dell Canada sells all their returned goods to a 3rd party who re-sells them and no where on the internet do they advertise them to purchase

Often multi-national company operations are run like a totally separate company or a franchise, with a separate leadership hierarchy. Perhaps that is determined by government regulations or mandate to some extent. I suspect that Dell USA may have limited influence over Dell Canada. It may be that the head honchos in charge at Dell Canada decided they were not going to participate in that program. We are all familiar with the fine print "Offer valid at participating [insert business name] locations only." That may be the case here. It is understandable to be bummed out about it if you were interested in taking advantage of the offer.
This kind of difference between countries might change in some ways with Mr. Dell back in the driver's seat and it could end up looking more like one face of Dell everywhere. That would be nice, but we will need to wait and see. -
You have to remember that, because of Quebec and several other odd restrictions on 'used' and 'refurbished' goods, many companies won't offer them or accept them inside Canada.
This goes for Trade Ins too. Trade In deals are very often worse or nonexistant for us compared to our American counterparts. -

Seems like the UK trade in program does not include consoles - just pre-owned Dell equipment. $200 off for trading in a Wii seems pretty nice.......

$200 off for a Wii would be amazing. It's the most unused/unwanted piece of electronics in my home. My wife likes it, but rarely uses it. I hate it and so did the kids. Most of the time it slips my mind that we own one.
-
Wow, I thought they'd be doing it based on value, but no, the Nintendo Wii will trade in for the full $200.
That's pretty crazy. You could buy a new Wii and trade it in for a $50-80 profit. -

Wow, that is crazy. Go grab one off Fleabay for even less and trade it in......

Hell, an M11x R1 with the Pentium (not the i3/i5), 2gb RAM, no HDD/SSD trades in for $240.
