I mean seriously, it cant be me... right?
I just did vikas whole guide, from beginning to end, I did it to the "T". And still it freezes up
It couldnt be my hard drive right? seems wierd that it would be, I have no clue as to why it freezes up though.
Ive tried a vozen drivers in total, I have reinstalled 64 bit 4 times now, and the same problem every time. Freeze.
Give me a break, what is the problem, that it just wont work? any ideas? Could it be Vista business 64?

Don't shoot me if you tried these before...
1. Memtest
2. HDD Tune -
I've been trying to look into this for the past week and I haven't found any particular connection to 64-bit Vista and the issues you've been experiencing with it.
But yeah, I agree with Wishmaker. Download Memtest86+ and HDD Tune and run a test with both.
Edit: Wait a minute, your copy of Vista Business x64 does have SP1 included, right? -
)
I need to understand what is going on, instead of shooting so many questions on you. Better get in a IM, tomorrow.... so sleepy now but still in offish. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
yes i have sp1.
Now that I got HDD Tune, what thing in there will help me? -
The error scan.
-
Uninstall all the softwares, CC & OSD all of them. Look for any unresolved driver in device manager. for now... -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I never even installed the CC, I am running the error test (not the quick one) and I will let you know when it is done.
Also I already uninstalled the driver, it would freeze as soon as i booted up into windows. I had to boot up into safe mode in order to uninstall the driver. -
I know the 9800 GT is the same as the 8800M GTX, but perhaps something in the hardware is different to make it react differently to the drivers that were provided by findvikas.
If installing those drivers causes his computer to freeze up, it must be the drivers that he's installing. I think the majority of us who have successfully installed Vista x64 has had the 8800M GTX or something from the same family of cards. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Also... Before I started the process, I did partition the drive as I was installing vista using the vista software.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
are vikas drivers for the 8800, or the 9800?
-
It should be for both the 8800 and the 9800, but if I could recall correctly, it is one of the older drivers and may not be entirely optimized to work stable with the 9800. It's just a possibility-- I'm just throwing some ideas out there.
It only freezes after you install the video card drivers, right?
If you want, we can try out the "Have Disk" method of installing these drivers and see if that helps. Otherwise, findvikas might have some ideas on where this is coming from. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Yes, everything is good for about maybe an hour, than a random freeze, than wont boot back into windows without freezing.
"have disk" method?
From what I gather it will be a month or so before aw puts up drivers for the 64 bit, but I'll be back in school than, and wont have the time. I wonder if someone buys the m15x with 64, than they might have access to the 64 bit drivers in myhive. -
As for the "have disk" method, instead of installing the drivers through the setup, you basically install it through the device manager. I can walk you through the process if you can get on Xfire. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Ok, Thats what I assumed you meant, didnt know that term though. After hd tune is down, I'll try that method.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
well after 75 minutes of the scan, it has should up one red block so far, still got about anout 10-15 minutes... what do I do to find more info on the red block?
-
i'm not even sure about what scan you're running. but here's a fascinating question... what BIOS are you running?
only the x36 bios has the added support for the 9000 series from nVidia.
the bios, would still be able to, in theory, boot with the other GFX cards, but as soon as higher-level drivers initialize, the system would have a high probability of locking up.
you could try starting via the right-click method (automatically starts on integrated graphics) and see if that fixes your problem... -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
running version 36 p3A37
And it my system crashed as the end of that scan, so Now i dont get to know what that frickin damaged block was. I did a quick mode scan, and it found nothing. bah
And when I say crashed, I dont mean froze, i was tring to do more than one thing, and the pc didnt agree. so it is isolated, not the same thing, with the video drivers uninstalled, i can go for hours, never freezes, so am POSITIVE it has to be a video driver problem. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I can boot up in to safe mode, and integrate graphics no problem, it is only when i am running the video drivers.
-
but you have the x36 bios.... so what gives?
hopefully not hardware related. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
No, I doubt it is HW related, seeing how before it froze up it still gave me 9824 score in 3d06, and when I had 32 bit installed, i had 10211 score, and played lots of games with no problems.
-
It's definitely software related. If it was hardware related, the problems would have been carried over to his 32-bit partition.
-
I am not exactly sure what kind of freeze are you getting, but 2 weeks ago my m1730 for some weird reason started freezing randomly every few minutes when I type or click something, or even run any applications. In games, my clicks and keys were registering late and I ended up killing my friends in Left 4 Dead
. I thought it was my hard drives because they did a clicking sound every time the freeze happened, but after I did the test you mentioned, I had no red blocks at all. I reinstalled Windows and everything is perfectly fine now.
I really would like to know what happened... -
you sure its not vista? because i remember i had to remove some of my ram to get it to work, try taking 2gbs out, seriously, vista had major install problems over 2gbs, not sure if that was fixed in sp1, i dont think it was actually...
-
yeah... the only thing vista fixed RAM wise was reading it ( lol not even using it all)...JUST READING IT hahaha
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Ok, so anyone got any ideas? or just wait till aw supoorts 64 for me.
-
Try different video drivers.
http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/
16x, 17x and the 18x series are what you should be looking for.
Edit: Ahh, just noticed I forgot to link it for ya. Sorry. -
I want to help but wish I could, ok let me try... run msinfo32.exe and save the log to .nfo file, upload it in ZIP over here and I will have a look at it.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
thanks ocean, I have tried over a dozen differnt drivers. none work, I will get on that vikas.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I tried the new drivers from NVIDIAs site, and the new drivers from AWs site (they know have 64 bit drivers for the m15x), and when I try to install either of them, they both gave me this same error:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
How ever, I can install the drivers from vikas download. Has anyone tried to install either of these drivers that has the 9800m GT? -
The files should be extracted somewhere when you're installing it. Exit the installation and locate the folder where the files were extracted to and then move and replace the existing INF file with the modified INF file provided by laptopvideo2go. You should be able to install the drivers from there.
Edit: I'm surprised you're still awake at this hour.
Edit #2: I forgot to mention that the modified INF file that I provided you with is for the mobile drivers NVIDIA released recently ( 179.28). I'm not able to find a modified INF file for the 176.10 x64 drivers that Alienware has listed on their website. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
-
Odd how it shows up as that. Mine shows up as the 8800M GTX. If anything, I'll have to walk you through the "Have Disk" method to ensure it's recognizing the right card.
Just let me know if you want me to walk you through it. I'll be on Xfire. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
When running drive sweeper, Do I clean:
NVIDIA - Chipset?
NVIDIA - Display?
or
Both? -
Both.
10char. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
k, thanx. Im d/l the driver now, ill add the inf file, and than try the have disk method.
-
Please log on Xfire in the meantime.
-
xfire? who's got xfire here? please PM me if you do... always wanted to get in contact with fellow AW users.
-
I don't use it often but if you want to add me, my ID is oceanussirens.
-
Nothing to fret about tho, tis just an oddly placed name
Tom
And im Topper909 on xfire if anyone cares to know... -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
My Xfire is: Trast, name I game under in COD4 is: <s|t>*R*, Used to be T*R*ast, than pwnsta*R*. now just <s|t>*R*.
And yeah, after all that work Ocean and I did last night, still freezing up
gonna run hdtune now -
G92 is the chip generation/code for the 8800m-gtx.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
well, i ran hdtune, it found no errors.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
ok, I tried to install 176.37, ( from AW) and all it did was put an icon by my clock that when I click on it, it says "script paused" and has a check mark by it, when I click the check mark, it resumes. but nothing is happening, when I highlight it it says "UnsignedAutoAccepter_FR.exe".
so yeah. -
I'm having the same problem installing the nvidia drivers. I'm also getting the unsignedautoacceptor_FR.exe.
If you find a solution on this please share it...thanks -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
the people at AW cant even figure it out, none of the AW drivers they are giving out are working.
-
I'm pretty sure this problem is specific to those who have 9800M GT running 64-bit Vista.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
^^^ what he said.
-
I was having the problem with the 8800m GTX. I used the drivers that findvikas provides in his guide on installing vista 64 bit, and was able to get those to work...saved myself a frustrating call to Alienware this morning.
-
I love Vista64 Ult
I couldn't be happier with my M17
