He said that upcoming games will be with dX11 and dX10 will just gonna be sooooooo yesterday.... i wanna ask for you guy's opinion.hope u can help me out.thanks!

sigh... you do realize there are only a fraction of games that even utilize Direct X 10 right? Most are still Direct X 9.
    much less direct X 11.
by the time Direct X 11 really starts popping off it will probably be time to upgrade anyway. it should be on the way soon. why does that sound SO familiar?

Alienware is on the way to offer 5870s so stay tuned, don't rush now. IMHO.

If you're happy with your PC now, you should wait until the new Alienware comes out. Safe some money and get the better one.

I'd wait if you can. Remember the folks we said "wait" to when the I7 was on it's way? Well this is the same thing. I might be a month or two, but that's small potatoes compared to the decent power increase that will come from the newer chip.

    I would get directx 11.

titles alreay like dirt2 stalker, aliensvpreditor etc lord or rings online soon, battle forge and crysis 2

the improvement in quality for direct 11 makes it worth it in my opinion.

you must understand, that DX11 isn't fully adopted by studios just yet, so you'll have to be patient until more developers become more efficient and comfortable programming with DX11.

as of right now, i'm unsure if you can do 'low' settings for DX11. you're going to need a powerful notebook in order to play maxed out DX11 settings. keep this in mind when looking to purchase a notebook to max out new software.

Crysis 1 still brings desktops to it's knees - Crysis was poorly optimized and programmed with DX10, however, the visuals were out of this world. Crysis 2 will make no difference among optimization, however, the visuals WILL be outstanding if they implement the same techniques used to develop Crysis. hardware tessellation is amazing, though, you're going to really tax your system if you try to max out games like that. my suggestion to you is wait for Nvidia to release their mobile fermi processors in order to push ATI to either drop the prices of their machines, or perhaps reveal a new gpu that will debut later this year. it is NOT worth a 2 month wait unless you're trying to develop funds or unless a SIGNIFICANT change in technology is going to occur.

waiting for technology always makes you beat yourself up when you own your notebook for a month and a brand new processor is released that absolutely destroys yours. i would say either buy now, or wait until the end of summer / midway through fall. if Fermi does get released this year you can bet that ATI will lower its prices to compete against Nvidia, and that is when you should make your decision to buy. you can most likely have the ATI 5 series for a good deal, or perhaps find a revealed ATI 6 series nearing debut.

so my overall suggestion is either buy now, or wait 6 months, not 2-3, unless there is significant changes to hardware.

From what i have read Directx 11 is more efficient, thats why its such an improvement on dirextx 10.

It's not so taxing on the system

There is ALWAYS something better coming out in the future. The M11x kicks butt today. Why not buy something and enjoy it now rather than wait for the next best thing with no definite timeframe? ;)

A guess in weeks would be a huge help to me, ready to pull the trigger and it is getting twitchy :D If it is going to be 2 weeks to a month, I may as well place an order now.
    Thanks,

Like someone stated here before, technology will always progress and you could just keep waiting for something better to come along, but in that case you'll never buy anything.

I agree with that statement to some extent. It's a smart idea, however, to wait for milestones such as the release of a new type of technology--specifically DX 11--and not just a new video card. (i.e. going from a 335m to a 360m; or, going from a PS3 (120GB) to a (160GB).)

Typically (and we do sometimes prove this wrong around here) video cards in laptops are for life. In a desktop you don't care, new standard, buy a new card. But in a laptop, you may have to live for several years at whatever standard you purchased. Given laptops are often so far behind as it is, this can be a big deal. The offset to that is that the standards to day are making smaller and smaller improvements, which many reviewers can't see at all.

So you pick your poison, wait or buy. But in laptops the impact is a bit more serious than in other areas of tech or in other kinds of computers.

The "ONLY" reason I'm in a little rush is 2 weeks ago today my 1710 died big time, the computer the 1710 replaced is this I9100. The I9100 has been the best computer in dependability not specs that I have ever owned but is not far from the grave as well, fans are howling big time, good for surfing the net and email but that is it. Thought about just buying a netbook just to get me by, hate to waste $350.00 that could be added to the M17X when I buy, like I said a month may be too long, maybe 10 days I can Wait.

wow man, differents thoughts here... i hope there's a definite date for that directX11 to be used on these laptops....or maybe a shade of prediction... if its gonna be half a year, i might consider taking it now.

Sorry to hijack your thread. The 5870's represent DirectX 11 to me, if they were DirectX 10.1 I would have already ordered.

Try looking at it this way. Whenever the 5870's are released (and who really knows when, a number of usually credible sources said early March and its now early April) add at least another month of waiting until you will have it in your hands.

If you can wait that long go for it. New technology always comes out, but you might as well get the latest if its due in the next few weeks IMHO.

If the 5870 comes out, how can you expect the price to be? Should it be WAY more expensive than the latter or its only a lil bit expensive,or still affordable?any idea?

I don't think anybody but the marketingdepartment of DellAlienware can answer this question!

My need is only for one stong card, so if crossfire is affordable I wil take it... but else only one card for me, and I can't imagine it will be more expensive then a crossfire mob 4870 config.
