This is some news that might be of interest for Alienware customers: Alienware is closing their Irish manufacturing facilities and moving everything to Dell's facilities. I wonder what this will mean (if anything) for build time, etc.

If your in USA this should have no effect on your build time. If you live outside the US it may considering now the computer will have to be built in america and then shipped overseas, unless Dell has a manufacturing plant overseas somewhere.

    its all about bottom line.
while it sucks, and the fact now the dell will mix with AW (which a lot of us where hoping against), this may be a good step towards a more affordable AW unit (desktop or book) for more people.
it was always said that AW units were outpriced and too expensive. well, now there is a chance the prices may be more competative for the masses.

You know that Dell have owned AW for 3 years, or so right? The original post even says so. Dell know that people are still buying AWs with their premium pricing, so why would they lower the currently AW price?

yes i am aware of that. (anyone owning an AW should at least) but previously they had not integrated the facilities and AW was acting as an extension of dell. (i.e. while dell owned them, they still operated as an independant company).
the fact of doing this may signal what i posted prior.

Ah, I see. That would be horrid then. :p

Also, on the note of shipping time. I've been constantly checking the AW site for price changes, newer GPUs and any other updates since I will be ordering an m17 soon and noticed that they must have got some more 3870s in stock since they are no longer listed as delaying the order. Also, they estimate shipping at 10 days (28th April), provided you don't get the TV tuner. I'm considering ordering now, rather than waiting a month when they may have closed the Ireland facility and delivery may take several weeks.

they may already be sending new orders to other facilities to be filled.
as a biz, you dont continue to build to the last minute, you slowly transfer jobs, stock, people, and the like over time.

i agree, but with a company the size of dell, you dont wait.
if it was a candle making comany with a small employee base, and limited equipment, i can see staying longer or until near last minute.
but with dell, i dont see the need to staff or fully operate till the last minute.
