    Hello all,

Just got my new M15x, and it is every bit as beautiful as in the pictures, and every bit as powerful as I thought it would be. Windows 7 runs without a hitch, screen is the best I have ever seen, and the build quality is solid.

Only one problem: Alien Fusion, which is Alienware's power control interface, doesn't work. At all. An alien spaceship pops up where the interface should be, but nothing else.

Alienware settings do appear in the windows power control menu, so I do not know that I missing any of the settings. That said, toggling the alienware settings within the Windows dialog doesn't seem to have any effect, and I am worried that more regular power saving features (like lower link speeds, etc.) may not be working either.

The power control service module is enabled in the windows services mmc plug-in. Could that be causing a conflict that is keeping AlienFusion from running? Has anyone else had this type of problem?

As the M15x does not have an integrated GPU , fusion is essentially useless. It is a glorified version of windows power management so you really do not need it.

Because Alien Fusion doesn't properly support Windows 7 yet.
Just use the Windows Power Options instead and disable the Alien Fusion Service. It's a resource hog anyway.

I've been working through an extensive set of benchmarks over the last few days, trying to find out which Nvidia drivers work best on this machine. I found that turning off the Fusion process and setting it to manual start gave me a nice jump in my benchmark scores. You don't need it, everything it does can be managed through the standard Windows power management applets, and it does have a detrimental effect on performance. My advice would be to do as I have, and drop it.

Thank you very much for the tip. I read your other post on nvidia benchmarks and was amazed at the results. I generally disable anything that isn't necessary--I just needed to know that it could be done without any problems. Thanks again!

Hit the windows button and type in "Services". Select "Services" from the list of applications that appears. Find the Fusion service in the listing and set it's startup value to be "Manual", and then right click it and make sure the service is currently stopped.
