Been a long time since I've posted, but I remember getting good advice here!

So I bought the Alienware m15 and I decided to cheapen out a little bit this time, I got the near base model but with the upgraded screen (144hz IPS 1080p screen) since I have a desktop for my main gaming (this is mainly for lan parties).

This laptop came with the 1 TB hybrid drive, but the laptop felt crazy slow. I managed to fix it by disabling Windows Search. This stopped my computer from utilizing the hard drive at 100% all the time...and I mean all the time.

The question is, has anyone else had this problem?

My second question is, I saw that dell got more options now online. One being 2060 RTX OC without any added cost. Will this card differ from my current 2060 RTX? Does the OC mean it's just factory overclocked or do it come with a different configuration.

Not sure if anyone knows, but would help alot of if I should exchange the laptop since I'm still within my 30 days purchase.

Also if people recommend me doing anything different with my purchase (I"m already purchasing a 512 SSD because the hybrid drive just seems like the biggest bottleneck

    Edit:

One more question as well, the Graphics Amplifier, it seems to stick when opening, is this the case for everyone? Or should I exchange it? I pushed the lever at the back to open and one side opens fine but the other seems to stick.

    Thanks again everyone!!!

Stop right there. That's the problem.
Windows 10 and mechanical hard drives for boot do not mix.
Get a cheap M.2 SATA SSD for boot as a bare minimum, the rest of the bulk mass storage can go to the mechanical drive.

How does anyone in his right mind buy a laptop with a mechanical HDD as the OS/Boot drive in 2019?!

He didn't mention that he's upgrading on his own what he said is he's using an HDD and wondering why his laptop is slow.

I'm interested to buy the Geforce 1660Ti version with Core i5 or Core i7. However few things not clear if I need the Alienware or just the Dell G series.

Does it have SD card reader?
Can it run 3200MHz Sodimm memory faster than 2666MHz?
    XMP option?
Any overclocking option on RAM, CPU or GPU?
How many Hard disk or Solid state disk can it take?
Is the 144hz or 240hz screen worth the extra 100 and 150USD?
    Fan noise?
Only Windows 10? Someone tried to install Windows 7?

Ohh well, than it is nothing special or extra, compared to a Dell G. Maybe in size thinner. I will wait for something else.

Just spotted this beautiful thread, throwing .02 in ;)

    1. Does it have SD card reader? Who cares.
    2. Can it run 3200MHz Sodimm memory faster than 2666MHz? Who cares.
    3. XMP option? Who cares, just use HyperX Impact with CL14.
    4. Any overclocking option on RAM, CPU or GPU? Who cares about RAM overclocking. CPU? Yes, if you get an overclockable CPU! GPU, yes with Msi Afterburner etc.
    5. How many Hard disk or Solid state disk can it take? 2 if you go for the smaller battery, 3 otherwise. Max 8 GB of pure SSD storage or 4GB SSD + 5GB HDD
    6. Is the 144hz or 240hz screen worth the extra 100 and 150USD? If not then stick to 60Hz!!!
    7. Fan noise? Minimal after undervolting and repasting.
    8. Only Windows 10? Someone tried to install Windows 7? Haven't seen Win 7 on m15. What about Windows XP? Can it run MS DOS 6? Hello!

OP, probably better to discuss m15 http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-alienware-m15-owners-lounge.825553/ or a level above.
