Infrared for the media center remote. The mic is at the top of the monitor next to the camera on the left and right.

Sorry but I can't agree, or not completly :

after bying another HDD, Samsung, 320GO 5400rpm, I've done some benchs :

    HD Tune :

    Seagate Momentus 160GO 7200trs :

    Samsung 320GO 5400trs :

    HD Tach :

    Seagate Momentus 160GO 7200trs :

    Samsung 320GO 5400trs :

So ! Ok for the burst rate for 7200rpm HDD, but average (when you load game or big texture) is for 320GB 5400rpm...
    ;)

get the 1920 1200 for gaming... play crysis at 960x600 on very high ..... play RTS at 1920x1200...

gloss = fail for a portable laptop... and even for stationary monitors its annoying.

What's the point in selecting 'Very High' if you're running at 960x600, AND on an LCD where none native resolutions look dire. It seems the only reason is so you can comfort yourself in the idea you're playing it on 'Very High'. The game would look much better on a balance on Medium and High at the LCD's native resolution I think.

with motion blur on i would rather a lower rez and very high ... I take detail/effect over crisp strait line sharpness... any day also 960x600 is exactly 1pixel = 4.... so the image has 0 distortion and appears more soft almost AA ish.

its like saying u run a DVD movie on medium ^_^ motion blur is pretty new and in single player games i find it allot more visually rewarding to lower the res and pump the blurr..put your 2nd core to use

con fig is very personal but thats how i would do it. at the end of the day its a 15inch

That is your personal oppinion. My desktop LCD has a glossy surface and I would not change it for a matte one even if you gave me one for free and payed me to use that one instead.

How about, it's a subjective choice therefore you have no authority over other opinions.

"also 960x600 is exactly 1pixel = 4" Yes but when scaling on an analogue display, and one that can't dither to boot, it doesn't work like that.

My point is, the detail and effect is lost at only 960x600. A lot of the settings like shadows, and shader effects will be indistinguishable from High and in cases Medium for any surfaces and objects that are more than a few feet away as there simply isn't enough resolution on the display buffer to write the extra information offered by Very High settings.

    I have Questions for m15x

    Packaging
    1. What packaging does it come with?
    2. Does it have the black box with a white alien head?

    Start-up
    1. When you start it for the first time, does it act differently than with starting later? I mean, talking microsoft agents like my old hp.

Someone with gta:sa and an alienware m15x without the 8800gtx, please do a test with all high details, and max res and aa. Anyone with a 512mb 7800+ gpu, please run gtasa and test fps

    1. One black box follow by another black box
    2. Yes. the 2nd inner one.

No diff - U can start on wednesday or on april's fool day - Microsoft agent will still talk.

okay if I get the m9750, I will get 2 7950's in SLi,
    percentage wise, how much better is the " Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB " than my Mobile AMD Turion 64 ML-36, 2000 MHz

infact he spoke about a notebook. you can put your screen wherever you want, and then keep it there. when you are on the go with a notebook, it is often unusable with a glossy screen. with a matte one, less reflective, you would be able to use it in many different places ;)

I just got my m15x with the 1920 x 1200 screen and it is safe to say this is the best laptop screen I have EVER seen! It is very very bright for a matte screen. It is so clear and crisp. I love this screen. I love this computer. I hate Vista!

    Hello.

Any m15x owners out there able to tell me if the HDMI port on it can be used as an input port instead of output? I'm curious about whether or not I can use the m17x screen - assuming that civilisation still exists when it does - for playing games with an XBox 360.

i can already tell you 100% that you can't use an hdmi output port as an input. (not a stupid question though at all- its the kind of thing that you just hope would work and doesn't)

okay again here is my question

okay if I get the m9750, I will get 2 7950's in SLi,
    percentage wise, how much better is the " Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB " than my Mobile AMD Turion 64 ML-36, 2000 MHz

This is not releated to my m15x question, but since my thread was here, all the things I was going to post in that will be posted here.

The reason I did that is because in my other thread, it wouldn't take 15+ hours for a responce. No one reads this thread as much as a new thread. Now I probably won't get answers.

The last response BEFORE my thread was moved here was 2-25-08. That was 5 days ago. Now, because of careless movement It might take another 5 days to get answers.

I have no idea how to check who makes my screen. I am not as computer savy as many of you. If you give me a step by step, I will follow and report back.

But I can tell you, I love this screen!

Acer Ferrari 4005 is a great notebook. It's build quality is great and it never let me down. I love the way it looks as well.
The screen on the Acer is no wher CLOSE to the AW. The AW is FAR brighter, and much more crisp.
The AW is a little heavier, but he power bricks are the same size, within CM's.
You need to remember, the Acer is 3 years old, so it is not fair to compare proformance, but nedless to say, the AW kicks it in the pants as far as gamming is concerned.

The reason why the AW looks so much bigger is because it is on a lap pad and on a laptop cooler.

if you want, you can download everest (you don't have to install it) and run it. it gives you many information about your system. to check your screen, you must go to "video area" or "display area" and select "screen"; it reports the brand, the model and the id of your screen, that's what I'd like to know.

can you please make another picture of your m15x near acer ferrari, but with a better perspective? in your last pics, it seems that m15x is pretty much bigger, but I think it's only the position (obviously is bigger btw).

    thank you very much ;)

    @The OP - Thanks for calling it 1920x1200 and not 1200p :)

I must say that I am impressed. I am greatly looking forward to this series really maturing and offering more options. For PC notebookers, in my opinion, this is one of the first laptops that rivals the design prowess that Macs have capitalized on.
