Alienware m15x ship date.

Hi I am thinking about purchasing an m15x and on the website it says estimated ship date to be june 11. I was wondering how accurate is that? initial release i remember to be a lot of back orders but i was wondering how fast are they at building the m15x now?

 

It's very much dependent on what components you order (e.g. it appears 8700 orders will arrive almost within a week, 8800 orders take longer). Personally, mine took about three weeks.

 

You can see the phases in my signature. I was given a 2-week estimation. I was in Phase 4 and was sent back into Phase 3. I called and they told me they had the chassis on backorder, and they wouldn't get to my system for 2 more weeks because there were a LOT of laptops ahead of me.

I called and complained on Friday stating the estimation date, while it was simply an estimation, I relied on that date as a "general idea" of when my laptop would be shipped. Since I ordered it on May 2, and it was estimated to be shipped on May 14, and they requoted me June 3, I told them I'd like to cancel my order.

After a brief talk of cancelling a $4,000 order, and simply telling them Ford can build a car faster than they can build a laptop, and that I thought that was completely unacceptable, they expedited my order, told me my laptop would be built using the next shipment of chassis (which came in today), and my laptop would be 2-day air'ed to me by the end of this week.

Whether all this is true or not, remains to be seen. It could just be a stall tactic. She told me my computer was sent into production already, however my order status is still at Phase 3 (Payment processed, in queue for pre-production). So who knows. She said she'd call me on Wednesday with a status update. If it's not near completion by then, I'm cancelling.

You're probably waiting for the chassis too.

 

ship date from AW are not accurate, they always backorder and delay, rarely it ships earlier

 

Yah, apparently they've got an entire production line on hold until June because they forgot to order some more chassis for their laptops.

Their VP of Production needs to be fired and castrated.

 

I got a continually changing story about one part or another being out of stock. Canceled after they never assembled it for a month. It was already weeks after the projected ship date. Hopefully things are better now.

mine shipped early. i ordered the laptop on 3/3 with a 4/28 estimated shipping date. yes 2 months >>. but i did end up recieving the laptop on 4/19. it was a little earlier but not by much.

 

Mine shipped in a week.

 

Well I bet they are making changes to the case. That is why the large delays. They are probaly working on an updated design.

And customers that have the older style will never be the wiser.

Let's think about it this way... If they do come up with a revised case, we, the old ones, will just send it back as many times as possible to get a new system to replace our defective one. So as long as you are in the warranty period, I wouldn't mind too much.
At least, as soon as I receive mine I can start playing like a berserk, until my fingertips fall off.

 

You told AW to rush the build?

Hope they remember the 200 point check then, so they don't miss any issues before sending it to you....

That could be very true. Wouldn't look any different but could definitely be using a new plastic composition or higher-quality paint jobs.

 

here we are, talking about delays and stall tactics, and presto. i check my status and find out that i'm in phase 9! w00t!!

Isn't that sad in a way. "YOUR LUCK" on a 4k laptop.

 

We are all with our hearts in our mouthes... But we are still confident. Let's hope for the best.
At least there are a handful of us receiving it so we will be able to share experiences and give some more info to everyone.

 

Mine has been in Stage 5/Production since 5/9/08....I'm starting to get nervous. No movement since.

 

That's nothing; that's only been 3 business days. You can spend a looong time in one stage sometimes...

I think you should consider yourself happy... You ordered the extreme processor. It was recently discovered there is a problem with it and it is downclocking due to poor cooling system. Anyway, my order is really different from yours. They simply don't have all the things you ordered it with.

 

Here we go....so next week they "might" be able to give me an estimated ship date??

this is what i got from them:

"Unfortunately, I have been informed that the Area-51 M15X 15" WXGA+ W/CAM SIL-RIP-PNT is backordered. The estimated date of arrival is May 26, 2008."

 

Is that the case? Sorry to hear that guys... Hope they are wrong.

that's a mistake. i got it about five days ago, called CS, they said it was a mistake. and my lappie shipped yesterday, so i guess they're right.
