If you have a m15x and want a nice powerful ati 4870 with 1GB of gddr3, then just for $605, you can order one from euocom. It's MXM 3 and it uses only 65w, just like the 260m.

I don't think any sane person would pay that much, but it would be funny/interesting to see someone try it.

You should probably mention that it would only potentially work with the new M15x and that the old m15x users can't use it.

Also if it's MXM 3.0b that should be the GDDR5 version.

What I'd like to know, is why Eurocom has an MXM 3.0 4870, and why it gets the XT title.

They're probably the cards Clevo didn't end up using.

that's why I said MXM 3, I would think a m15x user looking to upgrade would know if they have 2.1 or 3 version of MXM.

they are selling laptops with i7 that have mxm 3 pcie. The 280m and the 4870 cost the same when configuring these laptops.

    4850 and 260M are a wash. 4870 (GDDR3) and 280M are a wash.

Because Eurocom has to have at least one reason for their obscene prices.

BTBH, the stock price on the W870CU isn't that bad, and you can choose the 4870 instead of the 280M for no additional charge. I really don't know why, but it doesn't make much of a difference. They seem like a small vendor to have the only MXM 3.0 GDDR3 4870's in existence.

Wonder what the clocks are on those, and whether they're basically the same parts as ASUS used (which arent really 4870s as they lack GDDR5 and decent clocks!)

The Asus 4870's were clocked right (550 core iirc), just GDDR3. The driver problem was a biggie, but that didn't stop certain users from hitting 11.4k GPU score, which was a record before the M17x.

Eurocom is huge in Canada , they are basically the Sager of Canada from what i have read about them... There just not liked much on these boards :)..

They have had all there machines Clevo is releasing sometimes more then a month in advance compared to the rest of the world so they are clearly in bed with Clevo directly..

nice find on the cards. these should work in M17x's as well, for those who must have ATI cards and if Dell never offers us an upgrade kit

The older Area-51 m15x has an MXM 2.1 slot not 3.0. Same with the M17.
