It looks like Alienware lowered the price of the m17x from $2200 to $1800, which is a huge price drop. They're also offering a 1440x900 screen, which is great for people that want a lower resolution screen. Even with the $200 screen upgrade that used to be standard, the m17x is still $200 less with the same specs as before. One very interesting thing is that Alienware had a model at $1800 with a SLI 8600M GT and SLI 8700M GT option and they only have the 8800M GTX in a new model that costs $3900. Considering how the m17x is suddenly 20% cheaper and that the 8800M GTX SLI can only be configured in the new $3900 model, it seems that a new laptop or refresh is imminent. It seems like Alienware is running out of stock on the 8800M GTX, which could be part of their reason for only offering it in a $3900 model. If that were true, that would mean that they're waiting to clear out the 8600M GT and 8700M GT, and then release a new m17x with Breed 3. No price drops on the m15x though, I'm sure they're selling enough to clear out their current stock now, anyway.

They wouldn't release a new M17x already. Thats crazy. They are probably putting in a 9800GTX. If they release a new laptop you realize they will have 3 17"s out at the same time.

They would probably drop the M9750 and lower the price on the m17x a little more. They could have made the m17x a lot thinner, 2.1" is really thick, especially considering what they did with the M9750. It would be awesome if they released a faster, thinner m17x and a new m15x.

Doubtful. There is no reason for a gaming machine to go from Santa Rosa to Montevina. Now, Nehalem, yes, definitely. I could see them holding out their laptops next year to ensure their new line has that.

There are thousands of reason to do so, if you just look at Clevo.

The performance difference between centrino and centrino 2 is only about five percent. The only upgrade they be likely to do would be the 9800m gt. At this point it would be better just to design a new laptop and release it in january. It would be kind of pointless to design two new models now and two new models next year

    What's Breed 1?

In any case if the thing came with Montevina (everyone else's machine at this level has it, can't be some huge showstopper to carry this can it?), a Vista 64 option, faster RAM, the 9800GTX and a hot quad core CPU, in black with Skullcap, I'd buy one (again).

Good catch BTW. Hope something happens soon.

I profoundly dislike these "Michaels' annoucements"...

They are only speculative and, like most of your speculative posts, they turn out being complete fantasies on the head of someone that has the need to keep posting false information, based only on... well, on nothing really! (And I mean... you post EVERYWHERE regarding new things being released, that never end up released... just look for the posts started by Michaels and you will see what I'm talking about).

I don't really understand your attitude, what are you seeking with these kind of posts... but I'm going to rephrase someone in Engadget, talking about some information you had on a new XPS M1530 bein released (and that was, obviously, false):

    "Boo typster... Boo!"

I wish I could give negative rep...

If he is giving out false information constantly, then he should be banned.

Plus, I don't get this Breed 1, Breed 2, and Breed 3 thing. I don't see that anywhere on Alienware's website. Maybe I'm not in the In-Crowd.

Well the price DID drop, that much is a fact. Whatever he wants to read into it is his own problem. I was told Vista 64'd be available on m17x in October by CS, so I'm hoping she wasn't lying.

The Breed thing is on the main page, the bar that loads on the right side, on the bottom. Its just vague hip CGI artwork that doesn't really lead anywhere, that ppl treat like a ouija board that'll reveal some sort of lead-up to glorious new revelations in AW technology or products. I don't like being ****teased by AW marketing so I'm ignoring it. When anything of relevance occurs it'll be on the order page.

By new models in the title, I meant that they changed it so there's a $1800 model and a $3900 model...

The rest of the stuff I said that there could be a new m17x is all speculative, but at prices like this, it isn't hard to believe.

There are different configurations of the m17x (not models) and they just so happened to reconfigure their base configurations of the m17x.

The one disappointing thing is you can no longer configure a low end setup (2.1ghz CPU, 1gb memory, 120gb HD), then go for the 8800gtx SLI option and mod it out yourself and save some $$$.
