    Hey guys,

Im in the field for a new laptop. I have always wanted an Alienware system since i first seen them years ago. I am now in the financial position i can finally afford one. I have a few queries, hopefully you can answer them for me.

I am looking at the m17x because i love the styling and the storage capacity, i am also looking to be able to play some games at lan partys ect. Mainly CS:S, Team fortress 2, COD4 and generally stuff like that.

The m17x is a beautiful laptop but for the premium i will be paying for an alienware i need some encouragement. I can get a ROCK Xtreme 780 with 4gb of ddr3, 9800m GTX, and an X9100 cpu. All of that for £1000($2000) less than a T9300, 4gb ddr2, 1.0tb hdd and 8800m GTX in SLi.

The alienware is my preferred system, i just cant see past the styling.

How much of a performance drop between the two am i looking at?
Will alienware be releasing the 9800m series gpus soon? i was reading that they were expected shortly.

One question for all you m17x owners, do any of you wish you had a different laptop?
What is the build quality of the m17x?
Is it feasible to carry it places? ie university?

Thanks a whole bunch guys, hopefully you will convince me to go for it.

a whole grand extra for a little extra hdd space and a 8800m gtx is just not worth it IMO.I would get the one from rockdirect, you get a extreme edition cpu, and way faster ram.
the 9800m gtx should be a bit faster than the 8800m gtx, it's got 112 SPs instead of 96 SPs, but 2 8800m gtx in sli will be ALOT better than a single 9800m gtx.

I wouldn't pay 2000$ for styling and 8800gtx.1x9800gtx will be totally enough for the games u mentioned!

Oh boy. Wrong forum if you want us to convince you to buy it. I personally will not tell you that you should buy it since in the end, it's your own decision to buy one or not. Just be wary of the potential attacks/"friendly suggestions" that you may receive from this inquiry. (No offense Sager/Clevo enthusiasts.)

Regardless of which, there are plenty of reviews of the m17x listed on these forums to help you make an informed decision. Use those to help you decide if it's worth your money. Whether you would like to pay a premium on the style of the m17x is absolutely up to you.

I agree with "O", they both have good points and bad (styling vs power etc.)

I considered the SL8 fully loaded but, it came near to the m17x in price and didn't have the "cool" factor so i went with the m17x...

It's up to you really, if you get the Rock OR the m17x you'll still be welcome on here, get what you prefer/need based upon your own opinion not everyone elses or you will get confused lol

    Just a suggestion mind you...

    Good luck (,")

Have not second guessed my decision on the M17X. It is more expensive then some, not as fast as others but for me it was the right choice and very happy with the look and performance.

For those games u ve mentioned the m17x will be sufficient enough. However there is no getting away that any Clevo brand laptop will destroy that M17x in any way. I like a good quality product and a good design is the part of the whole experience but the performance u can get from 9262 is just mind-blowing.

Hi w3bd3vil and welcome to the forum

the ball is in your court. i owned the m15x for a short time and that came with many horror storys. the m17x has been very quiet on the complaints side of things and this can only be a good thing. check out the m17x survey in my sig and that shows a lot of happy campers. only 6 replys so far (i think this means all the owners are enjoying their laptops and dont need to come here to complain).
just on the off chance and not trying to sway your options in any way but as youve looked at Rock have you also looked here as well. Kobalt Computers
    good luck with your choice.

Regrets? Sometimes... For one I ordered one of the first and my regret was waiting 4-5 months for my **** laptop.. After it arrived I couldn't find to much to complain about but after about 2 weeks I kept getting vista blue screens after about 10 minutes of it running.. So I did a system restore and it fixed the problem.. My main problem right now which has stopped me from gaming and led me to this forum is..... The **** laptop keeps shutting itself off when it gets to hot.. I have the 8800 SLI GPU and I'm just wondering if this is a problem only I am having or if other owners are having the same thing happen? It started doing this when i was playing Oblivion, then Bioshock, then Assassins Creed, and now WoW... So... frustrating when I have to repeat parts because my computer gets to hot and shuts down...

I know it's because it's overheating too because if i hold it in front of the A/C every 10 minutes for a little bit while gaming it doesn't happen..

I have checked everything else and when I get back into windows after the restart my battery is still 99-100%

The only game this hasn't happened to me while playing is any of the HL2 Source games... for what reason I don't know but it also never happens when I'm just running windows and not gaming..

Any advice/help would be appreciated.. thanks!

    Start new thread plz.

    On topic:
It is your decision, many people have been happy with their m17x. It is just a matter of do you what this over that. The m17x price might be higher that the others. But they do not have Smartbay, or AleinFX. Chaz recently reviewed the m17x. It can be found here.
