So I am undecided, I am trying to stay in a budget of 2000$ max, maybe a bit more, it depends..
Seems like I would get a bit more off the m15x and it be easier to carry around than the m17x.
I need some assistance with this crazy decision, :)

Here are the specs for the m17x:
And here are the specs for the m15x:

If your going to stick with 1 GTX 260M I would suggest the M15x. Upgrading to a second card later is a killer in $$.

Is thtere much of a price difference between the 2? imo the m15x due to as brock said, your going with a 260 gtx regardless, and well id say i7 720 over T9600

then again that depends on what you plan to do with it.

    gaming possible the T9600

    multimedia i7

although if your gaming generally, the bigger 1200p screen is always a welcomed bonus... (<3 big high res screeens :p)

the price difference is, 2100$ with tax for the m17x and about 1900$ for the m15x.
    200$ is the difference.

well i say for gaming get the M17x and get rid of the t9600 its a less beneficial upgrade ....

    Get a M17x with 260 in SLI and p8600 :)

Ok well ya if its for gaming id go M17x

and the moo makes a valid point on that, with nvidia gpu there not so cpu dependant, while gaming is so that may actually be a wise decision.

if you want to take it around, you do more multimedia photo editing etc, m15x

Seems like I'd get better specs off the m15x than the m17x mainly because of the size.
I mean how much difference would you see between the 15" and the 17" while you are actually on and gaming?

    ALOT !

2 graphic cards ARE ALWAYS better for gaming then 1. It usually is a 90% boost in gaming power. The Dual core CPU overclocked will run anything. I know i currently have it

CPU power is not a big influence while gaming. So if gaming is your concern get the M17x.

Besides, physics computation run on the GPU nowadays. Only really possible with SLI

I see I would want to replace my desktop... I also was thinking about the toshiba one the qosmio 850 but I think I'd get a better video card with alienware... The bigger screen 18.4 toshiba is really attractive compared with the m17x

17" screen is big enough for a laptop ;)
18.4" usually adds more bulkiness and weight for transporting. If you get M17X+Orion Backpack=decent mobility.

Arguing 17" to 18.4" is pointless. Even arguing the portability of the M15x is pointless, as it is the thickest and heaviest 15" on the market, rivaling that of 17" and 18.4" chassis, and its battery life is awful. If you can deal with the weight and dimensions, like Moo said, choose the Sli configured M17x with the base CPU. I'm running a Nano x2 right now and it's plenty fast for the basics, even a lowly P8600 will pair with Sli 260M just fine. And the M17x has far, far better battery life than the M15x with the addition of the integrated 9400M paired with low watt P series Core 2 Duo.

If size, weight, and battery life are all of concern (since you plan to take it to class, speaking behind experience here), just look elsewhere.

I think right now you can +175 USD and add your ram to 8G when you buy the m15x at Dell.
That is what I am ganna buy after my final exam.

Well I could see myself gaming often since I am planning to travel also. I love the looks of the qosmio 850 which is about 1600$ with discount but it's i7 processor with 250gs nvidia. Bigger screen. Hard choice. I love the looks of the toshiba qosmio over the alienware but the alienware does bring some firepower.
