    As the news says:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4636
Hopefully we'll see the m15x/m17x being offered soon.

BTW - we are supposed to get an m17x this week, the review should be done next week if all goes well. ;)

Wow. So its happening again. I heard rumors that bestbuy used to offer alienware then didn't. Now they are going to again =D

It would definitely help my decision if I could go to bestbuy and see and the cool alienFX on the m15x! And it will probably attract more customers to the AW website when they walk buy a laptop that can provide its own light show. Good move on AW's part imo and I hope they get the lappys in there soon as well.

i dont think we will ever get to see a voodoo in best buy since they are way more expensive than AW's. i dont think the normal consumer is willing to pay 2000 for a paintjob.

Yay you remember :). Yea Geek Squad is the pits. Luckily my HP that I have has been FLAWLESS so I haven't had to come in contact with them yet. All I have to say is that they dropped my computer and attempted to blame it on me but then felt like an idiot when I pointed out that there was a good 2" dent in my case 0_0.

I took it in working. The ship it off for a month. They get it back and say "sorry we couldn't test your computer it wouldn't turn on". I'm thinking what the hell and then we find out that they dropped it. Yea Geek Squad is just lazy. If you guys want me to write a whole list of stuff that they do I will. Oh one more thing.

I was there one time and a woman brought in her computer to have a virus removed and to be "tuned up" (an extra $50 or something). I'm watching and the woman goes to her computer and tells her it is complete (the woman just hits cancel on the defrag and whatnot). Then the woman is helped by another guy and he tells her they are still doing the "tune up". They have done a lot of shady things that I won't mention any more of.

This is a good move. Good exposure to the public etc I think this is a good move for sure also nice for people to see and inspect before buying custom online (or to expose to the brand)

Voodoo is supposed to be getting into stores but I doubt it will be bestbuy or any big chains or a large number of stores (they didn't with blackbird so why with voodoo omens?) anyway this will be good for voodoo and especially their move to go global and offer on site service-that people will pay a premium for. Can we get onsite service with alienware I used to be able to with dell.

Voodoo needs to release the **** omen so I can drool and configure and wish I could buy one...

    I'm not sure if you're aware, but Core 2 = EM64T = 64 Bit.

AMD isn't the only 64 bit competitor on the market.

Haha bestbuy already has the Gateway FX series out on their floor which is a great computer for the Price.

    Quad Core 2.66
    6GB
    64 Bit
    9800GT 512mb
    500GB (maybe I forget).
    $1250 (comes with screen)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113080 (The newegg version I assume it is a little more updated but still look at that price 0_0.) If it came in a larger case I would definitely consider picking one up but I'll be building my own desktop.

I hope they don't start selling m15x's at BB for the publics sake. You'll definitely be seeing more horror stories about them breaking once more people get a hold of them.

This is going to be a hard sell because of the gateway FX. Your average consumer is very price sensitive so this might be a bad move on Alienware. Exposure is great, but that could mean nothing if no one buys it.

I haven't heard of any recent hinge breaking from recent buyers (only time will tell but it's looking good so far). Also, wouldn't they just give you a freshly packaged m15x rather than the one on display?

Err.. I meant more people getting them in general. Most people aren't as fragile with their laptops as they should be.

Then by that logic, hinge breaking wouldn't be Alienware's fault. :p Though no one will probably admit to it for obvious reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the broken hinge owners weren't taking care of their m15x's as best as they could. This, of course, does not mean I don't acknowledge the hinge breaking issue to be a legitimate major issue.

I am but there is (?) support for the AMD 64 bit compared to the Intel 64. If I am wrong, I thought AW had an exception with the AMD/Vista crowd.

AMD64 and EM64T are interchangeable technologies. Intel based their EM64T around compatibility with the Pre-Existing AMD64 architecture.

There are two sides to this. The user who actually looks at spec's will know that the AW is no better than the Gateway. However, I've seen a few bestbuy employees (and I would do this too) tell the buyer that for gaming, AW is the only way to go because of (insert bull**** technologies) and (insert bull**** claims).

Hell if I was a bestbuy employee I would probably do the same because honestly when you get to the point that your money comes from what you sell, you end up using people that know little about technology. I mean geek squad charges $100 for a 9GB backup when I charge around $20 for up to a 160GB backup (because thats all that my WD Passport has).

Well folks, I got my m17x today.

So far I am very impressed. Extremely solid build, and the only gloss to be found is the LCD benzel. The matte finish is wonderful. I didn't mind the glossy finish of the m15x, but I'd take the matte over that anyday.

Review will be up in about two weeks. :)

Well I want to work in the sales dept. at best buy at least :). Figure I'd be ripping people off all day (only if I get commission) and it shouldn't be too tough of a job. I'm too busy right now to actually get a job there but it sounds like fun for a bit.

Sucks for us Alienware owners, its not going to be as unique anymore because everyone will know what it is and where to get it... especially when they will lower the prices big time on them, thats really going to take the cool out of owning one.

I can't see them lowering the prices. Alienware is a company that needs to maintain high prices for the sake of their image. You'll still be able to have your exclusivity. ;)

Hey...I figured I'd say something since I work in best buy in the PC dept. And we did get 2 of the alienware aurora's and we put one on display. And alot of people look at it everyday...but when they see 1700 they say ***. And we dont make commission so we dont like bulls**t people just to sell stuff. I'm sure maybe other people do that if they dont know about computers. But our staffs pretty good, and to be honest most of the people I work with think its a waste of money. When I got my m15x and told them about it they where like you spend $4000? why? but they dont understand it. lol. I use to work in Circuit City...and compared to them...i'd take best buy any day of the week over them

We're definitely going to stay unique because even if they know where to get it, will they get it?

And good stuff, Chaz. Easily breaking 12k. :)
