I just checked alienware today....and noticed that there OS options in the customization process has 64 and 32bit options...and the 64bit version of home premium is a free upgrade...Im curious...do you guys think we who already ordered our systems could get this upgrade for free as well?

If AW offer 64bit they must have AlienFX compatibility with 64bit OS.Can anybody know from where we can get this 64bit AlienFX?

Findvikas has had a x64 guide for the m15x up for months now... everything works. Why not give it a try?

I'm not saying that Findvikas guide is wrong. It's is much better if you have ALIENFX compatibility with 64bit OS when you install without any problem just press "next" and done.

You don't think that's what they did?

Vikas did all the R&D for them. all they needed to do was take his variations, and make an installer, taking that into account if the system is x64.

a few weeks of testing to see if the install operation can be broken on different configurations, and blamo. x64 support. 1/10th the effort.

Definitely worth going 64 bit. You can always run your system like a 32 bit shall you choose to.

vikas should put a small peice of pointless code or something really small somewhere and see if we can find it in the AW versions lolol

and i guess that answers my question about if the 8gb will work....SW33T!!

I confirm that they 'copied' (got inspired by) my idea. With the recent accidental release of their new CC I got a chance to verify how they are doing it. I was happy to see they did copy it :)

What's more they do copy the idea of TurnOffLights but guess they still haven't seen the ColorWheel and its capabilities, wish they can implement an advanced color mixer to choose any color from.

It really feel sad to see the price dropping so soon. I bought my m15x in August for approx $2000 after all the corporate discounts and all. Now just 150-200 more and I can get 8gb RAM + 9800 :(

while the cost difference is not a nice thing, i am not too worried about it.
i would like to see AW offer free upgrades for people that have purchased the m15x within the past 6 months. as well as a new recovery dvd with all 64bit drivers (up-to-date) on it as well.
heck, id be willing to afford a cost of $20.00 for the dvd and upgrade.... :D

ps: would be nice if the reps for AW here could put in a word at AW for all of us... :)

From what they told me, you can buy the 64bit version from their gear shop, and they will support it, if you buy it from someplace else, they dont support it, and as for free upgrade, no.

Just called AW and asked about the upgrade to 64-bit. The TS guy told me that the drivers will be available to download in a month or two, from My Hive.
and that they can not offer a OS upgrade becuase the licensing is only for new OEM systems. The same reason MS told me. So if you want to upgrade to 64bit then you would have to buy the OS your self, and install all the drivers when they are out.

Wait the second... if "the licensing is only for new OEM systems" does it mean that key from Vista Home Premium x32 works with Vista Home Premium x64 just like findvikas said or not?

They should offer x64 OS form the begining, when m15x released. Why they offered 4 GB RAM if anybody can not use them, they've waited all year to provide x64 OS and now AW doesn't support owners who purchased m15x with x32 OS, this is ridiculous

upgrade to my guide and you get 64bit support from me & others at forum. :)

i would not recommend to buy another oem from aw as you will not be allowed to installl that any system other than m15x even after you uninstalled from m15x. retail version gives you that freedom.

I just called Alienware and they told me that they are very delayed with software...

BUT THE GOOD NEWS - the only reason why they are not giving it out right now to us is because it is company policy that if they give it out, they have to have full support for it (understandable).. But they told me that they will be making it available probably within the next couple of weeks and they will DEFFINATLY send me a copy of the OS and the Backup DVD so thats good news!

P.s. I'll not pay double if AW does not upgrade to x64 for free
