I just checked alienware today....and noticed that there OS options in the customization process has 64 and 32bit options...and the 64bit version of home premium is a free upgrade...Im curious...do you guys think we who already ordered our systems could get this upgrade for free as well?
-
, AW really does offer 64bit on the m15x now as well. me personally, i will contact AW and ask about a free upgrade.
-
Yea...this really makes me mad...since I just ordered my alienware a week ago and they never had this option >.> Please post whizzo if they are offering the upgrade for free.
-
i think i'll give 'em a ring tomorrow if i have time. we'll see from there.
-
If AW offer 64bit they must have AlienFX compatibility with 64bit OS.Can anybody know from where we can get this 64bit AlienFX?
-
-
i'd be interested to see if they will offer this or not as well...
-
well they have to... unless they pull an EA and just steal vikas' mods...
-
meh i have a bit of free time on my hands right now..ill give em a hollar and let you guys know what the deal is
Guess not....closed on sundays :*( -
-
and now up to 8GB or Ram in the M15x
-
Vikas did all the R&D for them. all they needed to do was take his variations, and make an installer, taking that into account if the system is x64.
a few weeks of testing to see if the install operation can be broken on different configurations, and blamo. x64 support. 1/10th the effort. -
Definitely worth going 64 bit. You can always run your system like a 32 bit shall you choose to.
-
vikas should put a small peice of pointless code or something really small somewhere and see if we can find it in the AW versions lolol
and i guess that answers my question about if the 8gb will work....SW33T!! -
Yea you should have patented that or copyrighted it or something so AW would have had to pay you for it
-
I am really serious when i say that I truly do believe that it is extremely possible that they took findvikas's work. will AW send a copy to me you think?
-
i'm sure you can download the 64bit CC from MyHive now.
-
-
might not be online yet...
-
yeah i do not see it either..

hmph, that is all i can think to say.
-
haha steven sorry to laugh but after all you've been through with switching to 64bit, and then switching back after problems with the CC...
-
I confirm that they 'copied' (got inspired by) my idea. With the recent accidental release of their new CC I got a chance to verify how they are doing it. I was happy to see they did copy it
What's more they do copy the idea of TurnOffLights but guess they still haven't seen the ColorWheel and its capabilities, wish they can implement an advanced color mixer to choose any color from. -
I think we should all REP and thanks findvikas to (finally) get 64 bit support *directly* from alienware. Thanks again for all your hard work findvikas! They should send you an 9800

How long till AW posts up all the drivers and software that supports 64, Ive noticed the do have the drivers for 64 bit 9800 gt.
-
I just wonder if they will post 64bit softwares in your my hive as you purchased a 32bit version of vista. They should make them publically available for download
-
It really feel sad to see the price dropping so soon. I bought my m15x in August for approx $2000 after all the corporate discounts and all. Now just 150-200 more and I can get 8gb RAM + 9800
-
well first off, not to sound like a newb....but how do i do the whole rep thing lolol
\and sencond:
i spent 3770 on mine lol (US) and it has dropped a little too...but for the ram...i bought with 2gb which is still rediculously priced on their site but the best bet for anyone as i am noticing is to buy with 1gb and upgrade from our best friedn....(NEWEGG DUH!) -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Yeah I wondered that to vikas, but waiting to see if whizzo gets the free upgrade.
-
they don't yet offer it in europe
-
-
-
while the cost difference is not a nice thing, i am not too worried about it.
i would like to see AW offer free upgrades for people that have purchased the m15x within the past 6 months. as well as a new recovery dvd with all 64bit drivers (up-to-date) on it as well.
heck, id be willing to afford a cost of $20.00 for the dvd and upgrade....
ps: would be nice if the reps for AW here could put in a word at AW for all of us... -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
*a good word.
-
I checked this website http://support.alienware.com/Support_Pages/Restricted_Pages/driver_downloads.aspx but there is not any drivers for m15x (x64 OS) yet
-

Im calling roswel right now, ill let you guys know what i come up with.

From what they told me, you can buy the 64bit version from their gear shop, and they will support it, if you buy it from someplace else, they dont support it, and as for free upgrade, no.
-
-
and that they can not offer a OS upgrade becuase the licensing is only for new OEM systems. The same reason MS told me. So if you want to upgrade to 64bit then you would have to buy the OS your self, and install all the drivers when they are out. -
-
This stinks... I really was counting on them sending me one... Oh well... Everyone should just keep calling untill they get sick of it and be like Oh well, lets give it to them!!!!! BS! X0
-
They should offer x64 OS form the begining, when m15x released. Why they offered 4 GB RAM if anybody can not use them, they've waited all year to provide x64 OS and now AW doesn't support owners who purchased m15x with x32 OS, this is ridiculous
-
i agree. it's only fair.
-
upgrade to my guide and you get 64bit support from me & others at forum.
i would not recommend to buy another oem from aw as you will not be allowed to installl that any system other than m15x even after you uninstalled from m15x. retail version gives you that freedom. -
I just called Alienware and they told me that they are very delayed with software...
BUT THE GOOD NEWS - the only reason why they are not giving it out right now to us is because it is company policy that if they give it out, they have to have full support for it (understandable).. But they told me that they will be making it available probably within the next couple of weeks and they will DEFFINATLY send me a copy of the OS and the Backup DVD so thats good news! -
P.s. I'll not pay double if AW does not upgrade to x64 for free -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Im telling you vikas, that rapid share sux.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
not to sound unappreciative, but wow d/l @ 36kbs... I ain't going to pay them to d/l it any faster, gonna take over an hour to d/l 70 megs

If you want findvikas, I could lend you a portion of my server for you to upload stuff to.
