just phone in and ask for a 64bit disk your entitled to it anyway....
-
-
at a cost or for free?
-
Let me put them all on my server sometime later this week. I know how I can get time for myself.
-
you are joking. can we get this stuff as well?
-
YES! They told me and i stressed the word "definite" on the phone (i didnt want anymore surprises if you know what i mean) - That they will, although they dont have a definite timeframe, release the 64bit and backup DVD to me for free once they have all the drivers and software available...
I told them that i spent 4gs and my friends have 64bit systems that only cost 1400... I also told them I spent over 1000 on Adobe CS4 64bit (i didnt really) and i want to use it lol.. -
You can not use the Key from the 32bit Vista included with your AW for 64bit. The license that AW uses is a OEM, Which only allows the 32bit Vista. If you want the 64bit you will have to buy a whole new license. Else you would not have to go through AW for this offer. MS was giving free upgrades for any one with retail Vista 32bit. But since AW uses a OEM version, then you are locked with that OS with that Key.
Didn't we all try doing this when Findvikas made the original 64bit fixes. -
I called them today and they said that they cannot give me the upgrade. They said that they MIGHT offer the upgrade in the future (he said they did it before), but there are no promises.
Being the cynic I am, I am not holding my breath if they can hold out and you buy it from them. Afterall, they snookered us to buy RAM we couldn't use in the first place. -
Actually, if you have a windows vista Ultimate 32-bit system from alienware you can use the key for 64 bit ultimate. I know because I installed 64-bit ultimate after I received my system and it when I entered my key for activation it accepted it fine.
-
Right, now I'm very confuse about this key of OS
Wait the second... if "the licensing is only for new OEM systems" does it mean that key from Vista Home Premium x32 works with Vista Home Premium x64 just like findvikas said or not? -
After asking it again and again, you made me confused and I am asking myself... will it work
Ideally it should, I do not have any way to test & confirm.
-
My key worked perfectly with 64 bit vista. Its just the media you need to acquire (running on Home Premium).
-
So what if i could find a copy of the media, you think i can use my key?
AND JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW...like i said before, AW told me today that they will deffinatly send me the 64bit os AND theback up DVD when all the drivers are made available..
VIKAS should just rewrite the OEM version of AW 32bit and turn it into 64bit for all of us
-
wait a minute, If my m17 comes with vista 64, can I install vista 32 with the key?
furthermore, can I dual boot vista 32 and 64 in the same system with 1 key? -
does it have to be the same version of Vista? or i could i use my key (running HP x86 now) to run Ultimate x64?
-
I received an emial from microsoft...
"The order of the alternative carrier does not cause the obtainment of additional licence rights. The alternative carrier has originally to be peaceable with the language bought the product. If you bought Windows Vista originally 32 the Bit EN, then you order the alternative carrier in the version Windows Vista 64 the Bit EN. 64 the bit Windows Vista EN use to the installation of the version the Lord the key of the product from the possessed licence Windows Vista 32 the Bit EN."
-
how... helpful.
-
okies....
can i get a dumb persons walk-thru on how to convert to 64bit then...
i am lost on this one now...
(i have 32 home premium currently) -
1) get an install disc with the OS flavor you want.
2) nuke your HDD (obviously, back up all data first to an external disc).
3) install the new OS.
4) install all drivers, don't forget vikas' CC (watch out for the correct order of installing!).
5) move your data back onto your HDD.
at least, i think this is how it's done. haven't done it myself yet, waiting for HDD prices to go down so i can upgrade HDD and OS at the same time
-
thx...
but i thought the key was associated with the install disk...(i.e. if the key did not match the one on the disk it would not install)
when does the key come into play?
how did the others use the 32 key for the 64 OS? -
oh, sorry. i think the key comes in play when installing the new OS, i.e. you will get prompted to enter the key at some point. as for using one key for 32bit and 64bit, i believe you can just enter the key normally and it will work. no guarantees though.
-
OK, i thought the key you enter is what justifies the version of vista you get...So i dont believe that you can enter your vista Home premium key for Ultimate...
but hey is the OEM key working at all with 64bit...even if you downloaded it?? because if the key is working right now please let me know -
I wonder some other thing. I`ve got my M17 2 weeks ago, its great, works on Vista 64 bit. But I`ve read that it`s very possible that brand new and better tha Vista (heard that before with Vista/XP
) Windows 7. I just wonder if we, Vista owners, will have some opportunity to switch to Windows 7 for free or with some small fee...
-
hehe "switch for free"... you wish... micro$oft will squeeze us for every penny, mark my words.
-
that sound very unlikely,
that what I'm going to do,key from x32 home premium propably will work with x64 home premium but with different version... I dont think so. -
yeah, it was live-dreaming from my side
-
lol! you think we can get it for a "small fee"???
-
good question, might well be. me personally, i'm getting 64bit Ultimate from a friend who happens to have access to those snazzy vendor install discs.
-
Yeah, the key dictates which set of features you get, but doesn't care about the bit-ness.
-
I'm wondering how does it work if you put the some key to "the some" version of OS(from x32 to x64)but with different language... from EN OS to DE OS
-
Language shouldn't matter. I know that with Vista Ultimate, you can download alternate GUI languages, so I would imagine that a Home Premium key is a Home Premium key is a Home Premium key. I could be wrong, though.
-
rigth, I'll try to install first x64 OS with different language.
Alienware now offering 64bit OS?
