Yeah - that video has been around for some time now. I guess when you work on ANY packaging production line, it becomes monotonous and the value of the items being packed becomes completely insignificant to the packer. To them, they are just another thing to slap in a box. It is unfortunate that economics play a massive part in things - assembly/packaging costs are kept to a minimum with cheap outsourced labour by many large manufacturers, and it does lead to sloppy QC.

I guess that the trade off for cheaper production costs when compared to the volume and cost of complaints/returns etc is heavily stacked in favour of lower costs of production, which means more profit overall.....

This is quite old...I'm sure some stuff has changed now that this is out there.

The first time I saw this video, I wasn't exactly happy to see this, but after watching it a few times, I see that it isn't really all that bad compared to most other manufacturers. At least their workstations are clean and padded.

Now that Michael Dell is in alliance with Silver Lake, taking Dell private ( read more...), I'm hoping he sticks to his plan and statement of improving everything across the line by making Dell a more 'customer based' company. And maybe he'll bring some manufacturing back to the USA, now that economy is picking itself up off the ground.

Can't wait to see what's in store for Dell next year. It's going to be a big year...

It'd be interesting to see if AW remains a part of Dell and if they will try to make it a more premium/niche brand (and charge more like Apple). They have a unique product with the M18, not so much in the other areas, but still considered unique. People might pay more if the support / problems decreased and they could also setup a kiosk in all the Best Buys of the world.

I just read an article outlining how the outsourcing trend is slowly reversing, and that both European and US companies are moving production back home. A higher degree of automation, worker skill and not least higher quality were mentioned. I would still expect a period among CMO's (contract manufacturers) with consolidation and bankruptcies, in the EU at least.

I read something similar. Hopefully this Middle East crap ends soon and we can focus on our economy.

Yeah, this video keeps resurfacing by people that haven't seen it before.

I am hope Dell does the same thing now that it is becoming privately owned again. I hate outsourcing, especially when it is off-shored outsourcing. Bring it all home, do it in-house with your own staff, and hold employees accountable for doing what is best for the brand name and the customers that support it. That's worth a few extra bucks to me, too.

I would not mind if Alienware becomes more stringent with discounts and ups the price a bit if the results are in-house manufacturing and QC.

IF you watch the other guys, they have gloves on and aren't slamming them around, and he keeps looking over his shoulder and peeking around.
Either this guy is a punk showing off because he feels liberal with his job or someone put him up to it for a gag or something.
Someone has a phone in the production like and is just casually messing around and people goofing off. Jeez sounds like americans on the job.

I hope that punk has been fired or something like that.

Also they are speaking Cantonese, which means they aren't near inland china like the unregulated Foxconn facilities are.(mandarin is spoken in inland and lower china)

sounded a lot like catonese to me, I was around it a lot when I was helping import this Korean game, that the version I was helping with was all in Cantonese, as well as some of the people we were talking to and many of the marketing videos were all in Cantonese.

Also just for giggles, my keyboard has Chinese characters on it

It's definitely mandarin, NOT cantonese.....I know both and cantonese is my native language

btw i believe your keyboard is a taiwanese version?
seems like only taiwanese uses this input method/layout and there are many more chinese input method (not as straight forward as english)
