I just can`t believe the price of Alienware notebooks at the moment, in my opinion they are pricing a lot of people away from them.

In the UK we are now being charged for bluetooth and a wifi card, i`m not sure if thats the same worldwide but it never used to be that way. Recently the base price went up from £1499 to £1549.

Bluetooth now costs £30, Intel® Wireless LAN 6300 is now an extra £20. So before you even start to build your system they have added £50 to the base price + £30 for Bluetooth and a further £20 for Wireless Lan 6300. If you add those up it comes to £100 extra before you even start your build.

Ive been talking to a rep over the last month, he told me last week that Alienware are no longer going to offer discounts so he couldn`t better his last quote from 1 week previously.

I appreciate that they are quality systems but the price i`m now being quoted for the spec i want is crazy, i can get a very similar Clevo system for £650 less which is a huge price difference. Also the Alienware single card systems are even worse with the price.

They need to take a long hard look at their pricing becuse its getting crazy, they have been quietly rasining the prices, first it was a base price rise and now they are making you pay for bluetooth and wifi.

I`m one customer they have lost, i have the cash waiting but i refuse to pay OTT prices.

OK, and what this thread meant to do? Last time I checked Wi-Fi is standard, no extra charge. I guess this thread will fill up soon with Alienware haters and Clevo fans.

To make people aware that Alienware are no longer going to give discounts which is what i was told by an Alienware manager that ive been dealing with in the UK, the only thing that made Alienware competitive in price was the discounts that they offered over the phone or by email.

If the significant rise in prices doesn`t interest you then you have no need to read the thread, i just skip past threads that don`t interest me. This one obviously doesn`t interest you.

I don`t want the Clevo, i`d prefer the M17X but i won`t pay OTT prices.

It sounds like you got a good deal that your happy with, yours is an M15X though, the rep i was speaking too was dealing with me about an M17X and he said that Alienware were no longer offering anymore discounts. I just presumed he meant across the board with all the models, he probably meant they have been instructed not to discount the M17X.

Here is part of the email where the Dell/Alienware manager told me that they are no longer offering discounts on Alienware.

    Dear XXXXXXX

The Quote which was offered to you was the best price ever because if you
prepare the same quote its coming to almost 2700+ approx.

There's nothing which we can do about the price as we have stopped offering discounts for Alienware.

I have tried all the possible options and was not able to offer a better price
or even the same quote XXXXXX offered as that’s also expired.

    Thanks And Regards

    XXXXXXXX

It's funny, and I don't mean to offend you in anyway, I keep hearing about how expensive Alienware is and decided that I am tired of it, if you can't afford one and know it then don't. You can get much better prices on another brand of laptop like Clevo or Asus, Alienware is for us enthusiasts who must have it no matter what! Well that's my case scenario. Sorry I just had to get this out. It's even stated in the Alienware thread. "Alienware is the world's largest boutique brand, offering high-performance systems for gamers and enthusiasts."

Yeah, this is exactly right. I wouldnt keep calling BMW and trying to haggle them down to the price of a toyota. Not trying to call you out, i'm only saying that if you dont want to pay that much why continue to hassle yourself with it.

Or try the dell outlet. The i7 systems are now part of the inventory. You can save a great amount there and still get what u r looking for.

I can easily afford an M17X, that isn`t the issue.

Alienware have gradually been sneaking the prices up in the UK, we already pay a far higher price than most other places in the world for the same system. The prices that US customers pay seems very fair for the spec, its the price that we pay in the UK which is bordering on being crazy.

Its like with the apple iphone, a lot of their loyal customers will pay virtually any amount of money for a new release regardless of whether its value for money or not. It becomes a status symbol so that they can say to other people that they have an iphone when asked, i see a bit of that going on on here at times.

I`m not saying that the M17X is isn`t value for money in the US and other parts of the world, its just in the UK its well over priced for what you actually get.

I can build one of the best PC`s you can imagine for the money that Alienware are asking for an M17X in the UK, i know what the components will roughly cost that go into the M17X and believe me they are making serious money out of UK customers.

Lol you still gotta wonder why they are making a profit. Businesses are there for a reason. Profit. Why did they raise the prices of their goods in the UK? Would they be able to make the same profits they do in the states than in the UK? Shipping charges? Taxes? Etc etc? These are factors you definitely must consider. Canada and US is like right next to each other so I don't know if the taxes are that serious. UK however is not close to the states. So it seems fairly obvious to me that they may need to raise their prices to make profit. However, how much the prices have raised is unknown to me. I am just saying that they raise the prices possibly due to taxes and stuff.

I'd tend to agree with the OP on UK pricing, bluetooth should be standard amd not an upgrade for £30. But UK users must remember that DELL USA doesnt include Sales tax therefore add 17.5% on for UK VAT before comparing (tbh I wouldnt be surprised if the extra was to cover some new government tax, thank you labour for the mess you left the country in!). You should be able to get EPP discount on it still so check with the company you work for if they are signed up to the EPP Scheme.

Khybrid as for your post regarding the UK being further away from the US/Canada that is complete rubbish as all the systems are assembled and made in China not US/Canada.

Right simon, however I would have to imagine that AW would have another reason to raising the prices. Lol maybe they just hate the British, I hear a lot of offensive jokes towards the British from the US. It's kind of sad...

It really depends on the cost of living within your country.I have worked for a couple of American company's in the past that have operations running out of UK & my Salary is double for someone of the same position from America. And when i am workin in Norway the Norwegian's salary is nearly double of mine etc etc. That's the way it is.Price's vary hugely from country to country but i think it pans out.

This thread is useless. What was the aim of this thread? was it in hope that enough uk'ers read this forum and would eventually complain enough to get aw uk to drop prices? Or hoping one of the AW reps were scanning the forums and was like " oh, our prices are too high, this guy tells us this. We should drop them !!!".

To me ill be honest, in your case, it sounds like the rep you got doesn't want to lower his price anymore because he will lose commission, and you have probably phoned him enough times to complain that he figures you'll pull the trigger anyways. Phone AW and try a different rep, some reps are more giving then others to make a sale.

And the other thing you've got to remember is, these people who have haggled them down are rare. Most people don't think of haggling. Your not going to try to walk into an apple store and haggle them down on an iphone, its the same thing here. Most people don't expect a discount or ask for one and most times pay for full price. Now that its been advertised on a big forum like this, im sure AW is aware or haggling now and told their associates to be more firm with their sales.

Alienware reps managers or not are all the same. They need commissions and they need their quotas.

This means that if the manager did not come close this month he is not going to offer discounts for that months...

We all know there are thousands of reps and all of them have their own story each time we call them.

I think you may be confusing price hikes for exchange rate adjustments, tariffs, and a plethora of other minor charges that a company incurs from operating in a different country. Which is why it's hard to compare even US prices to UK prices. Different markets, different taxes, the only constant is the product.
