Whats the general consensus on a technology refresh on the Alienware range, I was thinking something along the lines of a 280m in the m15x and some monster in the m17x to coincide with the release of the m11x?
Very interested in the M11x but still a little stuck on whether to get the m15x instead. I go like my video games.
Thanks for the help lads, appreciate it.

gtx 285m or 5xxx mobility is my guess
chances are since the radeon 5k series has a nice TDP it will overclock well
in crossfire it should perform near a desktop 5870 -
Is this for the 15x or 17x? Any ideas about when they might refresh the system as well? So I can save up all my pennies and buy the top system.

i suspect by late march or futher down the road there will be an M17x..
Intel 720qm ---> eventually 32NM nahelem 6 cores 12 threads w/ HT
intel H65M or something like it w/ USB 3.0
crossfire mobility 5870
honestly i would wait rather than buying a new alienware now since the systems are so damn pricey.
core i7 runs hot also so ill never expect to see 3ghz being the norm when overclocked with hyper threading, wait for the 32nm core i7s -
I hope they do it RIGHT NOW because I want an M15x with a decent graphics card and money burns a hole in my pocket. I'm not likely to be able to hold onto £2000 for a month or two, not to mention the fact that I'm absolutely desperate for a new laptop with a little bit more punch than this piece of junk.
1.7GHz Intel CPU (I dunno which one, the sticker only says "centrino" and that means mobo, graphics card and processor are all intel)
504.2MB RAM (yeah I know its weird... don't ask me why or how)
128MB integrated Intel GPU (the system would probably get more use out of an empty space where this thing sits... y'know, for cooling...)
37GB HDD (I know, you're jealous aren't you?!)
Yep, thats my beast. As soon as I get a new system I'm gonna take this little guy, put him in a suitcase along with a dozen or so bricks and drop the whole thing in the Thames. So it can never trouble me again. -

I'd put money on it that we won't see even a quad-core 32nm CPU until the end of the year, maybe even 2011. It's likely to be Sandy Bridge architecture too, not Nehalem/Westmere. -
i havent been keeping up with i7 news that much, only the 980 i7 is showing for 2010
either way, the tech is still far ahead of the software so, it's not that big of a deal
edit- apparently 32nm tsmc is cancelled -

I doubt there will be a refresh happening anytime soon. The M17x was just refreshed with the i7 and RGB screen. The only update to the alienwares will be the Mobility 5000 video cards. And I doubt those will be in by February. Im expecting them in April probably.

Lol. Toshiba will be very sad hearing those words
And if you can't wait I recommend you to buy an M17x R2 now. For £2,000 you can grab a standard specs with RBG LED screen. A single 4870M will do. -
Oh and Toshiba may be sad... but they don't know how lucky they are. If I had my way I'd put everyone who works for Toshiba in the Thames, with a brick. Which in itself should stand as testament to the psychological damage this computer has done to me... -
still waiting for the m17x r2 here in australia. they said launch on 25th/1/10 but its 9:44 am now and still not up there in thier website yet..

Oh R2 is not available in AU yet
By the way Im pretty sure you gonna get a PM "do not bypass language filter" -
Yeah you might want to edit that, quickly.

Australia day.

the site have changed on the m17x yes, it even talks about i7 and the ATI cards, but those changes were applied 4 days ago. the option to actually select those changes are not made avaiable to the public =(
look like i will wait for a few more hours and refresh the page again. A boy can only dream... -
