I want to buy the m15x. I was wondering if anyone knows how to avoid the $200+ sales tax? I usually ship my things to my brothers house in arizona or nevada to avoid sales tax on things... but alienware still charges a $213 sales tax.

Does anyone have any advice. thanks.

I know the sales tax is ridiculous, 200! I mean we spend enough on the laptop itself, hmm to be honest the only other way i know is to declare your purchase as a gift, that way you dont get charged.
I do that with a lot I buy from abroad.

I live in Nevada and got charged sales tax on the order.

Usually it has something to do with presence in Nevada, this time by Dell or Alienware. Or are they just playing safe across all states?

They do the same in WA. That was one of the reasons I went with the Sager.

Is the sales tax include shipping or it is separated?

Alienware is a part of Dell now and since Dell has a presence in the majority of states (perhaps all), you are going to pay sales tax. There's no way to avoid it. As noted, you can get a student discount on Alienwares but it is not that much. Every little bit helps though.

Not all states have sales tax, though..

    Alaska
    Delaware
    Montana
    New Hampshire
    Oregon

I assume you wouldn't pay if you had it shipped to one of those states?

FYI... I thought the student discount did not apply to the m15x... but i was wrong. I was able to apply the student discount to the m15x over the phone. It is just a 5% discount not much but better than nothing.

I can't sign up for the discount for some reason. They accept my email address but I never receive the confirmation email :( They never wrote back to my inquiry either.

I live in California and Alienware charges sales tax on orders.

Ok if that's their policy it might not be great but its their business. What I want to know is why Dell, who own Alienware won't charge sales tax if I order an XPS?

Dell's not charging tax because they feel like screwing their customers. Dell charges tax because they have to in order to comply with the law.

Out of all the things you could be complaining about...sales tax?!

My boss is a telecommuter and lives in Oregon but if she knew I was buying a $3000+ laptop she would think she's paying me too much! ;)

i know they are not... but i usually don't pay sales tax ordering stuff online from AZ... $220 for sales tax is a lot of money.

hey i heard that dell is closing all or most of its kiosks inside malls... if that being true i assume that it will not have a sales presence in a lot of states again.

do you think that this will remove the sales tax in more states?
