gaming does not come in small packages....since alienware delivers primarily to the gaming market (someone correct me if i am wrong), it wouldn't make sense for alienware to come out with a small form laptop

in other words......don't hold your breath waiting

I would prefer a very light notebook if I am going for small one and a long battery life. I have my PSP for small screen gaming :) This small one does not look good enough, I guess thats why they come up with m15x... power pack of size, weight, power !

Alienware is a boutique store that caters to gamers as its main consumer. That's like a store that sells business suits suddenly trying to sell jogging shorts at the same time.

You can't put high end performance in a small notebook, and honestly if you aren't an Alienware fanboy/girl you probably aren't going to be willing to pay the steep premium associated with their company when you can get a thinkpad for a lot less money.

Agreed, that about sums up my thoughts as well.

Alienware released some "small" 12/14"notebooks several years ago under the Sentia brand name. They most likely did not do that well since Alienware is no longer making them. Alienware is heavily positioned on gaming, which is what they do best; selling non-gaming/performance machines is Dell's job.

Yes Dell, has the mini 9 now. I also think a lot of business folks will stay away from AW because the boss will probably be like, "Jones, what is that stupid alienhead doing on your laptop?"

I would say that they cater to ripping gamers off :). Just kidding but I had to throw in that bad joke.

And yes AW should just focus with the 15 / 17" because if AW manages to fit a 8600GT in a 12" notebook we're all ****ed.

The biggest issue with smal form factors is the components themselves, unless the CPU/Heatsink/GPU(s)/HDD's are small as well you're never going to shrink the case all that much.

Besides which, the heat build up would be mad if it was a tru gaming machine, which small screens are not good for but...

IMHO If you want a small Pc go for Dell or something like that...

If you want a gaming machine that's reliable and can hand;e the latest Kit, get a gaming notebook...just don't expect small to be a priority (",)

    Just my 2p...

I have a 12" Sentia. It's built on a Uniwill chassis, and at the time was a competitive price for the notebook (I could have gotten it a bit cheaper from ibuypower, but not by much). I would like to see an Alienware version of the Dell xps 1330 with an led screen and better graphics, possibly as a binary graphics solution like the Sony Z series.

Alienware can also be considered a high quality PC brand aside solely a gaming brand. So a high quality Ultraportable would also fall into their market niche

I'm just wondering.. why would Dell_ compete with itself? Dell_ isn't going to compete with their XPS line by offering an Alienware counterpart to all of them.

I wouldn't have to. It would be a good way to end the proliferation of Dell lines by folding the higher end models into the Alienware brand while pushing the low-to-mid spec models into the Studio line. Beefing up the graphics (and adding an on-the-fly switch) would make a more robust model that the 1330 that would make a nice solution for those of us that want a more portable machine, but also want better specs than Dell offers (and a model without the c***ware and bundled "extras" that pad out the price on Dell units without adding anything useful for the consumer).
