    Alienware slot load dvd player in dell studio 17?

    Will the alienware dvd player/writer fit in the dell studio 17? i think there both slot load...

    You might need a different ribbon cable to connect it to the system board. You'd have to pull it apart to see if it's the same.

    i have spare dvd writer from old alienware that im selling to someone with a dell studio. ive also got 2 4870, 4Gb ram and a core i7 820qm and the laptop case itself with the wuxga screen in spare parts.

    Well then you have nothing to lose. See if it works. It will really depend if the connection of the system board is the same or not.

    Can comfortably say yes it will, have just done the exact same thing with my studio 17 and m15x, no need for extra cables their different but both end up as sata. Taking the studio apart is a bugger though.

    You also need to swap out the adapter plates from the drives, i think it was just a small one on the side of the dell but a full wrap around on the m15x.
