I know its kind of random, but are there any tell tale signs of a non alienware laptop. I ask because i might buy one off ebay, or get one made by the CEO of dark smily systems. Obviously its safer to go with the dark smily CEO. Just curious if there are things i can notice easily from a real alienware and a fake from china..for example. Thanks

The only way I would buy something off Flea-bay for more than a hundred bucks is if I saw it in person first.

Way too easy to get ripped off.

Pictures aren't always worth a thousand words when it comes to e-bay. Recently somone saw a listing for a 17X that was actually a M17.

Just use caution and protect yourself if you're gonna drop a lot of cash there.

Yeah, the seller is actually in jersey and im in CT so im thinking of driving down there to check it out to make sure its legit. Cause getting ripped off is not an option. Hopefully i dont get shanked..and my kidneys are then sold on ebay

That would be a great idea. When you are checking it out go to control panel>classic view>system. Right there at the top of the window it should say, "Manufacturer: Alienware. Also, on the bottom of the laptop chassis, there is a high quality vinyl sticker that reads, "Alienware Corp (and the model)". The laptop should also come with a binder that contains the restore and driver discs which are covered with the A.W. logo.

is alibaba a really bad idea? here is one guy who contacted me after i put up a "WTB" type of thing for a m17x here is one link from a guy who contacted me. legit? Its easier to say no, mainly when the picture is a m15x not m17x

yeah..that site is a bit absurd thats the lowest Ive ever seen. SO thats the one i linked to put it at that end of the spectrum. That place i wouldn't buy from, but i might go buy from the guy in jersey and inspect it myself.

lol good catch, i wasn't going to buy from them anyway. But nice snag. I just tried that control panel-classic-system and no alienware manufacturer thing came up, and im using an old school alienware desktop(its the size of a small car)

Honestly though for the right price, I don't care about brand, only the components. A whitebook is a whitebook, etc.

Exactly. Whitebooks are all the same. So many manufacturers jumped on that model too its just pick and chose now.

You could always pay $100M for a M15x, lol!

Look what someone is doing to this poor, poor scammer.

Alibaba is a scam they have been doing this for sometime. And because they are located in China no one can touch them with legal claims. Buyer beware on this guy big time.

The eletonics shop looks like a money laundering outfit. They scam the products for such a low price just to cover other illegal activities with the money. Make it too good to be true just to get in the cash fast. The biggest thing is that if you fall for giving them any info even if you do not intend to purchase, next thing you get in emails is the Nigerian 3 card monty scams. It is just a phishing site dont trust it at all.

They didnt even give their postal code (zip code) in their address.

I thought you could tell, because the second hand on the authentic Alienware has a smooth motion, and...

...oh, no, wait, that's authentic purebred German Shepards. I forget how to tell the authentic Alienwares.

Well thanks for telling me alibaba is a scam. One guy offered me one for 800. I said no cause he had the wrong picture and 800 is absurdly low. Thanks for the info and no i wouldnt buy from the electronic place, they were just an example of an imitator i was showing.
