So I was about to open my GF 18 and found this...

Didn't Alienware warranty let you open and change whatever you want on your machine? Or I'm missing something?...

I've never seen that kind of decal before on an Alienware or Dell system purchased directly from them. I have seen it on Dell and Alienware systems sold by a third party. Did she buy it directly from Dell/Alienware, or another source?

If Dell/Alienware is doing this now, the brand should be avoided. If so, this is not the Dell/Alienware that we once thought so highly of.

Well its used, but the previous owner showed us the Alienware ticket when he bough it. I will wait for any Alienware representative to give me a green light to open up the system.

That certainly is a new one on me - I hope Dell aren't trying to stop people opening their own machines with this crap.....

I think the screen shot below should answer your question. See the highlighted signature in @Alienware-L_Porras most recent post and the YouTube videos with instructions on working inside your machine. That sticker probably is not from Dell/Alienware. If there has been a change in policy, it has yet to be communicated.

I have an 17 R1 and an R2 and I've never seen that sticker.

Looks like the guy you bought it from added it, or he bought it from a third party seller (instead of AW) that added it.

    Hey all!

There hasn't been any changes to that part of the warranty. It does seem like a 3rd party added it for their own reasons. You're still allowed to go into your machine and replace all components you want as long as you don't damage anything. We may still need the original components when we do in-warranty diagnosis and replacements.

This is applicable to all DELL/Alienware systems purchased directly with us.
