In short, VR backpack concept (joint effort with AMD), a new Aurora (starting at US$800), Alpha 2.0 with GA compatibility, Area 51 with Broadwell-E (old news), and AW13 R2 now with OLED (old news, but we now know it's shipping in the coming weeks).

I think that aurora is UGLY!!!! I do like the SLI ability, but the x51 was a way better looking design.
I love the Alpha 2. The GPU options are really compelling and having the GA option is pretty sweet. I would consider selling my X51r3 for an Alpha just for portability sake while keeping my GA at home by my desk.
That backpack VR is pretty awesome too. By far one of the best looking, but AMD as their partner... risky choice. -

No news on any 18" model yet .... patiently waiting.

Same here but I don't think it's coming.
This is the last iteration of AW I'm willing to wait, till Nov if need be, but if they give us another MacBook wanna be, I am getting off this hype train once and for all. 10 years of loyalty flushed down the toilet.

Totally agreed with you. The next stop better be out of this world ...

Oh I actually like that Aurora case. But when it comes to desktops I rathe rbuild my own and have full control over which components are going to be used.

Kaby Lake jan 17. What will Dell put in <if> they create a new 18 this year?

Hoping for a mxm Pascal based 17.
Will receive a BGA 1070m I'm sure. I honestly don't mind a BGA 6900 series i7 if they use the remaining power to output a mxm 1080 and a 120Hz IPS panel. OLED would be the dream.
And a crippled BIOS of course.
Honestly, don't know what to think of AWs anymore. Q4 2017 is what I'm waiting for.

I am being to buy the 13 OLED but... why not also a refresh of the GPU?

No new mobile GPUs are out and because it's still the same laptop as before. All Alienware did was add an OLED option to it.

Wait a bit.. It will be refreshed with new GPUs by October/November probably..Rengsey R. H. Jr. likes this.

better off getting msi gt83 titan with sli gtx 1080 or the next gen clevo flagship (which is probably also going to have gtx 1080 sli option), don't think alienware cares about their 18" fans anymore there has been some very large petitions to get it back (including one by me on change.org) but to no availLast edited: Jul 18, 2016Mr. Fox and Rengsey R. They don't care. Even if they did, a disposable BGA 17 or 18 with a flash-protected BIOS and 240W AC adapter wouldn't be worth buying.
-
uh no
msi bios not write protected, svet can unlock for you for a small amount of money -
Yes, but MSI probably will put a BGA cpu + a single 330W psu to power 2x GTX 1080s.
-
-
Can Svet lock up for use of 2 or 3 X 330w in any Msi? I haven't seen this.

@Game7a1 - did they announce anything new with the Alpha Windows gaming console yet? I'm curious if they are still using the antique 860M BGA or if they have finally started using a more relevant GPU that is capable of using ordinary NVIDIA reference drivers.
If they would put an MXM slot in that little guy I would buy one and drop a 4790K in it with one of my spare 980M cards and use my leftover 330W AC adapter to power it.
Edit: I discovered there is an R2 now. So, 6700K upgrade would be better than 4790K anyway... much cooler. Any MXM slot yet? Soldered 960 with only 4GB of vRAM is still not adequate.Last edited: Jul 17, 2016 -
The Alpha R2 still uses T processors (from i3-6100T to i7-6700T), and uses either a soldered R9 m470x or GTX 960. Interestingly, the GTX 960 is not the OEM version where it is a rebrand of the GTX 970m, but the actual GTX 960 in a mobile form factor. The R9 m470x is likely a replacement for the GTX 860m+ in the R1.
Also, the Alpha with GTX 960 is the only Alpha compatible with the Graphics Amp.
1 DDR4 RAM slot, 1 M.2 slot, no internal USB port, and everything else is the same. It does use a 180w PSU for the GTX 960 model, though. -
So, just one DDR4 RAM slot as well... bummer. With one stick it cannot even support dual channel memory configuration. I've been kind of waiting and hoping it might turn out to be more interesting than it was originally with product revisions and enhan. Fiddlesticks... I can't go for that... no can do.
But, thanks for the update. I appreciate it. +Rep for the info, bro. -

Yeah, I didn't. I really didn't expect much, just an MXM slot. It's too little to be totally amazing, but it would be kind of cool to have one with a 6700K and a 180W GTX 980 or a 980M as a TV connected console replacement... just as a novelty. A 330W AC adapter can be used and there are already threads where the Alpha CPU has been upgraded to desktop K series. It's nice that it is capable of being upgraded to a healthy CPU, but the weak GPU just isn't going to cut it for me.Last edited: Jul 18, 2016
