There are a lot of rumors flying around as to what the new Alienware laptop, featured on www.allpowerful.com, will look like. So far, we have two pictures of the new laptop:
for starters, here's an edited shot of a wallpaper provided by AW. Rob41 worked some photoshop magic with contrast and brightness, and here's the result.
![]()
also, we have this slightly edited screenshot from a new teaser released by AW, courtesy of Phinagle.
![]()
furthermore, i've been sent this pic by a trustworthy anonymous source:
now, what we can judge from these three pics regarding the appearance and specs of the new Alienware laptop? here's a list of facts or "probable assumptions" based on what we know so far from the pics and/or AW staff here, as well as from the website. I will continue to updated this list as we learn more.
Design
1) the new laptop will have 17" screen - the aspect ratio is as yet unkown, there are arguments for both 16:9 and 16:10.
2) the new laptop will feature a full keyboard, including a number pad on the right.
3) the touchpad will be slightly offset to the left, presumably aligning with the space bar.
4) the exterior design will reflect the styling of Alienware's Predator 2 desktop case - silver, AlienFX-illuminated gills in the front corners (see the first pic), and a smooth, Ripley-esque design for the rest of the notebook, including the lid.
5) as usual, an Alienhead (presumably illuminated by AlienFX) will be on the lid.
6) the new laptop will feature an all-black exterior (except for the silver gills).
Specs
1) the new laptop will run on Intel processors.
2) the new laptop will feature a Montevina-generation motherboard and DDR3 RAM.
3) a fingerprint reader will be located beneath the number pad.
4) the new laptop will support two GPUs, either two Nvidia chips in SLI, or two ATI chips in Crossfire. Specifically, Nvidia's GTX 260M or GTX 280M (thx Blacky) or ATI's HD4870 seem likely.
5) the new laptop will support quadcore CPUs.
6) the new laptop will support dual HDDs or SSDs.
7) the new laptop will support up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
8) the barebone will be made by Quanta, Dell's ODM partner (thx Phinagle), and possibly take design cues from the Dell XPS m1730 and AW m17x chassis.
9) the new laptop could feature an integrated subwoofer much like the m17x.
BIG UPDATE:
this wallpaper has arrived courtesy of Alienware. again, some photoshop work with brightness and contrast ensued.
(thx Phinagle)
Larven has provided a translation of the AW font text at the bottom.
the answers for the riddles are as follows:
1) 2+3+5+7=17. this indicates a 17" notebook in the works. (thx Swanky)
2) "Dualism". either an SLI/Xfire solution for the GPUs, or perhaps another attempt at BinaryGFX, one powerful GPU for gaming, and a smaller one for normal use.
3) "Plymouth GTX". a reference to Nvidia's naming scheme for GPUs, this pretty much confirms that we will see one of the two top Nvidia cards, either the GTX 260M or GTX 280M. (thx Phinagle)
4) "aluminium". the new laptop's chassis will be made of aluminium. (thx Phinagle)
5) this one's a bit tricky. "core" has been put forth as an explanation, which would indicated the use of Intel's Core i7 desktop CPUs, however, i don't think this is correct. (thx Rob41)
note that none if this is set in stone, theses are assumptions. if you have a better suggestions, feel free to post. also, if anyone can decipher what's displayed on the screen, that'd be cool.

isn't there another post like this?
And really, your speculated specs really aren't speculation. I really don't see alienware settling for anything less than what u describe. -
Sounds very similar in specs with the Clevo D900F or former D900C.
Anyway, I can tell you from Nvidia's inf files that Alienware/Arima has been working on a laptop with 260M/280M support.
I believe this is the laptop they are working on. -
the Clevo D900f features a desktop core i7 CPU and a single GPU - i don't think we'll be seeing a rebadge of this barebone. i'll add the tidbit about the 260m/280m series.
-
That could also be for the W840 DI/M17 which can support one 9800M card.
The new AW is expected to be a Quanta build like the M17x was and most Dell's are. -
Cool! The "specs" match the "speculations". Now I am really looking fwd to have a glance at the new design ... I sincerely hope they come up with a flawless design this time.
-
wow! it's like a big change that will affect the destiny of humanity. Good luck for your purchase to all you alienware fans!!Hope your fate is confirmed and this will be a rock solid laptop with no issues!

the best i could do with the photo i acquired:
As you can make out the screen, touchpad and quickbuttons.
I imagine as the timer draws closer to end we will see more emerge on this system.Attached Files:

That was a photoshop done by Quicklite where he added on his logitech keyboard. -
what he said.

it has been reposted to the web then:

i can't quite follow you... although Engadget has linked the 'shop-job as well.

I knew this would happen when Engadget posted that pic. -
guess what, I should photoshop the pic with iPhone-like touch screen instead of keyBD and come up with the best I can do ...
-
I didnt mean to start a pissing contest on my first day on the forum, all i did was post the best pic ive found of the notebook and tried to give it a little better lighting to see the bells and whistles, if this is an issue or if this is a members photo...ok then. im simply trying to add some insight to what ive found and seen on the web.
-
hey dude, dont be pissed off... take it on a lighter note
Appreciate your enthusiasm, but seeing the original pic and the modified pic, you should have been able to figure out that it is a fake one. Next time make sure of the authenticity of the info u post, or else dont worry, we are here to "correct" u!
Between, welcome to NBR forums ...! -
also except extremely overpriced components as always
-
Is there an Alienware forum member trolling the Mac forum or something?
Just wondering. -
Around here its hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic or sincere .
-
Cool,
It's kinda hard to tell. -
), it will be curious to see if Alienware has got the cooling solution in there right.
Of course, it'll be kinda hard to wait, but Alienware is Alienware ... -
i think the HD4870, either in GDDR3 or GDDR5 flavor, will be available, yeah.
-
Hey Comaskain,
IMO I think we can expect prices to start at about $2000. Of course, depending on the options you choose, the price can rise rather quickly.
Although 260's or 280's seems likely, we just can't say for sure so the 4870's could happen as well.
Dang you're quick whizzo! -
-
I hope the price of the new laptop with max cpu , gpu and ram is less than £2900.
-
The only thing I know for certain is I'm going to be very jealous of anyone who gets one of these new rigs!
-
I hope the back of the laptop doesnt look like it does in that breed 2 video still, because it looks really bad in the still, although I doubt thats how it will look, alienware is not one to let a laptop look plain and bad.
-
-
grrr... all these Sagers and Alienwares and GPUs / CPUs !!!!! I wish I were a rich man living in the America, switching my laptops every 6 months
.
Assuming we live in a "credit-crunched" era, I should not be blamedin wishing Alienware to offer a starting price of $1600 - $1800 (assuming you quoted $2000 for a fully configured machine before taxes / shipping, Rob).
-
-
hmmm... getting too much caught up in the excitation ... -
at the moment, Max config in M17( only screen GPU CPU and ram ) is around £ 3,057.85
so the new AW should more than M17 right ?.
Well i would say the new AW might go up to £3500 or more with max config. -
Man, I wish I was a rich man living in America!
I do well enough to support my family, in America, but I sure can't afford to get a new rig every 6 months.
Every couple of years is all I can manage without making the wife mad at me!
@Matrix, I just looked up the exchange rate online. Sorry, I don't know what other factors apply. -
Part of my dream, I hope i could get a job in America later in 2 or 3 years. -
After doing a little looking on the second photo, not knowing if this is posted somewhere else.......... but its a photo of "Breed" the alienware "mothership interface" for the "The Alienware history and culture". can we say "Marketing ploy?"
Link:
http://www.alienware.com/microsite/breed/breed.aspx?from=breed:breed&source=PRAD0095 -
or so and get immensly rich and .... you know, there are no boundaries for dream
-
the supply now comes from Dell's facilities in Poland.
on a side note, i've updated the first post with loads of new information and a new picture/infographic. -
Thanks for the update whizzo.

None of this is remarkable OP. What I'd be interested in is a new LED screen, and other measure to improve battery life. In addition, AW could do a lot more to improve the ease of upgradeability: They could improved the built-in camera (in fact, you should be able to upgrade that too), speakers and throw in the latest high-grade connections to round off this new laptop.
-
??????????
An LED isn't practical on a high end gaming laptop full of power hungry components with multiple GPU's and multiple fans etc. There would be very, very little gain in battery life in a rig like this.
In a thrifty general purpose laptop with integrated graphics with the use of a LED backlit screen, extended battery life is actually noticeable.
I find it very easy to upgrade the components on both my M9750 and my M17. Are there other notebooks that are easier to upgrade?
As far as "stuff" like cameras, speakers and connectors we won't know what the latest generation has till it's disclosed.
My M17 has HDMI and eSata ports right now. What are the latest high grade connections you would "expect"? USB 3.0?
Personally, I think it is remarkable and very exciting! IMHO -
whooo usb 3.0 , with nothing that can use it. whoooo because we REALLY need it
just be happy -
-
i know but i hear it all the time
we need usb 3.0
led screen
perfect keyboard
AlienFX
...... i7 as well because you REALLY need hat when gaming -
lol
-
o yea and the touch pad sucks for gaming
-
I'd pay extra money if I could get a laptop without a touch pad and the keyboard was moved closer to the edge.
-
I think we can expect to see most of the same Montys offered on the M17 but I'd like to see this new laptop offer the P9700 (2.8Ghz@25w), T9900(3.06Ghz @35w) and Q9100(2.26Ghz @45w) options.
-
In alienware, you pay ~$2,500.00 to get something that is almost twice as powerful than that aluminum apple.
Apple=multimedia for the norm
Alienware=just plain power -
I've configured alienware and other companies laptops at the same specs and alienware's just plain overpriced, albeit not as much as some other companies. I still think their laptops look the best though, haha.
Alienware's new "All Powerful" - what to expect
