I ordered my m17 recently and AW has been sending me emails to upgrade my warranty.

Now i've never had a gaming notebook before, so is the extra 2 or 3 year warranty a good purchase to make?

    Regards

It depends in many factors, for example if you are a hardware fanatic and you dont have fear to disassemble the laptop, you dont need the extra warranty, otherwise if you dont have enought knowledge about hardware stuff maybe you have to consider it.
Another thing to consider is how far is your nearest AW dealer, if you got problems you must to pay all shipping cost.
Think how long you want to use the laptop before selling it, I think that is the most important question :)

Enjoy your new system and welcome to the AW owners comunity ;)

I do know a bit about computers in particular but not much about notebooks.

Do you know if it possible to extend warranty at a later point?

    And thank you :).

yes you can. up to the date of purchase you can get additional warranty time.
i.e. if you purchased the unit 31 Dec 2008, you could then wait until 30 Dec 2009 to purchase another year or more.

Yep, thats what I'm gonna do in May. extend for one more year, and then probably decide whether the 3rd year is worth it or if I need a new one
