So I was considering buying from Dell Outlet, and was wondering whether it was worth it...
So, do they look good as new when bought from there? Or may there be dents/scratches?
What's the 'life expectancy' of one compared to a new alienware?
Are the refurbished laptops a lot cheaper than their brand new equivalent?

I got my M15x refurbished and it was in perfect condition. I don't know what internal parts were replaced or if any were. I do know that it had a brand new case when I got it. Dell outlet should say ether this laptop is scratch/dent or refurbished. They are cheaper as well, I paid 1700 for mine. I built the same one brand new price tag 2800 bucks. The "Life expectancy" can't help you their, I would assume it depends on what parts are new.

I got an M11x off outlet and it looked brand new. Some stuff on outlet was cancelled orders that never even go to customer. You also get a full year warranty so there is really nothing to worry about

Well the 1.5 GB option would have to be the GTX 460m which is not a bad option. 1GB Could be a GTX 260m, 5730, or 5850. 512MB Would be the GT 240m

bought a lappy ( another M17x R2, RBG screen, dual cards, ssd drive, 940xm, blu ray ) from outlet, it shipped fast ( since they had no production time ), it came in a flimsy crappy brown box that was too big for the system, which meant the machine had been slamming back and forth. It had a basic manual, and a cd. No cool black box, no hat, no leather manual. The system itself looked good, however it was missing a ton of software and its copy of windows was set to expire. I was told I had to buy a new copy of windows from Dell techs when I called to ask about it, and that I had 28 days to do so. I tried to update the drivers, and when I played a few games that I loaded, I got the blue screens of death or choppy/shaky video, it was apparent the second card was doing some very bad things.

The exterior of the computer was the black alum case with a few dings, and the keyboard was bulged on the left side and mis aligned. Other then that, not too bad, also no custom tag which sucks, and when I asked about it, I was told it was impossible to order one.

Also no command center, no alien sense, no aw wallpapers.

I tried my best to get it running again and back to usable, but I then figured, ya know what, screw it, I sent it back, said, I am not dealing with the crashes/issues with this. I didnt get that much of a discount, but I was excited because the machine had everything I wanted. the right video cards, the xm processor, the blu ray, ssd, rbg led screen.

It was just gonna be too much of a time investment to get it up to par.

I did have to reformat my M11x to be happy with it, hardware wise though everything was in good shape.

My M11x R2 was a refurb from the outlet and it has been great. Out of the box it worked fine.

My last Dell outlet purchase was a disaster. It's really hit or miss, the nice thing is that you still have the 21-day return period working in your favor in case anything goes wrong.

I bought an m17x r2 from dell outlet with a 920xm proc., RGB LEDs, and xfire 5870's. Haven't had much time to bench it yet, but so far it got 18,834 on 3dmark06, and 13s superpi 1M, everything at stock speeds.

If anything is not to your satisfaction once you open the box, they generally offer you a brand new replacement after some QQ over the phone.

Dell Outlet a few days ago had incredible deals, with 1300$ refurb M17X-R2's with crossfire and the best screen possible. That 20% coupon is dead, though, so it's not worth shopping there until the next coupon is up, probably in 1.5weeks (they've generally active for 2/4 weeks at a time, rinse+repeat).

I'm from UK and there are never any coupons :(
The idea of a replacement seems good if you're unhappy, hmmm.
    cheers for the input guys

The same thing happened to be. Windows was not activated nor did it even have any video drivers. It was a basic install only with some apps.

Anyway, the first one I received was bad, not just a couple of dings, but scratches on the front/top the laptop (it was refurbished, not S&D). I called and they did a quick exchange. The next one was virtually the same thing, except it was more on the plastic and a bit on the metal. I called once again and gave them pictures this time.

They couldn't believe what they saw so they setup another exchange. Right now its in EXG status for 6 days now. I just sent him an email this morning about the 18x and we will see how it goes. One can dream right...lol?

I just received 4/29 this m11x in the sig from the Out-Let. The case is perfect condition not a mark or finger print on it. But it did come with the Bluetooth card missing. And the Win 7 is a reinstall, not the same as when you receive a new black box one. So I got them to agree to send one NBD and I'll install it. ;) The unit is sweet since it OC'd to 175 mhz and the gpu Oc'd nicely too. :D very happy with this purchase from the Out-Let. The m17 had to be returned for a replacement which the upgraded and build a bran new one for the 1800.00 I spent at the time in the sig also.
