Sounds dramatic doesn't it but that is what I have been told from a rep ten minutes ago.

Quick background story, my order went in on 17th Septmber original date of delivery was 27th September , that was pushed back to 2nd October. I have now been told today that it will be 12th October as there is a shortage of all Alienware laptop hinges and no orders will be shipping.

Has anyone else found this issue on new orders or mid September onward orders ? or is this just my rep (actually a manager who told me he had an email from Production stating this) What they don't do though is tell you of the issues until the laptop actually goes into Production and then they hear back from the Production team of the delays.

This is such a pain for me as I sold my laptop on eBay on the confirmation of 2nd October delivery date - even though the online order status still say that they don't actually update delays until 1 day before delivery would be due.

On a side note the rep informed me that all Alienware laptops are made in either Belgium or Germany not China - I'm in the UK so hoping when they finally get things sorted shipping may be a little sooner being in Europe already.

I thought they were all made in Ireland and Miami?

My understanding is their peripherals come from Ireland and one of the main offices in is Miami but the actual component build takes place elsewhere. The majority of Dell laptops are in China but Alienware is not.

My M14x came from China. It seems that chassis and assembly is in China.

...Hinge shortage? That's... a new one.

Unless something has recently changed, Alienware laptops are assembled in China. This was shared with our community in a conference call with high-ranking Dell/Alienware managers less than a year ago. I would imagine that some of the chassis components may be manufactured by third party vendors in a variety of places. The ODM is Compal Electronics.

Strange, I ordered on 19th and still got shipped on 28th. Hopefully I won't be getting defective parts.

I don't understand. Then why is Alienware so expensive in China? 675M was costing 16000rmb, which is like 2.4k usd. They didn't even have 680M (august2012).

Different markets have different prices. US is very cheap for laptops cause there is no VAT.

Guys. You really should be asking for a supervisor if they are giving you an answer like that to confirm it. Once you do they will go and get the real answer. They tried to tell me there was a shortage as well whenever my system was delayed but after asking for a supervisor I found that the reality was that the order was stuck in limbo. I was a little more lucky. It was stuck in pre-production but the fix was to cancel the order and re-order it again which gave me the chance to change the specs to what I got now. I mean come on. Power adapter and hinge shortages?

P.S. - Also instead of asking for a supervisor there are many great Alienware agents here that may be able to assist on that front and find out what is really happening.

P.S.S. - This is our power adapter. It doesn't show backordered on the website.

That IS what a supervisor told me. they ran out of power cords and wont ship until 10-20. it has to be something both the 14's and 17's share because Estimated Ship Date for both is 10-26 if you buy now, a 18 would ship 10-18

i think you linked a different adapter, this is the one i came up with when i clicked on m14x:

    150-Watt 3-Prong AC Adapter with 6 ft Power Cord for Dell Alienware M14X/ M15x/ M17x/ M17x R3 / XPS L702X/ M2010 Laptops : Laptop Accessories | Dell

I've been having no end of problems, three cancelled orders so far all their problems - I have been trying to order an m18x since 17th September - currently on my 4th order bypassed all the agents as they all lie, and ordered purely online this time with a delivery date of 16th October - so will see - in the meantime they have charged my card for two laptops and tell me that I will get a refund on one in around 4 weeks time - I even threatened legal action and they simply ignore the mails. My advice stay clear of any Indian sales reps or customer support agents - they all lie and simply ignore you and put their out of office messages on.

I've ordered m17x r4 two days ago (4-th of October) and the estimated delivery date is: 30/10/2012.
26 days to make a notebook is ok? :)

Had another £2,200 taken from my account this morning by Dell for an order that was cancelled a week ago - currently in dispute with my bank over this order who have no idea how Dell took the money as the card they have on file was cancelled a week ago - have to now wait until Monday morning for the bank to speak to Visa as they have no idea how it happened. I am now £1500 overdrawn on my account, no laptops and seriously pissed off. Another look at the useless Dell support when I went on live chat this morning to talk about what happens when I receive this cancelled order on Monday do I refuse delivery or sign for it and when will I get a refund :

Deleted content of communication - see forum rules to avoid award of infraction points

So the status of an order cancelled over a week ago is that it will be delivered, nothing on their system showing a cancellation even though I have had emails three times saying it is cancelled, and to top it all off they took another 2 grand from my account today for this cancelled laptop. The agent on support I ask the status of the order cancellation and he asks me if I'd like to cancel the laptop order ? W T F is going on with DELL.

My friend just ordered a M14x a week ago and just got it three days back, precisely seven days after ordering. Apparently, they told him it'd take two weeks at the time, due to "China's Golden Week" as "nobody will be at the factory". Peculiar.

When/If you get the laptop make sure to take it then get an RMA with Dell before returning. Doing otherwise will cause a small mess beyond what you already. Get as many details together as needed to file a formal complaint if needed.

I went through this like 5+ years ago when I went to get my first laptop with Alienware (which I changed my mind prior to shipping) and found that it never got cancelled even though they told me it was. I had refused the package when it arrived and sent it back. Confirmed that the tracking showed that it was received and signed for by Alienware. Since I had used my credit card for the purchase I had to wait for them to credit back my card. They ran me around the ringer for 2 months before I finally filed a dispute (with all the information showing that it was supposed to be refunded and that they had my laptop back) and sent a letter to the Better Business Bureau with attachments faxed to them. I'm hoping you don't have to do the latter at all. In the end I did get the money back but if you already filed a dispute to the bank did they not credit the account back for the duration of the investigation?

P.S. - Either the dispute or the BBB complaint caused them to refund me a week later after getting the run around and bad excuses for 2 months. Since I did them both I don't know which caused it. Before filing the BBB complaint and the dispute I warned the agent that I would do such if a refund wasn't done promptly by the company and since the warning went unheeded I followed through with it.

My bank has advised me and one of the agents on live chat today (although they are clueless) to not sign for it. I'd rather file a dispute with my bank than trust Dell to refund me - Dell have to prove I received the product otherwise they can not charge for an item. I'm based in the UK if that makes a difference to your own situation. I have three emails saying the order has been cancelled from a Dell sales rep so a far as I'm concerned it's their property not mine, and will continue to dispute the order with my bank. The one I have on order currently I'm pretty close to cancelling too with this whole fiasco over the last three weeks I pray I'd never have to send anything back to them for tech support.

Ahh ok. Then go with what your bank says. Your rules may run different.
