Theres been reports on build quality - hinge issues and screws apparently just falling out.
Very noisy fans
BSODs seem to occur very frequently
Among a couple other things which need abit of refining -
Switching battery on/off when plugged in with a touch of a button not working
Switching between graphics whilst the pc is on (people are having to reboot so obv a problem with the function)
Is it worth getting an M11x with all these potential issues?
Ive had my asus laptop for 3 years and haven't had a single problem no BSODs or hardware failures or build issues - i even use the thing as a foot rest with the lid closed on my desk.
Same with my advent really, no internal failures or anything like that though i take abit more care and dont use it as a foot rest lol
cheers

Mine has be perfectly fine, not one issue apart from a slight 1 second of lag when playing crysis the other night on high while downloading torrents but that immediately went away and I was back in laptop heaven.
How does Crysis run on your Asus? -
Its still only a very small number of people. Only the people with problems will post it while all the happy people just disappear. The first 3 problems are things you potentially find across all laptop makers and models. The other 2 can be fixed with an update. Of course if you order and don't like it just return it.
-
I been very happy with mine. Been playing on it and surfing. Right now the most I have played has been Wow and warhammer 40k 2. It's been fun I run it with the CPU always oc and I oc the gpu a bit. I am very happy with my purchase. Just as it's been stated the issues you are seeing are the people that are having issues and all the ones that are happy are not being reported.
-
I'm on my second one, first one had a nasty fan rattle and sent it back, looks like the new one is perfect so far
-
Well I have had no issues with mine. I have the cpu OC with the gpu at stock. The build quality is excellent on mine. As others have said always remember that the people who are happy with their's don't post as often as the ones having issues.
-
Another happy M11x owner here.
-
Mine is perfect
-
You aren't going to see all the people that are happy with there m11x make posts saying so. You will only see those who have issues posting because they either want to find a fix for there issue or to warn others.
-
I would say wait a bit while they work out bugs, being early adopter these days (especially with Dell) doesn't seem to be the smart choice. I had to go through similar deal with Dell Zino HD when it was first released. On the other hand m11x was a sweet deal with coupons, so I can't complain too much.
-
I am completely happy with mine, my only issue is the ability to diable the battery. I put it through the paces all weekend and I love it, build quality is solid, no BSOD, no screen gap, no keyboard bleed through, its a keeper for me

As i said. The display is a no-go! -
Display isn't that bad. No worse than any other glare type display I've used. It could be a tad big brighter, but so far haven't found it objectionable.
Plus, can you link an English version of that article? Not many people here speak German, thanks. -
No its not worth it, if you get a broken system then your be on the phone for half the day sorting it out..
If I was you I'd wait it out till the build issues and software (fan oc) is sorted out -
-
I would say if you can, hold off until they update the BIOS to fix the bugs.
-
I can get the M11x now for £690 stock model with an su7300 an a £60 tactx mouse so will be saving £90 - count mouse as a freebie as i dont really need it
Offer isnt around for a long period of time though
Future bios options should fix the last 2 issues -
The OP's question is "Is it worth getting an M11x with all these potential issues?"
Stay on topic please. If you want to discuss the sony (or any other system) vs M11x there is a thread for that in ST. OT posts have been removed.
Thanks. -
It's simple, you can gauge the laptop's value by comparing price to hardware to quality to performance. All of which can be done on topic and without bringing another laptop into the discussion.
My consensus M11x (at $860) > any other $900+ laptops. -
LOL You are out of control Batboy...no offense but there was nothing OT about my post and nothing that deserved you changing the post. I really don't appreciate my posts being altered to better suit your personal agenda...if this is the way this forum operates feel free to ban me as there is no reason to participate in a forum where the mods alter a users post to suit their own opinions. I am actually rather offended by it. -
Dude! u can get issues with any model..
Plus u can return it anytime when u feel its not good...
thinking rationally..
if u get a laptop with this issue (mind u... chances to get such are verrry low, i mean out of all purchases u ll see the problematic 1s discussing here.. so proportion is verrry low) then u can send it back and wait
OR
You wait now..
either way you WAIT ..rite?
but in the 1st option u atleast get the laptop -
I have 7300/4GB/250GB unit and all is well so far. I even went to the extent of using burn-in software to test the unit out - first for a few hours and then overnight.
I think, it's worth it if you can get a good deal with EPP and/or coupons. -
You have a return period, so you can get one and if it doesn't meet your standards send it back. Seems low risk.
-
Just wanted to add I have yet to have a single issue with mine at all. It has been OC'd since I first started it up and it is completely problem free.
The fan only comes on when I game or if i'm doing a million things at once, even then it is quiet and smooth.
The edge to edge plastic is sealed everywhere; no dead pixels, no dust and no part of the screen sticking out.
Not a single BSOD or error at all as of yet.
No hinge problems at all, no sound or anything when opening or closing.
Done the graphics switch many times and never had to reboot or had it not work.
The build quality on this unit is phenomenal and it feels incredibly solid, easily the best built computer i've seen or had.
I cannot praise mine enough, built to perfection. -
Maybe this topic shud be renamed to "happy m11x owners"
or maybe add some poll -
Well, gonna throw in my hat, as I too have had no issues with mine at all, OC'd from day one, perfectly stable, couldn't be happier with the unit itself.
And, I must agree, it's the few with issues that are always the loudest on the forums, most of us that are happy simply roll right on by. I've learned not to judge a product simply by the few LOUD posts on a forum, regaurdless the product.
Fantastic build quality, awesome performance, even on battery for a machine this size, love it.
Although, you may have issues, no promises, just like any of us, but that's what the warranty is for, or even a refund in the first 21 days.
Would not hesitate if you wanted one due to the mentioned concerns -
I agree with all the happy owners!
-
I have even checked out the smaller issues like other colours bleeding when you change the keyboard backlight to white, mine doesn't have this preoblem and is completely white. It never gets more than warm to the touch and the battery life is definitely as advertised.
There will always be a minority built with issues, but if the rest are like mine they are a seriously well built machine. The good thing with Dell/AW (even though their customer service isn't praised) is if you have a serious problem with your machine they will replace it. -
I had a broken hinge after 3 days called dell that took an hour to get them to order a new screen to fix hinge guy came out here today replaced screen hinge is fixed!!! Now this new screen that they gave me has a dead pixel in it... Iv called dell to see what they can do for me waited an hour... they hung up called alienware been on the phone for about 50 mins... Then transferred me back to dell they lady picks up how can i help you she cant transferred me back to alienware... Iv been on hold for 20 mins...... What will happen next? I dont know do you know.... LOL what am i saying know what will happen... Ill get transferred back to dell they some non English speaking person will say Oh yea I see Oh Ok let me transfer you one moment!! So all in all iv been on the phone for about 4 hours....... Another thing i didnt put bluetooth module in my computer so they sent me a refurbished one and me not thinking they didnt send me a screw to properly secure the chip.. took me 30 mins to take the computer apart carefully.... GFG
-
No problems with mine and Modern Warfare 2 is running like buttah.
-
I don't understand the point of the OP question. The only way it really makes sense is if you ask "Does the M11x has design flaws?". As it has been stated many times before, any model laptop/desktop from any computer maker will have problems. You can spend $4000 on the new rig and have a chance of bad ram, bad hard drive, bad monitor, ect. It would appear that there are no design flaws discovered as of yet. Which is a good thing. Since "worth" is pretty much a purely subjective evaluation, the only person that can answer that question is the OP. However given the large amount of people who have no problems with their machines right now and given that the OP appears to be defining "worth" partially upon chance of hardware failure, I would say many people would say it is worth it for them.

By default, the M11x comes with a 1 year/onsite warranty. Unless my slightly creaky right hinge gives me problems, this laptop is built pretty nice.
I'm debating whether I should buy a squaretrade warranty. ATM with a coupon that expires today (up to 30% off at a max of $40 off), I can get 3 year coverage for $90 or 3 year with accidental for $155. -
No problems at all with mine.
-
Perhaps the OP may have worded is it worth the "risk" since if you are having problems, you would either replace or return it anyways
All of the problems so far appear to be immediate issues and not slow burns.
So far, zero problems with mine and the display is great for the price. Not sure why my fine beer making friends in Germany are so hard on the display, but I have compared to the Sony's and Asus, e M11x display rocks.
Only one that kicks it's butt IMO is the Dell WLED panel- nothing touches them, but they come at a $200 premium.
Need a bluetooth mouse.... -
I want to second the whole "Only those with problems post". Every single one of my posts was from the 2-3 weeks I was waiting for my M11X after ordering it. I was extremely active here. Now that I have it I almost never come here.
Mine is fine, very solid, no noisy hinge, no screen problems, no LED problems, no BSOD, no overheating, fan problems, etc. Thus, I don't post about it. -
ANY CALL CENTER. NAME and REP ID NUMBER. -
............yes
-
yea i asked if they could do that they said no i would have to ship mine back before and i now they keyboard is wrong color in places -
I got spooked after I ordered mine but held out hope everything would be fine.
When I got my m11x I was pleasantly surprised that mine was piture perfect just like the one in Harwareheavens review. Overclocks are stable, no hinge problems, no loose screws, no BSODs. My unit is as advertised. Battery life is in the 7hr range downloading all my games from D2D and steam while watching netflix. Also I found out for most older games ie gta3, gtaVC, deus ex, Rct3 you don even need to turn on the GT335m. Honestly this is a great little pc that I plan on using for a few years for wok and play.

Isn't it the key point in the first place?

Mines great... Screen is good, as good or better than my Sony Sr which I considered really really good. No BSOD, no creaks, quiet fan... Only thing I could find (and this is me being really picky) was about a 1mm greater gap on the right hand side vs. the left side between the screen/lid and the keyboard (kinds like the hinge was slightly misaligned), but it closes properly and you can't tell unless you look for it...
-
Mine seems flawless so far.
-
I'm probably sending mine back. I've had the screen replaced once (several dead pixels) and the new screen has dirt under it, plus the hinge is messed up. I was supposed to be contacted by a tech Monday and haven't heard anything yet. I can deal with a machine that needs repairs, but the support has fallen short.
-
This is making me nervous. Usually with new Dell laptops or anything from them, you get a whole new system, or the option of a repair if you want, if something is wrong in the first 21 days of ownership. Something seems odd here.
-
A friend got his a week ago and he is extremely happy. He does not seem to have any issues with the M11X.
-
Either the notebookcheck.com got a bad sample or you got a bad Sony SR (41/49?)....
According to various tests, the Sony SR 41/49 should be almost 100cd/m² brighter at max. brightness and have higher contrast.
Or maybe it is the glass infront of the M11x which is tricking you.
But it seems you all live in the darkness...cause seeing all those pics and vids, it is a complete mirror.
Anyways, i still rather see measured figures instead of subjective opinions (lol some of you want to even see it on the same level as the display of a MacbookPro..., which i have seen in RL myself comparing with other screens and it is on another level in terms of quality).
All these isuues. Is the M11x worth it?
