Im about to place my order next week for the new M17x laptop from Dell/Alienware so i wanted to try to find a laptop case that will accommodate its huge dimensions!!!

From previous experience i have found that standard laptop bags don’t provide enough protection, especially on airplanes when people decide to cram their oversized and overweight bag into an already full overhead compartment.
I thought maybe an aluminium bag would offer a little more protection but so far i have been unable to find one that isn’t either hugely expensive, too small or looks like a gun case!!

The closest i have found is this http://www.matias.ca/laptoparmor/la1417b/index.php it would be perfect but for the fact that the maximum laptop depth is 12” and the M17x is 12.65”.

Has anyone found something similar that will actually fit the M17x???? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I use the Alienware Orion messanger bag for my M17, and it works brilliantly. It definetely has room for the M17x in it. I don't know if they offer it with the M17x though, ask when you order it if you're phoning them.

EDIT: Wait, you're looking for a hard case I presume? Sorry, can't help you there.

HAHAHAH...looking like an agent wasn't my intention, i just don't want the screen on a 5500 euro laptop cracked like happened with my last laptop!!! Thanks again for your help!!!

Thats's a really nice case but the usable width is 12.5" while the M17x is 12.65".

It's lined with foam, I'm sure you could squeeze the .15 inch out of it.

Make sure there is place for the Power Supply.....or you will need to transport that seperately....

I usually keep my notebook charged and put the power brick in the checked luggage when I fly, but I know most ppl need more power than that.

Thanks for the link...they look kind of cool...but i think they will not fit the M17X...the dimensions they give on the dell website for the laptop depth are 12.65 inches which seem to be the problem for most of the hard cases i have encountered....including the link you gave (12.5 inches)!!! Anyway...thanks for the reply!! The Dell sales person i talked to said that they should be getting the AlienArmor cases on the Irish website within 3 weeks...but of course this was BEFORE i placed the order....so thanks everyone for your input on the matter!!!

My gun cases, luggage, carry on, and briefcase are all pelican and that's the only way I transport stuff. When you have something worth several thousand dollars can you put a price on how well it should be protected?

Plus with foam all the way around it, that extra .15 inch wouldn't be a problem I feel certain.

I have that case for my Alienware except that i have the polished aluminum version with the laser etched Alienware logo on it. If you do not want to draw attention to yourself do not buy it because i took mine into public and into my high school and every other person was eye balling it and asking whats in the case.

Like a true spy would be so conspicuous.
That's becoming a bit of a problem especially now with the new atypical design: After market accessories that don't keep up with the original product. I hate when that happens.
That's a vaild point. Sure AW wants to advertise, but if they're going to offer the case the least they could do is offer consumers a choice between one with the logo and a blank one.

After all, not everyone wants to publicize they're carrying an expensive laptop. I think they'd sell more cases that way.

Thanks for the info, turns out that they have a version of this case with a foam base that you can customize and it will accommodate the M17X...its the Peli 1495CC2 Case ( http://www.pro-cases.co.uk/acatalog/LaptopCases.html) ...so i think i will go with this!!!

The Alienware case does look nice...but as people have rightly stated the Alienware logo might as well say "please mug me i have a hugely expensive laptop!!!" Although im quite positive when i bring the Peli Case through customs in Riyadh i will be strip searched and ALL my luggage will be checked!!! But at least the laptop will be safe!!!!

Anyway...thanks to everyone for your input and helping me make my decision!!!!

You won't get cavity searched, don't worry. I never thought about the different interiors, but my opinion, you won't be disappointed. Plus I like their warranty. "You break it....We Replace it.... Forever
I have the 1510, made to TSA specs for carry on, and I have some of there big gun cases, I've shipped my guns all over the world (airlines, ups, and fedex). They have plenty of battle scars but contents were perfectly safe. The briefcase has a bit more of a 'tactical' look over the standard samsonite, but it's doesn't scream "I'm carrying an Alienware"... Their airtight, dust proof, and pretty much indestructible. Sorry dont mean to sound like a salesman for them, but I've just seen first hand their durability. Another good company that makes a case nearly identical is Hardigg Storm cases. Let me know how you like it if you get one.

LOL....the Pelican cases do have that "don't f-ck with me, I'm a gun-toting trigger happy dude ready to blow your head off!" look. That alone would keep anyone from trying to mug you.

I've always prefered Samsonite, luggage and carryons. I've travelled extensively around for the past 35 years, used practically every brand out there. Samsonites always endured the most punishing abuse heaped on it, protecting everything inside, from Kenyan pottery, Venetien glassware, Chinese woodcrafts, Austrian crystal, and of course all my laptops. I've had one clamshell hardcase suitcase I bought 20 years ago and I still use it. Got plenty of scars and must have over 500,000 miles on it, easily. And, the high-end Samsonite laptop cases have a taste of class to them. Something I could bring in a boardroom wearing a suit while still knowing my laptop is completely protected.
