So this isn't an official trade or WTB thread so I didn't post there but if I need to, let me know...

I have an m15x with specs in my sig and while I love the m15x, I REALLY want a m11x. Mostly for the portability and small size. I also want an SSD and atleast an I-line processor. Specifics just depend on what's available.

Would I be crazy to looking to trade my m15x for an m11x with the minimum specs stated above?

I normally play games like MMORPGs, no FPS shooter online or any of that but I do enjoy me some Everquest2, Rift, things of that sort. I definitely love Dragon Age as well. The rest of the stuff I do is mostly search the web and stream Hulu and PlayOn to my Xbox360.

Would a better idea be, live with the gigantisism of the m15x and pop an SSD in it or maybe wait for the newer m11x line to come out?

Just wanted to get some opinions....

As much as I love my m11x, I would suggest getting a SSD. the price's are coming down now. You should save up or get a coupon for the outlet nice price's. And still keep the m15x ;)
    Just a thought.

Hey there, I guess you could say I have had similar feelings for the M11X but I have never though of trading my M15X for it. In fact from what I can make of your specs, it would probably be a loss for you and a win for the other party unless of course you recieve the difference in cash. Anyway, just my 2c.

    Yes you are crazy...

No seriously, it's not a fair trade if no cash was included with the M11x.

Having originally had an M15x-R2 then traded up to an M17x-R2, and now owning both the R1 and R2 (long story), my advice would be to keep the M15x (its a fine rig), upgrade it over time, but take advantage of the Dell outlet, I am convinced on the M11x front that the best bang for the buck is to get an i5 refurb; if you get a dud then send it back, rinse repeat until satisfied. Someone on here actually got a new one this way.

On the SSD front, be prepared that there are about a dozen things you need to do differently to use one effectively. I would recommend the Momentus XT hybrid (for example); I think right now this gives you very good compromise without all the extra issues for half the price unless you enjoy tweaking (I do).

Awesome guys, thanks for the opinions. I'll definitely keep my m15x and upgrade it over time.

I saw the M11x was on sale on the EPP site last weekend for like $499 - I wanted one, too! And they're still only $599!

I want an M11X too...I'm gonna wait for the hinge fix first though because of the nightmare with my old Area-51 m15x that I don't wish to repeat. I think I'm gonna post my MSI GX640 for an even trade with a core i5 or i7 version.

Gotta agree with Villosa 100% here, you are definitely ready for the loony bin....

Even with cash you may be sadly disappointed going from an M15x to only an M11x, the quality performance and usability of an M11x are nothing compared to the M15x. I've owned quite a few AW's and the only way I would have an M11x would be if it was a portable addition to something like an M15x or M17x.

I imagine quite a lot of M11X owners will be headed your way then! Personally I think you'd be crazy to do a straight swap especially if your m15x is kitted out with a 5850/460 and an i7. I like the m11x but it's poor as a main machine or even a main gaming laptop. As the above user said it's a nice addition but it really struggles with more demanding games. Maybe if you want something to with a bit of extra battery power with to show off at school while word processing or something to play old games with on your break at work it would be okay.

I can say if I never owned an M15x or M17x and only used an M11x-R2 I would have been quite pleased despite the screen with the performance. Even now compared to my M17x-R2 the M11x-R2 holds itself well at native resolutions and the M11x-R1 isn't far behind. Let's face it, they are all Alienware's; they are pound-for-pound good gaming machines. The ultra-portability of the M11x has supplanted my M17x for use in work because it handles it all well and does it in a form factor that can't be beat!

ME too, i want a m11x so bad. I even got to the point of selling my R2, then getting a m11x + desktop rig. If alienware doesn't release a m18x soon i will do as mentioned.

i actually did what you said and i love it haha (use my desktop at home and laptop at school/vacations/work). i have 2 gtx460 N's and running 3 monitors (trying it out... can't sli at the same time without extra hardware or using Surround, so idk if i'll keep the 3 running). it's nice (especially when you want to troubleshoot one of your systems - you have an another so you can go online and search for information!

just a note I dont think anyone mentioned... if you plan on playing games, you may need the discs to install it (I say may as so many games can be directly downloaded from the publishers website).

The M11x dose not come with a dvd/blr drve, you need an external one. If you do make this trade, at least make sure you get some cash for a drive, or if he/she gives you one, great. Just a heads up man. I know a few people that got the M11x, and their pants when they saw it did not have a DVD/blr drive... 0_o

Thats pretty much what I was thinking..
But well I gave up, Alienware lose so much values that when you want to sell it you are just getting ripped of.. I paid over 2000$ for my M15x a little more than a year about and now it would be worth less than $1000..
So I'm gonna stick with my M15x for now, but in a few years when it'll be time for me to upgrade my computers, I will more than likely build my own gaming rig for ~$1500 (should be good enough) and I'll buy an actually portable laptop like a Vostro, or a m11x if I am still playing games!
Although the AW are well worth the price when you look at the aesthetic and at the build quality. Sadly it does not suit my needs very well, hence why I had to put down another few hundos and buy a Vostro!

You really dont even need a cd\dvd as long as you have access to any computer with a burner. Use imgburn and poweriso to create and mount iso files on the M11x.
I probably havent used my drive more than a few times since I archive all my discs into iso's. Faster (after the image is made) and dont have to worry about lost or scratched discs.

NICE! I didn't know that Noah, thanks. I knew Steam had a huge list of games, but not that you could do the CD Key thing. Awesome.
