Am I paying too much for a new AW?

    Hello all!

Brand new member to the board, and my first post! Hope a couple of you will help me out here ;) I have a pretty simple question. I have been out of the gaming community for years and years, and with the upcoming release of Rome: Total War 2 and several others, I decided to re-enter the market. I customized a brand new AW 17 inch laptop. I copy/pasted the specs from the review page after customizing it and will show them to you here. My question: Is $2,900 too much for this machine? I believe it is. I went to Ibuypower and several other gaming laptop companies and customized builds very similar to this and there were all almost an entire thousand dollars cheaper. What do you all think this kind of build should get dollar wise? I do plan on calling Dell and doing some very serious haggling, as I hope to get the price down to ~$2,300-2,400.

If theres any other information you need to know about the build, let me know and I will find out the information if I can.
Also wondering if, with this graphics card, will I be able to run any video games from my laptop onto my 40 inch TV? Like I said, I've been out of the gaming market for so long that I have a lot of catching up to do!

What are those "other gaming laptop companies"?
In my opinion Alienware is not just stands for power and performance but also it's unique style and build.
If performance and good value is the ONLY thing you're looking for, you may well consider a clevo-based machine....
If you like the super cool, flamboyant style and look of Alienwares then, make your choice :D

I think with the GTX780m, it can run all of the current games smoothly? Only some of the very demanding titles like crysis 3, metro last light, you may have to lower the settings from ultra to high to ensure silky smooth gameplay

Yes, way too much. Go use the Dell mystery coupon to get 10-30% off.

Should I haggle with a rep first, and get the price down to an acceptable level, and then use the mystery coupon? Will they accept a coupon like that after I've already persuaded them to lower the price a fair amount? I'm new to dell/AW products as I've been using macbooks for work/school for the last 6 years so I'm not familiar with if they bargain or not.

I Think all alienware systems are too expensive yet i still buy it.. I've also owned an MacBook Pro and i Got more for my money in the alienware :) if you Want to save money don't buy an alienware but if money Dosn't really matter buy alienware :)

Other options: buy an alienware on eBay sometimes you Can find unused or light used alienwares for a lot less Than new ones.
Or you Can Wait a bit and the Price Will drop :)

Yes, that's what I did. Haggle first, then mention that you have a coupon, since you can combine the two offers. Don't mention the coupon until you're done haggling though. They won't negotiate after they apply it.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice! Also, I signed up for the mystery coupon, and it says its only valid until the 31st. Does that mean I have until the 31st to apply it to the price, or until the 31st to kind of find out how much it is worth, then I can redeem it/apply it to the price whenever I decide to purchase the laptop (should be in the next week or so)? The wording is confusing below the coupon

Ouch. Will I be able to sign up for another mystery coupon, or is it a one time deal? I'm assuming the latter...
