Hello Engadget. Over half of the M15x's that have been shipped to us users on notebookreview.com have been overheating / having the case break / having the lights not work properly.
Obviously Alienware did not take the time to properly test this system. We want you guys to post a story linking readers to all of the problems that the M15x has been having. Even Chaz @ notebookreview was having problems with his M15x overheating during his testing. Other users have experienced cracks in their case simply from opening and closing the laptop. We want Alienware to respond to this and take action, and we were hoping that you could help us, because their constant problems with overheating on their 15" laptops (M5500, M5550, M15x) has gone on way too long, and we want to get this news out before anyone else makes the mistake of buying one of these laptops. Here are some links to problems.

You guys can choose to send it or a variation. I just want the news to get out before more people drop 3K on a notebook that doesn't even work properly.

i sent it over. good work.

Great work. This is a step in the right direction. Good job stone. I will also be sending them an e-mail.
-
Thank you everyone. Even though I don't own a M15x I feel as part of the community I should help after dealing with my problems. I think that this is an easy way for everyone to send something in to engadget. Just Copy + Paste

I'll do it and I don't own an alienware.
-
think you should get chaz's oppinion on mentioning his name. Other than that nice and simple, I like it!
-
Thanks Ioaniro, I'm hoping we can get this on engadget, that would be awesome.
-
I have sent them a message, hopefully they will publish it with the large volume coming in.
-
@Crystak - Thank you
-
what is Engadget's email?

Go there and send them one. -
Done. I urge everyone to send engadget something as well.

/done
I'm hoping to be a future owner, dont have one due to europe delay in getting parts so had to do it. I'm thinking of doing a simmilar quest if AW europe doesn't do something about that 2 month delay...
-
Thank you for the recent people who have sent an email. I figure that after Engadget gets this many emails about it they will post this up. We all know that if this goes up on Engadget things should be solved rather quickly.
-
Man I really hope these issues with your laptops are seen and fixed/remedied..its very disheartening to see so many having problems with their machines. I wanted to get a m15x when i heard about it in Nov 07, but I bought a sager/clevo instead and I love it! No problems. Hope all goes well guys!
-
i don't have one and i don't even plan on buying one...but i still sent them an email. people are spending good money on these things and they should get their money's worth.
-
You guys can copy + paste what I said if you don't want to take the time in writing your own. I'm trying to make this as easy as possible for everyone. Thanks Shin

www.loot-ninja.com should be posting this tomorrow. I have already contacted one of the owners of the site.

Its good to see a lot of members (alienware/ and others) becoming very pro-active with this issue, it is activity like this that creates the platform for change! Just sent my email as well... Good Job Stone on the work Done!

This is just wrong. No one has given AW any chance to rectify the problem and already everyone is trying to bring this public?
From posts on this forum and on the AW site, it is clear that they know something is wrong. Why are we not giving them a chance to fix things? Why is everyone trying to destroy their name?
Its a HIGH PERFORMANCE LAPTOP. Anything that pushes the boundaries has potential issues... cars, computers, whatever. I'm surprised no one considered that these problems were a possibility.
So no, I will not send engadget anything... for now. If it becomes CLEAR that they're not trying or are dragging their feet, THEN i'll send a letter. -
I'd love to read the headlines in a few days that would say "Alienware stocks drop..." that should get their attention. I was really wanting to buy the m17x too, but it seems that it will have similar problems since they use basically the same things in both notebooks. It might even melt since its using two GPUs.
My next plan of action is to bombard HP to allow 8800mGTX or 9800 capable motherboards in their HDX...
seriously thinking about sticking with sager....i'd rather not pay $5000+ and then have a cheap crackable case. -
I did own a problematic m9700 but that was settled. I am opting for black m15x SkullCap. But with all these problems, I suggest we should use "Digg" than just engadget. It's not that I don't trust engadget. But it takes something to make them write about Alienware. Alienware is like in the first page of most all PC magazines (i noticed now it's Voodoo but you get my point).
Like someone point out before, review is always good on product and forum is mostly bad. In this case, There are 2 reviews I stumbled upon and never mention any kind of these problems. He clearly got a point. Now if you guys could send this post to engadget...
Now forum + digg, that are 2 - 1. See I know there are tons of you like me, who want to own a black m15x SkullCap with the promised 200 points quality control. Please make these happen guys please. I thank you guys a bunch in advance. -
Do you really think that they didn't see these overheating errors when they were supposedly doing the 200 point tests? I mean come on... -
I agree, however I think the buyer should be informed of this issues prior to investing money. If an issue is known you should know it before buying. Same goes for my case, AW europe knows (and knew sine at least 2-3 weeks ago) that they cannot build and ship any system prior to early april even if they launched the product on 4th of February. If you go on the euro site it still puts an estimated build and ship date of 25-28 days with no mention whatsoever about backordered chasis+LCD, battery, power adaptor. These things should be known to the public before they make a decision. Same goes for anything that is advertised on a company website and recommended by 3rd party reviewers.

they know better than to release a high performance notebook before checking it thoroughly. If a notebook has the option for an 8800mGTX and a core2extreme it should be able to handle them without any problems. Especially since people are paying far more than usual for the brand. Nothing is pushing the boundaries....its supposed to be able to do that. When i spend a lot of money like this i want a complete piece of mind...don't even want to think about problems. And i'm pretty sure they have some people checking out websites like NBR and stuff. Obviously if they're not taking a huge hit to their revenue, they're not gonna do anything. I mean i have an alienware (see sig) and am extremely happy with it, so i'm not trying to smudge their name but they need to at least give customers some thought. -
@mr_fro2000,
If you had an Alienware before, you know how painful to deal with them. I have story of mine somewhere in this forum and notebookforums. Imagine 3 factory visit in 6 weeks? 2 of it was within 2 weeks. The moment I received my laptop, I called them because it wasn't repaired, and I have to print out the Fedex shipping label within 30 minutes upon receiving it. I waited 2 weeks for the 2nd visit and the 3rd visit is just 30 minutes away from the 2nd one? That is called lack of quality.
Crack on a new product? Lack of quality. If it was like Dell $699, no one would bother to do this. So yes it's fair enough. -

To everyone who has had problems w/ AW before, I can understand the frustration. This is my 1st, so other than reading what others have posted, I have no knowledge in dealing w/ AW CS.
That being said, many posts all over the internet are users crying/whining. Therefore, I just don't put a lot of stock in what some posters say. For example, there was that guy who was bitc*ing and moaning about the side lighting. Honestly I don't care to listen to someone like that.
If you've had 3 laptops overheat with no resolution, thats no good. If you've had to return your laptop numerous times only to have the problems unsolved, thats also no good. Again, I understand why you'd be pissed off.
For me, I'd like to make up my own mind about how they treat me. If I don't see a resolution to this problem in the future, like I said, I'll send engadget a complaint myself.
But until then, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
On a side note, I'm thinking about opening her up and re-applying AS5 myself. If i can get a green light from AW to do this, maybe I won't have to deal w/ customer service at all... we'll see... -
