maybe you'll get lucky and the black chassis will come out of hibernation while your lappy is in for the repairs.

That´s why i said he shouldn't get nervous; the m15x will not make a letdown since, as Oceanus stated, the new bios did improve the m15x and the hinge burst isn't a "open the box problem"(atm at least). So the first month or more, will make him doubt of most statements on this forum (no lemon factor).

Also, you forget he knows there are problems with the the m15x, so if the problem happens, he already know he isn't alone.

So there will be enjoyment at the first month at least, and if he is lucky, may enjoy the m15x for a long time (there is no proof that all are affected by the burst).

    @ Black chassis m15x
Doubt hardly there will be another m15x chassis. Simple put, if the hinge is a design flaw, a black chassis would need a new design, which means: new model.

Of course, i trust that AW is a decent company and won´t simple paint black something that is suspected to have a flaw.

    @Other info.
Seems, as stated, Nvidia is using their "safety measures", some workers gonna be fired: www.foxbusiness.com/furl/story/markets/industries/technology/nvidia-plans-cut--jobs/

    @Less time online.
I just saw personally a m15x after visiting Rio, really beautiful looks and, relatively, light. I didn't feel too much the "cheap plastic feel", but it didn't looked solid as my workhorse (Averatec 5400). Not mentioning that the owner said i shouldn't buy one if i gonna stay in Brazil, since on taxes //mail work for repairing, etc. i would go mad.

Well, time for chatting is over ;)

This is true. If they were going to make an m15x black chassis now, they might as well revamp the 15.4" notebook and call it a new model. The new model would take into account all of the design flaws that the m15x had in the past and would ultimately "creatively destroy" (creative destruction) the current m15x.

And also, welcome back from Rio AzaInRex.

They're only allowed to creatively destroy the m15x if they replace all recent m15x purchases with the new model!

Hmm! Not a bad idea seeing as how I was a recent m15x purchaser myself!

Thx, but still got little time to be on

I think people have the right to dream, but montevina/black chassis i hardly doubt will land on the m15x. It is more probable that a new mZZx comes out.

alright I just got off the phone with one of the reps I called 1866ROSWELL. They asked me to send them pictures of he broken hinge. Now I have a question for everyone who sent in their m15x for repair.

I want to get a refund, so should I just ask for the refund? I know they will ask me to send the unit in, but I'm pretty sure the problem will reoccur. And I have five problems:

    1) USB port by HDMI port doesn't work sometimes, I have to move the plug to get it working
    2) Screen makes noise when I open or close the lid.
    3) Screen wobbles A LOT even when its on the table and someone walks by.
    4) The volume slider doesn't work 90% of the time.
    5) Plastic is raised above the Ethernet port, maybe because of heat

shouldn't that be enough for a refund? before sending it in?

Also should I empty out my HDD? take personal stuff out before sending it in (for repairs) I know I will defiantly clean it, if I have to return it.

    thanks

Not too sure if those 5 problems will be enough to get you a refund but you will definitely want to backup your important data and put it on either an external hard drive or a flash drive before sending it in.

Not sure. But, you will have to give them a chance to try to repair it first. They won't give you a refund right off the bat. Talk to them first.

AW's best customer service they offer. it is only for the U.S. if you are from europe you can still use the service but you will have to pay for the call. some amount every minute so it can be a bit pricey. they are very good. if you need some help just give them a call.

ok I just received an email from the support department, and they sent me the FedEX prepaid label. I will be sending them my unit tomorrow. I have asked them to return the unit is perfect working condition, with all of the problems fixed. if the problems are not fixed or reappear, I will be looking for a refund.

The address that the unit is being shipped to is about 50km from where I live. I was under the impression that it would be sent to Miami or somewhere in the states.

    UPDATE:
ok I'm a pissed at Alienware. I started seeing these problems within months of receiving the laptop, but I held off sending the Unit in for repairs until I had some time off work, so I wouldn't need my laptop.
Well couple weeks ago I had some time off work, So I decided to call alienware and send in my unit for repairs. I called them and made sure that the laptop would be repaired within a week. They assured me that the repairs usually take a week and that it will be faster for me because it will be done locally. I said ok and received the shipment info and sent it in.

Week goes by, I asked them about my laptop, and they told me they had no idea on the update and that I should give them at least two business days for an answer.

I asked again after 2 days, hoping that it was repaired and on its way. They told me that they hadn't even started any work on it and that they're waiting for the panel. ***?

They should have told me that the parts were on back order so I could've kept my laptop until the parts arrived. They'll promise you antyhing. I mean they should have called the place where my laptop was to be repaired and made sure that the parts were there. This way I wouldn't miss deadlines at work and wouldn't loose pay.

(In case someone wondering, I work for a graphics designing and printing firm, and I do most of the retouching and designing (corporate identities and what not), So I need my laptop for work, because it can run these power demanding applications and soft wares that I use. I also get $percentage of the work I do, So right now I'm loosing money) This is why I'm pissed.

I told them if I do not receive my laptop within two days I would require a refund or call my CC company and get my money back from them Plus file a BBB report. I know this doesn't seem like a big deal (repair taking time) but I'm loosing money, and I doubt Alienware will compensate me for it.

Let us know if they give you a refund. I know if mine starts to crack thats the same avenue I will be going down. They just want to repair it until it is out of warranty so they don't have to fix it again and can even charge you to fix it.

At the very least, they should offer people who's hinges break an additional year warranty on the hinges breaking. That would give people more piece of mind.
