    Do you recognize this system?

I was reading about an older laptop in another thread and felt inspired to dig it out of the closet.

I'm thinking about replacing the screen and getting this thing operational again.

Yikes! That one need a little more work than the m3200 Im working on. Its a fun design and the parts are relatively cheap now. Best of luck!

Haha. It's not in the best of condition that's for sure. It's been through college and back. I got it in 2006 for school and it served me well for 4 years.

I'd like to upgrade the processor and the screen needs to be replaced. Anyone got any suggestions?

What cpu does it currently have. There are parts for most sentia models on ebay. Is it the m3450?

    LCD Front panel

I would grab this right away

cant find the actual screen  (buying one new is around $150)

    Good luck.

Good call on the LCD back panel replacement. I'll grab one immediately!

Currently it has a Core 2 Duo T7400 under the hood. It's more than adequate, but if I'm going to restore it to glory, I'd like to upgrade it as well.

Edit: I really just want to use this as an ultra-portable companion to my M15X.

I may be wrong, but I think that may be the best cpu for that machine. Actually, the T7600 (2.33GHz) might fit the same socket.

Greeat! Keep up updated on how it goes! :) with a t7400, you will have a very decent speed!
You should install linux on it so it runs faster! :D

    The T7800 won't fit?

I was thinking about dual booting linux and xp. I'm already dual booting Karmic and Win7 on my M15X.

Does anyone have information about the fan for this machine? It ran so loudly non-stop that I couldn't take it anywhere. I tried cleaning the fan to no avail.

Possibly This(linky Here) might help you out...

    *EDIT*

It looks like my m5500, except yours has a lot of scars on it. :p I now use it exclusively as a Linux machine and now that Steam is coming to Linux I might once again game with it just to try out Linux support. ;)

    Here's a pic I dug up :p

Well, this is an all but useless thread but I would like to point out that Leonard was using the Alienware m17x on "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS.

I hooked one of these babies up to my m11x. Apparently it conflicts with my built in webcam, but who cares? I'm not using the webcam while playing Space Quest. :)

    Thread revival...

I'm thinking about upgrading the 120 GB 5400rpm HDD to an Intel X25-V 40GB SSD, in my Sentia 3450.

What kind of performance increase would I receive? I'm turning this into the perfect ultra-portable companion to my M15X. Would I gain any noticeable increase in battery life?

Kind of cool that your 4 years old cpu is probably still good enough to play most games ^^ When I was looking for the most powerfull laptop the t7300 core2duo cpu was the strongest I could find (in oktober 2007), while your alienware already had a stronger version a year before xD

Personnaly, I regret that the current alienwares don't have those bat wings on the back of the screen, and the fact that the laptops are way bigger...but I guess thats the cpu and gpu manufactuers fault, for making their products to cause too much heat.

The battery life won't be very different. However, you will see a huge improvement in everyday tasks. It definitely is a good investment.

If you can afford the SSD, more power to you. Not literally though. You'll get the faster performance for sure, but idk about the battery life. Ive been looking for a PATA SSD for the m3200 but theyre incredibly expensive.
