Ever since I installed Win7 and found out about the alienfusionservice.exe resource hog issue, I have been monitoring my resource monitor closely. Here is how I go about doing that: I boot up, open up my resource monitor (I have it pinned to the task bar) and then disable the alienfusion related stuff. Unitl this morning that was all I needed to do. Today however I noticed a new resource hog (by hog I mean using like 25% of resources under the CPU tab), STacSV64.exe ! I googled it and was taken to a discussion about this hog on HP's forum. I understand it has something to do with the audio drivers program.
Has anyone else had this problem? Why did it suddenly show up and how do I get rid of it?
Thanks!

Its one of the main components of the IDT Audio driver as you most likely read over at the other forum. You can try uninstalling the driver and going with the default Win7 HD Audio driver. Might be a bit better, might not.
Are you running the current W7 driver released for the M17x? I don't have the version# handy but recall an update a couple of weeks back. -

What would you suggest? -
Could try the new driver and if no change just roll back. Here is the info on the current driver:
IDT 92HD73C1 Audio Chipset
v6.10.0.6233 A02, Last Updated: 09/22/2009

Not sure if this will resolve your issue under W7 or not...
Another alternative would be to disable STACSV64.exe so it doesn't launch at startup. When running benchmarks I typically will disable all startup items with the exception of the NVCPL. Sometimes I forget to re-enable the STACSV64.exe app. No apparent side effects from not having it launch @ startup. Just a thought. -

I will try that and thank you very much for your help BatBoy!

No problem. Be sure to post back if it works (or not). Hopefully it does. Seeing something hog resources is always disturbing.

I actually prefer the standard drivers Windows 7 installs for the card.
Another resource hog!
