So I'm playing eq2, and this happens to me every now and then. Any clue what could be causing this? I thought it might have been over heating but the notebook doesn't feel to hot and the fans aren't roaring.

    Capture.JPG

you can see the white static on the screen (sorry this is the best pic I could get and I had to screenshot of a video to get it). Then when I exit EQ2, the screen looks like it has dead pixels. If you change the screen color it will do the static thing again and then the dead looking pixels will stop in different spots.

its very odd lol. I have to do a shut down and reboot to fix it. Just restarting windows doesn't fix it lol.

    Any clue?

Looks like some artifacting from a dying GPU.

I used to get this when I OC'd my old 8600M GT. Basically, I disabled powermizer and overclocked the card, but whenever it was accidentally unplugged, I'd get colorful scramblies like that. If you're OCing, go back to factory clocks. If not, try new drivers. As Crylo said though, it could be a dying card.

Oh god don't tell me that lol. Is there anyway to tell or do I just have to wait till it fails? Will I have to wait till it fails to get a replacement?

I'm not OCing the graphic cards. I am OCing the cpu just a tad but not enough to fail or overheat.

I'm using the latest official NVIDIA drivers. I tried the driver which was suppose to fix the studdering but it seems to cause EQ2 to crash a good bit.

    What if you disable SLI?

Disable SLI and see if it still does it. If it does then it's the primary GPU, if it doesn't then it's the secondary card that is the issue. Something like this would be grounds for a replacement card. I would call Dell if I were you and do take steps to find out which cards are the problem. After you have worked that out they will send a new card out to a tech and he will come and replace it for you and send the defective one back. Those artifacts are not normal even for an OC'ed GPU. When you start seeing things like that, there is a problem.

I already have SLI disabled so this should narrow it down pretty quick lol. Having SLI enable would cause EQ2 to crash a good bit so I went ahead and disabled it. So all I have to do is call Dell and request a card? Does a tech have to come here to change it out? I could probably do it myself. I guess I could get this whinning fan fixed to while they are here lol.

Also, when I wake my computer up from the screen saver (I use a blank screen saver), it seems like it takes a good 5-10 secs to get my screen up to full brightness. Could that also be the gpu? I've just started noticing that this pass week.

I used to have that issues on my desktop GTX 260 but the card was brand new and had absolutely no issues. Even after a replacement it behaved the same way, very random, no pattern at all.

I think you may be right Crylo, sigh. Tonight I'm starting to get that "weird" gamma/coloring/contrast you get with a fail GPU. This is exactly what my my desktop started during before the graphics card failed.

I'm going to DL and install some different drivers just to make sure.

How much of a PITA is it to get dell to warranty a graphics card?
