Have you even used Vista? I'd suggest you try it out before avoiding it.

load what you like - just know that xp will no longer have support after a time.
vista is moving in whether you like it or not....
and yes it does hog 1G. that is why most systems sold nowadays comes standard with 2G or more....(i said most - not all :D)

I've said this before, time to say it again. There's always a negative list out there somewhere on just about anything ranging from shoes to cars to laptops to diapers. Unless you try it out and have problems with it, you should not avoid using it. I was like you at first, and did not want to migrate to Vista just because of a bunch of stuff people posted on forums like these. What I came to realize was that they were just people who either

a)were anal about every little aspect of their computer and wanted it to be as fast as friggin possible by getting rid of any and all features they do not need/want/use
    or

b)they had older computers that were supposedly "vista capable" or "vista ready" when in reality they weren't.

When I bought my laptop, it came with Vista. I used it for about a few hours and thought it was slow, until I did a clean install. It still felt a tad slow, and I followed Les's tweaks guide and ever since then I haven't once thought of going back to XP.

    have i = no
do i prefer xp over vista = at this moment yes
am i getting to like it = yes
    nice speech = yes....lol

i think the vast majority will have vista on the m17x as it is shipping with vista only options...thus i think your replies will be very limited.

Vista > XP. Vista efficiently uses the RAM and people mistake it as a memory hog.
I have 0 BSOD's with Vista for the past 1.5 years but I had 7 with XP. It's definitely more stable, more secure and pleasing to the eye. People who don't have a computer that's able to run Vista or can't adapt to the refreshing GUI are the majority of the people complaining.

it can be said it may be a preference too maskedformed...
just because a new car model is introduced does not mean one has to buy it or like.
in fact (as with vista as well) many buyers/users tend to like one over another for various reasons of which "personal choice" is one.

but as i said before as well - vista is becoming the OS mainframe for many pc's nowadays.

Wow! Refreshing GUI. You've got to be kidding me. I've had "window blinds" for my XPPro for three years now and the Vista GUI has nothing over that.

I was an early Beta tester of Vista and have used the latest version of it and Istill don't like it. OSX and previous versions have long had a lot of nice eye candy in their GUI and Compiz-Fusion for Linux is absolutley stellar! The good folks in Redmond are way behind the curve with a fancy GUI. The last ones on board!

It's a matter of preferance for the individual to decide what he or she likes best. As for me, I've gone three years without a BSOD using XP Pro. I really don't care if the Redmond clan continue to support it or not.

By the time Microsoft comes out with a truleygreat OS I'll have made the switch to Linux for good.

i booted from an Ubuntu live CD the other day and was rather impressed. the problem is, Linux basically is perfect for all user types except power users... which includes gamers. which includes me. so i'm sticking with vista, until either

    1) my m15x is old and obsolete and can't run games anymore (which would lead to a linux installation)

    2) i find some cheap old laptop/desktop to install linux on

but until then, i'm sticking with vista because i have to, basically. oh yeah, no BSOD's to date, and Vista doesn't look half bad imho. so i'm not that unhappy. :D

I believe that ppl doesnt like vista cause almost nobody likes sudden changes (like xp to vista) but its something that we all must accept at the end, cause if you see xp is starting to get obsolete, and it will be more and more over the time, so its better to start assimilating vista now and not later when we need to use it mandatory cause xp is useless.

actually this situation kinda reminds me when xp came out, a lot of ppl used to say that it sucked and stuff like that, but see at the end everyone got xp and same will happen with vista.

    just my thoughts

btw I still use xp ;)

Umm, some people "doesn't like Vista" because they don't see any benefit to using it. Some people don't like it because there is so much more useless crap bogging it down. XP has enough extra junk that I have no use for and Vista has much more junk.

I don't have a problem with spyware, I'm not concerned about getting a virus, and I don't have a spam problem. I don't use most of the services that come with XP let alone the huge quantities that come in Vista. I will get a different Microsoft OS when they make a stripped down version and let me decide what add-ons I want to install.

As I said in my post earlier, I was a beta tester for Vista.
I try different operating systems all the time and have a very open mind, but until Redmond puts out a better product I'll stick with what works. The only thing I don't have that Vista has is DX10 and I could care less about that.

I myself have never contacted Microsoft support. I've found solutions I've needed on the internet.

So....other than DX10, how is XP obsolete?
I promise you that as soon as MS comes out with an OS that compels me to switch, I will.

BTW, I also have a 72 Blazer. I don't know how something so obsolete could still go down the road.

    Rob :D
