Any love for a Custom AW Nameplate? (Poll)

    How do!

Little background to the poll i'm putting together here.

I recently sold my beloved m15x and purchased the new AW 13, to my suprise, Dell/AW do not supply the custom nameplate any more.
This was extremely disappointing as i loved the nameplate on the old machines.

    Anyway, enough of that.

I have recently acquired the use of a professional laser marking machine, so have been working on a little project to get a shiny new custom nameplate made for my shiny new machine.

    See original post: #2960

    *OFFICIAL* Alienware 13 R3 Owner's Lounge

After finding the right material & font etc.

I think the results of MK1 have been pretty good.
( I have marked the alienhead logo as a background, quite difficult to capture on the image, but looks great in person)

Dimensions: 75mm x 25mm - 0.5mm aluminum with Adhesive backing (Strong adhesive but come off with no marks to laptop - just take care to protect plate if reusing/relocating)

    For scale: AW 13 R3.

    So the question is this:

Do you want a custom nameplate for your machine?

I will need enough members to make this viable (25 to start but more the merrier), not only for time but for machine & material cost.

All UK members will be £12.
Which will include the custom nameplate, postage fee & packaging materials.

Feel free to ask any questions about the process or any queries you might have.

thanks for taking the time to read this and hope you like the nameplate, i sure do! ;)

    Cheers

    Rairch

    Edit

So, having already reached the required minimum members needed to get this small project off the ground, and with a lot of requests for shipping information & pricing.....

I thought it would be best to add in the below pricing:

    Custom Plate - £12

    UK Shipping - Free!

    EU Shipping - £3

    Worldwide Shipping - £4

The plates will be shipped in a card sleeve/ protector. Inside an air pocket padded envelope for additional protection.

(If for some reason your countries shipping comes to more than I have quoted above, I will pay the difference)

If PM'ing (starting a conversation) for a Custom Plate.

    Please give the following information:

Line 1: Machine Make & Model
Line 2: Preferred Name (Forum, Personal or anything you bloody well want!)
Line 3: Either Machine Spec or Service Tag / Express Code

All will have the Alienhead background unless requested to remove.

    Thanks again for the support!
Can't wait to get going with these for everyone! :)

    Cheers

    ***** Payment Detials *****

    Custom Plate + Shipping:

    UK - £12
    EU - £15
    Worldwide £16

    Paypal gift to [email protected]

Thanks again for the support for this little project! :)

You might want to post a "please vote" in the AW 17 R4 and AW 15 R3 threads, unfortunately the AW main page doesn't get the traffic that the 2015+ BGA forum does

Size is fixed for the AW 13, but there's potential to get new plates for the 15 & 17.

All plated to have 25mm height but width could go to 90mm max.

I'll look into this further, as new marking programs will have to be designed.

    What size were you thinking?

Was just thinking about having it the same width as the service tag. But either way what ever is easier for you.

You may want to put up a web-page with PayPal checkout for this too, as well as eBay listing offer "Custom Plate for your Alienware ..."
    Just a thought :)

I thought the same, 70 mm I think.
I just liked the slightly longer plate using the 75mm.

Can happily do the 70mm as the original program was designed for that :)

I am doing this solely for the great community we have here.

Wouldn't be worth doing on a single order basis, maybe in the future if I decide to purchase a machine..... Maybe.

Awesome, one question though if I may - is there room to add the service tag etc as my sticker (as shown in your photo) is barely legable anymore so it would be good to have this from a service prospective etc.

    Thanks,

    Now that's a good idea.
I was toying with adding this but thought it redundant due to the service sticker.

Never thought of that wearing away.

I could add it into the machine spec line or do away with the 'alien font' under the spec and add in the service tag and express code?

For us with upgradeable machines since the specs aren't really that static, I believe we can replace the specs with service tag and express code.

Alien font is awesome I wouldn't wanna lose that :D

I have to say the craftsmanship is incredible and very well done. As for the sticker wearing away, I'm guessing if a laptop is stationary most of the time you have nothing to fear but for those who take their laptop everywhere with them, this can happen

    Nice little update...
Have just noticed we have achieved the 25 votes to go ahead with getting the plates made!!! :)

Really good outcome this: 26 Votes to get them made, and 1 negative sod who thought it was a terrible idea!....Heh.

Thank you to all the voters to make this possible! :)

I will keep the poll open for the 7 day duration i set it at to see if there is any more interest from other members.

Also, I have just had a response from my supplier that the 75mm x 5mm plate is available but but due to the awkward small sizing it would cost pretty much the same as the 75mm x 25mm plates. Not sure if this is worth it to be honest. Would look great but was expecting the price to be much lower (down to the amount of cuts for the size)

I think for the 75mm x 25mm plate PLUS the 75mm x 5mm it would equate to £20 - If there is any interest for this, it's definitely a possibility.

Again, thank to everyone involved. I will get shipping prices for all by end of week! :)

I like the idea of putting the plate not on the bottom of the laptop, but on the top/back between the fan exhausts

What do you think of the tape's effect when exposed to that much heat? It doesn't seem to get too hot there when gaming

The area is 165mm x 30mm so plenty of room.
Plus the I/O cover is not directly in contact with the heatsinks....hmmm......

    Thank you very much!

Unfortunately the plates are single colour only.

I was hoping to find one with a darker alloy to match the AW case.

But I like the contrast of this so alls good.

The machine is a professional marking system, hence the hire cost, as they currently cost more than a user car to purchase!

But get to play with lasers! ;)

Will you make them for the 17 with GTX 1080? I'm interested in one with specs with shipping to Malta.
