I havnt been on the forums for a long time and was wondering if theres any new major updates that will help the M15x performance... Please let me know...

I am currently running X32 bios and I forgot which video card drivers, if someone can tell me how to check I would appreciate it.

you don't want to upgrade your BIOS.

they release x34 which was riddled with it's own brand of problems, though fixing some of the x9000's issues, and the x36, which was supposed to fix the stuff they messed up in x34, but didn't do the whole job...

x32 is still the 'best' bios for a non-x9000 m15x.

for video drivers, there have been more than a few to say that the 179.14 drivers give the best synthetic benchmarks. some have reported smoother gameplay in newer versions... all I know is that when I installed the latest 180.43 (? I think) drivers, My graphics system would crash. So I installed the 179.14 drivers and it's been working significantly better since.

    It's your call.

Hm, strange. I had good times with the 180.43 drivers. Never tried 179.14, myself yet. Dox's 180.44 drivers are working well. I intend on trying out he 180.48/180.60/180.70 drivers soon.

Haven't seen any updates for the M17X either recently. The 180.48 and the modded INF versions of 179.13 have worked best for me so far.

Dox' 180.43 is nice, 180.48 is apparently a gaming beast, 180.60 and .70 are the very newest. take your pick.

i've tried both, wasn't too impressed by .48, mainly because my 3dmark score dropped from 9.8k to 8.3k :O

beyond that, .48 greatly increases gaming performance (apparently).

and before i install it , is it true that its this simple :

    1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
    2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
    3. Install & reboot.

or you think i have to uninstall anything that sais nvidia in my uninstall programs list first before i install the new drivers?

    1) download and mod the new driver (as you said)
    2) uninstall the old driver from your control panel > programs
    3) run driver sweeper and CCleaner
    4) reboot
    5) run driver sweeper and CCleaner again
    6) install new driver
    7) reboot
    8) enjoy :D

No. Stay on the dedicated graphics (In other words, do not switch to the integrated graphics before you uninstall the drivers).

..and you can use just CCleaner to cleanup if you want.

no, you can't install/uninstall Nvidia drivers when using the IGP.

regarding CCleaner, no you can't, because driver sweeper is especially optimized to remove remnants of drivers, CCleaner is only for cleaning up the registry.

It'll still work fine if you only clean up with CCleaner. People just use driver sweeper to make sure every single remnant of the driver is off their notebook. =P

click the scale icon below my username/avatar (on the left side), choose "i approve", and then write "because you are the man :D" in the text window. and then hit "add to reputation". make sure to choose my post to test this ;)

doing this will add a few points to my rep counter, which in turn influences the number and the green boxes below my username. these two are influenced by helpful a user has been in the past (how many reps he's gotten), how many posts he has, as well as how long he has been member at NBR.

nope, the amount is your own rep power. thus, if i add to your rep, you get 12 rep points (because my rep power is 12, as indicated below my username). if you add to my rep, i'll get 1 rep point, because that's your rep power. you can rep a maximum if five people per day, and no one twice (per day).

registry, the cleaner is for stuff like cookies.

in the registry, select what you want to clean. me personally, i unselected the box for fonts, because i want to make sure the AW font doesn't get deleted ;)

i've got the AW font (used for the nameplate and the inscriptions) in Word 07 :D

no clue why, it was just there.

regarding what to choose, i chose everything except the fonts and the unused file endings, and i've yet to experience problems.

Apparently 180.70 is even better, but no factual evidence for 8800M GTX. Still worth testing out, if anyone is up for it. Finals draw near so I'll be busy for the next couple of weeks. Still on Dox's 180.44.

The high DPC latency does not mean that your computer is slowed down. It just means that the computer is not able to properly handle real time video/audio streams and/or real time data transfers--- interruptions or drop-outs may occur when you're doing any of these activities.

Keep X34 (or upgrade to X36). I would not recommend downgrading to X32 if you have the extreme processor since X34 and X36 resolves the downclocking issues associated with the extreme processors.

    Things to note about X36:
    - Fans may run a lot more often and at higher speeds.
    - There is a temperature reading bug (sensors report CPU temperatures at 80c when it really isn't.)
    - DPC Latency is a lot lower in X36, but at the cost of two points listed above.
