I am planning to upgrade from 8700 but AW price is stopping me, I am dead sure that aftermart it would be quite cheap. Is there any place, preferably online, where I can buy it for my m15x.

I do not need my warranty, anyways I am not getting any international warranty. So I does not care if it gets null & void.

Not on the m15x or gaming notebooks in general.

GPUs connect via MXM slots, and those aren't soldered. :)

I've been looking at this too,
You have to remeber that you need a heatsink to match the card.

Alienware told me that they supply the new heatsink with the 9800

    Has anyone already upgraded?
If yes what is the differnece between the old and new heatsink?

i've got two 8800m-gtx heatsinks, and would be willing to sell one if either of you is interested. both are in perfect working order.

send me a PM if you're interested.

    thanks for the offer whizzo,
Before I say yes or no... i think findvikas should have first refusal just to be polite.

also i'll have to find an 88 card.

    cheers,
    pete.

i daresay various Clevo resellers will be glad to sell you a 9800m-gts or even -gtx (now that would be an experiment :D).

shame. at any rate, pete-trojan asked, and the seller will only ship USA/Canada :)

mind you, that's a pretty nice OC you got there, vikas. just the GPU?

Yep just the GPU, CPU is fine for me.

shipping is not a problem, I have a global footprint :)

Well on the M17X the GPU/Fan/Heatsink are soldered are in one unit. Basicly the fan on top under it is the heatsink and gpu and heat spreader on the bottem. So please dont try to upgrade them out side of Alienware. On the M17X. The GPUs are not mounted to the motherboard. They are like desktops gpu that plug in.

So if you order two 9800gt for the M17X and you get two gpu and no fan. It best to ask questions before you do anything.

Most laptops fans are on the bottem then heatsink and gpu and a heat spreader on top.

it is no problem to upgrade the GPU on the m15x, trust me. very simple to "unblock" and remove it, and then reverse the procedure with the new GPU.

Meh, the GPU OC does create a very significant improvement; I still wich I could find a way to OC the CPU... Just a tiny little push. :) Any Ideas?

You dont need CPU OCed atleast for most of the games. It is better if you have any CPU intensive application... bruteforce applications for instance.

Would the clevo card even work in our m15x's. I would think that only alienware supplied 8800m's would work since the vbios between the two cards would be different

vbios can be upgraded, you can take the vbios of other ppl using 8800 with their m15x and import that using nvflash
